15:40 NS 62D is an empty trash train that runs out of the facility in Savannah, Georgia and heads east in Macon toward its final destination of Cordele, GA on the Heart of Georgia Railroad, where there is a large yard of trains by the HOG. But on this day, NS 62D's engines have to uncouple from their train to run as light power up to the loop where it will enter Brosnan Yard and turn the locomotives around before continuing its journey to Cordele, now with NS SD60 #6700 leading LHF.
Maybe, but considering NS has close to 10,000 C40-9Ws in its system, a few such as 9766 where bound to get through unchecked. Just hope it gets its needed maintenance soon.
I was really surprised that sd60 #6700 didnt have rear ditch lights . I thought all NS units had front and rear ditch lights... lots of great action awesome video!
(NS) OK, which Dash-9 should we set aside next for our ongoing AC44C6M rebuild program? (C44-9W 9766 decides to imitate an ALCO C636.) (NS) Bingo. Take the 9766 to Juniata and park it there. We don't want any ALCO impersonators on this system.
mbmars01 Thanks. 9766 sure acted like it had an ALCO 244 or 251 under its long hood. You're not gonna see smoke like that coming from an ET44AC any time soon!
Virginia probably taxes NS so hard they have trouble funding the maintenance on their Locomotives, lol. Love the Virginia area, but hate the state government here.
"Trains (locos) with issues" means shoddy maintenance. Try to get every last inch before you put the unit in for maintenance. I guess NS believes that "preventive maintenance" is too expensive.
Sometimes, there is only so much you can do in terms of maintenance. Best service will in the juanita shops. Where it can get a proper upkeep. Otherwise, some shops aren't equipped for major service. Some are. Just depends on what needs done. Though, engine failure can be prevented with preventative maintenance. But it can't solve your normal wear and tear. Replacing the injectors is a major overhaul.
@@CSX4772 Replacing injectors is literally a few bolts, and an extracting tool. EMD designed these things to be easy to work on except obviously, for size. Injectors go in top center of the heads. A good crew in the shop could turn that around in a day.
Love your videos. Norfolk Southern wife. Your videos are the best quality I have ever seen. Would love to see a video of Linwood Yard Spencer NC. Hubby is engineer out of this yard. Says he is photographed and video taped all the time. Anyway amazing videos and quality !!!
Thank you! Unfortunately, I haven't yet made it to Spencer, but I've seen many trains from/to Linwood. It must be funny for the crews to see all those foamers around :) Thanks again; I'm glad you like the vids. Your husband can be soooo happy to have a wife who likes trains ;-)
Been a foamer since I was a tiny girl. Honestly I am more into trains than he is..... lol I have even been known to show up at crossing to take pics of him on his train. Most of his friends think it is cool. He says that when you have been a Railroader as long as he has that he no longer sees the big deal. Anyway great high quality videos.
Great video bud. And here I thought my railroad was the only one that had problems with its motive power. Sometimes it's a real battle out there to get a train across the road. Those one unit trains are something else. It's like the DTO, STO, and the Power Buearu gets together and rolls the dice and prays you can get it across the road without a f*#k up. Speaking of such things. I noticed NS#3649 was missing its spare F Type knuckle. Juniata Shops seems to be doing a nice job on their Road Slugs. Yeah the NS#9766 is trying to do its best impression of a Alco throttling up under load. There could be many things causing this, such as dirty air filters, dirty injectors, ect. I noticed that it did have a engine fire sometime in the pass with the burned off paint on the left side of the long hood......most likely caused by a broken fuel crossover line between the cylinder heads. Thank you for sharing. As always be safe out there. CSX#237377
Noticed the ditch lights on 3649 weren't flashing as he blew for the crossing.i love the big GE power but they don't seem quite as reliable as EMD units. Great video though!
Do you shoot your videos freehand? Because the amount of shake / sway is practically none. I recently got a new camera, do you have any tips for beginners like myself on reducing shake / sway? Especially when zoomed in?
Most of the footage is shot handheld. I couldn't change perspectives this quickly if the camcorder was mounted on a tripod. But it's really challenging, particularly the long shots. Make sure you have a camera/camcorder with optical and electronic image stabilizers. I also use software stabilizer algorithms in the production process. It's all a bit of an art it sometimes seems to me, but one gets used to it after a while and I'm typically happy with how it turns out.
mbmars01 I will keep that in mind. I’m going overnight at a big hotspot near where I live, for my 16th birthday, so I don’t want to mess up any shots. Thank you for the help!

When the wind farms started going up, they wanted to contract with me & my family to put those same ugly, gargantuan turbines on our land, to produce electricity that wouldn’t even be available to us? Nothing more than bad injectors on the 9700 series dash 9. Not a big deal and just needs shopped once it gets to a system shop. Until then it'll run rich and not combust all its fuel and blow some smoke.
Well I hear the "not a big deal" thing again and again. Carbon rich hot exhaust gas can ignite and cause a fire. I think this is a big deal and should be fixed. Apparently this engine had already had earlier issues as the paint tells. Black smoke isn't good for the environment either...
Don't get me started on the fuel hoses too - they can spring a tiny leak and create a fine mist of diesel in the engine compartment ... easy way to start a train-b-q! Still though, I'm waiting for the day that an ET44AC catches fire. XD
Lord have mercy! What were they thinking? Continued use of the diesel engine, with whatever the ailment might be just exasperates the problem. The diesel engine's ability to produce the exacting horsepower needed for spinning the generator/alternator electricity production to the traction wheels motors, was jeopardized substantially. I would believe, poor thought processes where engaged in this decision making.
