I just found your channel and I LOVE your content and philosophy. I’ve been in public pre-k -elementary education for 10 years as a speech-language pathologist, and, while I love my field, I am pursuing an elementary education classroom position at 39 years of age. I very much appreciate your approach to education and teaching…the realistic struggles, but also the joys and rewarding moments. We need more people going into education, with eyes wide open, and with passion and dedication. Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh my goodness your comment made my day! Thank you so much for your kind words. 🥰 We love our speech-language pathologists at our district - they do such amazing work. I’m sure you will do a fantastic job in the classroom with your skill set. I’ve been taking a break from filming to focus on my students, but I plan on getting more videos made soon! Thanks for your support and let me know how the job hunting goes. 💕

Dear Time-Crunched Teacher, I just wanted to thank you for your time in creating this video. I really loved the point you made about teaching being a team sport. Your emphasis on positivity also resonated--it made me think about the importance of actually smiling during the interview process. Furthermore, your student-centered lens is a great thing to keep in mind for all of the wild card questions that might emerge--a North Star of sorts. Thanks again for your warmth and sincere reckoning of what can feel like a high-stakes moment. PS: I was waiting for the importance of the follow up email!, and I promise promise PROMISE to keep my responses reasonably brief and succinct. Even about my own childhood and education and every little thing that led up to this moment. Really, I do... 🤣 Warm regards, An Admiring Fan of Your Channel

This was amazing. But you missed the whole safeguarding issue... which they are most likely going to ask first, or near first. This channel is amazing, thank you!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I actually looked up the term safeguarding because I wasn’t familiar with it used in this context. If I’m interpreting it correctly, it sounds like it’s similar to our SEL curriculum. Personally, this is more built into my classroom management plan, which I touched on briefly in my portfolio video. But you’re right, it’s fundamental to supporting children and building a positive classroom environment. I’m not sure if I’m interpreting the term correctly though, so feel free to offer some guidance as I’d love to learn more! Thanks again for your comment! 💕

@@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher no safeguarding is the staff standards/practices of keeping the children safe. Like no teacher should ever be alone with a student, no hugging, no secrets, report all behaviours/incidents to the safeguarding lead... like a plan to protect. They are HUGE on that here in the UK. Rightfully so!

Oh that makes sense! I could see that coming up in an interview in the states, but we also have specific laws and policies around that and have to get certified in trainings every year for child protection and reporting. It’s part of the on boarding process for each school and district to confirm that every employee understands and will follow the process and is usually reviewed at the beginning of each school year. But it sounds like that’s part of the actual interview process in the UK. I’d be curious to learn more how other countries and areas conduct their interviews as I’ve only taught in CA. Thanks for sharing your insight!

@@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher yes, we undergo training as well, the questions are to see how safe potential teachers think on their feet, how successfully can they problem solve to safeguarding standards. It is the major focus over here (kid safety).
