Dude, I thought this was another youtube series like the backrooms. Didn't even see the in game footage thing at the bottom until the end. THIS LOOKS SICK.
I have worries as much I have hope for this game. As a massive liminal space fan, the whole aesthetic of liminal space for me is that we are thrown into a world that just makes no sense. Things randomly exist without purpose. Our human brains still try to find patterns and meaning in these environment, but every attempt is doomed to fail. This tension of searching for meaning but finding nothing creates the unique surreal feeling of liminal space. This game seems to introduce puzzle-solving and scary monsters elements in liminal space. These elements have a strong purpose: puzzle-solving is like navigating through a maze, where the purpose is to exit the maze. In a chase sequence you have to escape from the monster to survive. These are concrete, meaningful activity that I don't think will necessarily fit the aethetics of liminal space. For me this is the same with every backrooms game where there's a monster chasing you. A monster can turn a surreal, melancholic environment into a generic horror game. I just don't want this game to be another generic horror game. Let it be *the liminal space* game I've waiting for for years.
How would you make a "true" liminal space game and be able to sell it then? Wouldn't it just be a glorified walking simulator with no objective that relies entirely on atmosphere and sound design? This is why I don't think a proper liminal space or "Backrooms" game is a profitable venture. You need to make something that's not going to have people play for five minutes and then refund out of boredom. Liminal spaces in and of themselves offer nothing besides atmosphere and feelings of nostalgia, this is simply not enough to make a game out of and why other things must be added to make it so.
@@Providence.. Just because it's not how games used to work, doesn't mean it can't work. It's just sad that there hasn't been one game for me that can truly capture the sense of meaninglessness in liminal space.
You know what I'd love? a liminal game where they don't mention monsters or entities at all before release. A game like "pools" says that there are no monsters or entities or anything like that. But imagine they didn't say that. That would be so extremely scary to play because you literally don't know what to expect. Every corner and every noise will be frightening.

I'm so spooked by "Static mesh I am supposed to run from or get jump scared with a cut to black" games. This seems to be heavily inspired by Bioshock, Portal, Amnesia, and FNAF. Like they're pointing and saying, "See! See! We can be quirky and old timey too."

I’m not lying when I say I’ve been tracking this game down like crazy. I have never been more excited for a game. Usually Liminal games are just the Poolrooms, or a hot take on my end, like Fancy’s Backrooms game. All kinda cool in a way, but always super barebones and without detail or integrity. Farming the Backrooms cash cow. And with the purpose of being goofy. Subliminal looks perfect. A mix of beautiful graphics and amazing liminal spaces. I have never. Ever. Seen a game done this well. I’ll be counting down the minutes until this trailer drops. I have never been more excited for a game this awesome.
YESSSS! Its like the Backrooms is always portrayed with the same boring yellow walls and entities but this looks INCREDIBLE. Probably going to be one of my favorite liminal games right up there with “Pools” and “Found Footage” games that took the liminal aspect seriously rather than just the entities.
The height and voice pitch of the main character pushes me to think that they're a child, 7-9 years old maybe? We only (through Kane Pixel's eyes) see adults get trapped in subliminal places so it's fun to see something like this from a child's perspective. Looking forward to Subliminal!!
I've waited all year for this, I knew you guys wouldnt disappoint! Also so glad to hear Dr Glenn Pierce in there, superliminal is one of my favourite games of all time

I love these liminal space games that keep you just on the edge of horror. I hope you have a no-entities mode for that kind of experience. This looks amazing!
Many people complain that the game is not going to come out or that they are renders but they only say that because they don't know how to wait and also the game obviously took a while because it is a very realistic game and also only one person makes it, you know I agree with you that it is a good job

I'm so glad that I found this channel again cuz I remember scrolling on shorts a year ago or two and seeing all the short visuals and I've got to say, I'm absolutely hyped. I truly love horror games, but I could never really find one that peaks my interest. This is definitely going on my Christmas list 🗣🗣🔥💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Sorry, I clicked because the thumbnail looked like Samus Aran stuck in a part of a space ship. Now I'm realizing it was actually a bunch of those slides that I was terrified of as a claustrophobic child. Trailer was cool though 👍
I really wish more of these didn't just have some stock horror monster in them. The entire point of *why* these locations were so unsettling to begin with is because they're EMPTY. DEVOID of all other life. They're a place in a transitional state. A place you aren't supposed to see. I think psychologically thats a lot more unsettling than a cheap jumpscare that sends you sprinting past these masterworks in nostalgic unease.
I’m do agree, but the trouble with making a game like that is keeping the players attention. I remember Markiplier playing a liminal game that toyed with this idea pretty well. You need something there to keep you on your toes without ever having something actually jump at you. This game has been in development for a while, so I’m hopeful that it’s executed well but J see where you’re coming from.
This looks amazing! I hope you make the monsters liminal as well as the spaces. The monsters shouldn’t just be generic monsters you’d see in other games, with sharp teeth and claws. They should be things you’d see in nightmares, like objects that come to life, or a tall shadowy shape that stays dark regardless of the surroundings. They should be unlike living creatures at all. The tree statue that moves is a good example. I think stuff like that should be more of a focus than typical monsters.
I do have one gripe with this and to be fair we won’t know how it handles until the game launches, but with realistic graphics the camera movement and character movement are so important. It’s important that it doesn’t feel clunky or slow. Watching the trailer kind of gave me that vibe, but I’m holding my breath for the games release
I think it's made by the same people and if not I hope they don't get sued because I checked out there Channel and they have been working on this game for a long while now and it looks really good and I want to play it lol

@@Providence.. Just because it's not how games used to work, doesn't mean it can't work. It's just sad that there hasn't been one game for me that can truly capture the sense of meaninglessness in liminal space.
I'm completely agree.
You know what I'd love? a liminal game where they don't mention monsters or entities at all before release. A game like "pools" says that there are no monsters or entities or anything like that. But imagine they didn't say that. That would be so extremely scary to play because you literally don't know what to expect. Every corner and every noise will be frightening.
dude the sound design in the water park of the water running off of the slides and fake trees was so perfect, that it had me smelling indoor pool chlorine. the graphics were so on point and all of it looks so polished. the way the thing just slams its self into the wall is amazing, it really looks like it has the weight to it. clean up on isle my pants
I have bad news for you, chlorine has no smell, unless it reacts with urine...

Literally looks like real life, phenomenal job y'all!! That last clip looks eerily similar to an actual jungle gym I've been to
Funnily, I really nerded out when you didn't show the release date but played sleigh bells to symbolize this December.
yes, it was pretty clever of them, i agree
Same
Subliminal, you could say.
I've been waiting for this since 2022, and it makes me proud to see how far the project has come. I'm really looking forward to the release of Subliminal, and I really appreciate the work behind it. Greetings from Ecuador, and thank you very much for this ❤
The in-game footage actually looks like a real found footage video. It's insane how the camera movement looks so real, I thought they were meant to be cutscenes at first!
I'm so spooked by "Static mesh I am supposed to run from or get jump scared with a cut to black" games. This seems to be heavily inspired by Bioshock, Portal, Amnesia, and FNAF. Like they're pointing and saying, "See! See! We can be quirky and old timey too."
Looks great, though I hope we can dial down the shaky cam a bit. Love the tree!
No because dialling down the shaky cam reveals the shitty looking monster.
"We will give to fear a form and yet none. A vague hydra, a lode monstrosity surging from the unfathomable, reminding them... who their gods are."
-Executor Ballas, who is in this game apparently
wild Warframe reference spotted
tbf i was thinking the VA sounded fairly ballas like EDIT: it is ballas that would explain it :D
I thought I recognized that voice
Never thought I’d find a Warframe reference here😮
When does Ballas say this? Is it about a particular Warframe?
the Christmas sound was a cool taunt
1:48 I appreciate the slight squeaking when your character goes down the slide. The sound design is really nice!
2:39 - This is some real -psychological- _phytological_ horror.
Are the entities plant based? Seriously asking. I've never this before
Or maybe even phycological horror what with all the dampness and humidity,

Sorry not Found Footage it’s called Backrooms Rec but Kane Pixel’s Backrooms liminal interpretation is amazing too.
Same...waiting every single day for new info about the game.
This is exactly what we've aimed for and the highest praise we could possibly ask for🙏🙏🙏 Thank you so incredibly much❤
@@OfficialSubliminal Don't let us down, please 🙏
The height and voice pitch of the main character pushes me to think that they're a child, 7-9 years old maybe? We only (through Kane Pixel's eyes) see adults get trapped in subliminal places so it's fun to see something like this from a child's perspective. Looking forward to Subliminal!!
love it when games hit you with the "in-game footage" flex. Gets me way more excited for their release 🎉
I've waited all year for this, I knew you guys wouldnt disappoint! Also so glad to hear Dr Glenn Pierce in there, superliminal is one of my favourite games of all time
Thats hard to believe how it is a gameplay footage!
I didn't expected to see such naturalistic camera movement outside of niche FPS shooters.
Moatly because a lot of people find in nauseating lol. I couldnt care less about wobble, personally. It is visually annoying when you are trying to see what you're doing though.
Could be VR
It's realistic but will give motion sickness
This actually looks crazy, its so realistic with the lighting and textures.
3:07 how on earth is this a video game this is the most realistic piece of art I've ever seen! I will literally upgrade my x box one to a better just to play this. Keep up the great work!
i dont think you can play this on xbox
3:15 where it's bland and stutters and lags. That's the real footage. That's what you'll get. Nothing else seen
Upgrade to a PC instead :p
please make an “explore” game mode where you dont have to worry about entity’s and just be able to explore the liminal spaces 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve been saying this too omg😭
There is going to be a game mode like that yes!
just play Complex found footage or Complex expedition if you just want to explore the liminal spaces
That’s what I’m saying! The devs can’t put THIS MUCH effort into the game environment to have us run through it panicking
Maybe there could still be puzzles to do and stuff so there's still something to do along with it yk
2:59 omg it's Garfield
garfield when no lasagna

I know a monster makes it more palatable for audiences, but the idea of an infinite void occupied only by blue cushioned scaffolding and yourself is far more haunting.
I love these liminal space games that keep you just on the edge of horror. I hope you have a no-entities mode for that kind of experience. This looks amazing!
I can already tell that they put a lot of effort into the trailer and game from the thumbnail you did an amazing job on this
Many people complain that the game is not going to come out or that they are renders but they only say that because they don't know how to wait and also the game obviously took a while because it is a very realistic game and also only one person makes it, you know I agree with you that it is a good job

WE'RE GETTING DELAYED 3 YEARS WITH THIS ONE🗣🔥🔥
Superliminal mentioned a water area at some point. So interesting to see it connected.
same voice actor at the start i beleive

This has been wish listed for months on stream great job!!!
Been following this game for awhile can't wait to see all the hard work that you guys put in
I do have one gripe with this and to be fair we won’t know how it handles until the game launches, but with realistic graphics the camera movement and character movement are so important. It’s important that it doesn’t feel clunky or slow. Watching the trailer kind of gave me that vibe, but I’m holding my breath for the games release
2:38 Oh that sent a chill down every inch of my spine.
That was the scariest part. The environment watching me like that? No thanks. Far more bone chilling than the creacher chasing me.
