I already made one video about Damon & his selflessness some months ago but there are so many other moments that truly prove that he's selfless...
so in the end I thougth it's time to make a better video with more reasons. :D

You know what the truth is , Damon was always a selfless person, you remember to what extent he went to save Katherine. After becoming a vampire too he was really a good person. He just pretend he don't care. But at the end he is most caring person. Everybody just hurts him so much. He had always been this way. When it comes to his friends , his love , happiness of his friends {I mean friends of friend}, he could do whatever it takes to save them!!!!!! And most imp. to make them happy!

People forget that when Damon (and Elena) sacrificed themselves in order to kill the travelers, Damon saved Caroline’s mom before himself which is why he was stuck with Bonnie and Kai in the prison world

Of course he is selfless. I saw him from the beggining. He has the best intentions. He is the only vampire that respects his nature and can control himsel. he feeds, but doesnt need to kill. he only siwtc of is humanity once.
He makes everything for his friends, and even for his friend's friends. He does it for Stefan, he does it for elena, he doesnt bragg about it.
And he compelled elena do forget he said he loved her just to doesnt mess with her head or stefan's.

Okay every comment on this video is an argument about whether Damon is selfless or not. The thing about Damon is he never acts like anything then himself. He'll admit the horrible things he's done and they all way on him some of them he doesn't regret but when you look at what he puts himself through on a daily basis for his brother and the people he loves I can't blame him for snapping. It seems like every character loves making him the bad guy so he's just embraced it because why show the good if no one sees it anyway. He dragged his brother back after each blood lust he became a vampire so Stephen wouldn't be alone. He's always there and that is what makes him selfless

Him snapping and killing people is more reasonable to me after watching tvd S7. This guy had a lot on his plate. Even when he's human. From traumatic childhood, teenage-hood, augustine. He had nobody when when he's going through all that and the people he held on to was Stefan and Katherine (before he knows she's a selfish, manipulative bitch). And both of them let him down. So honestly, I kinda understand why he was this jerk asshole. Cause if it is me, I would have acted the same way. Snapping around and doesn't care about the world, selfish, because he has been given crap and shit throughout his whole life. In real life, those situation numb your feelings. At one point you will break, tired and come to a final resolution that nothing matters anymore. So you only have yourself because you need to survive through all that. Mentally and physically. But he is not completely lost. He had built a genuine relationship with Elena, Alaric, Liz, and Bonnie. He may be so irritated and annoyed with Matt, put him through twisted situations, but in some way he did care about him.
Both Stefan and Damon had let each down for many times. And yeah, I think people forget he chose to complete his transition as a vampire because of Stefan. That's like the most crucial point about his existence as a vampire.

1:31 this scene always made me cry when I watched it. Damon Salvatore was such an iconic character and they really wrote and explored all his best and worst traits so well. He always tried for elena and it was the most beautiful thing

Until Elena switched from being a vampire to being the sleeping beauty and that stupid siren messed him up...they kind of drwoned Damon on the last 2 season. It is a miracle he survived himself...
He’s a clear example that actions speak louder than words. He thought so poorly of himself and everyone around him kept telling him just how bad he was. Yet love changed him, love for his brother and for Elena. If he hadn’t loved them both so deeply, he would have never become the better version of himself. While other characters change too, in my eyes, he’s the one with the greatest transformation. He’’ll forever be one of the best characters ever written for tv. Ian portrayed him so flawlessly that it was easy to forget he wasn’t real. He was the first character from TVD that I loved and what kept me glued to the show. He sacrificed himself so many times yet he called himself selfish. Underneath it all, he was an unconventional hero. Stefan even called him the better man in the end but I honestly believe they were equally good and bad. They both risked their lives to save the ones they loved. They both brought a lot of pain and suffering onto innocent victims. They both went to hell and back for each other, that’s why the way the show ended was absolutely perfect. They were each other’s saving grace and found peace, together.
Damon is the unsung hero of TVD. He's amazing, my favourite character of all time.

I thought of it more as stefan was willing to respect her decisions and let her be her own person, even if it came with a little danger since he had no right to control her life
well him respecting her choice lead to her death and her becoming a vampire. Damon respects her choices too, just not the ones that will endanger her life! He respected her choice to be with Stefan even though he loved her, he stood by her no matter what, unlike Stefan who acted like a 5 year old when she chose Damon, acted like she was only supposed to he with him forever, like choosing damon meant something was wrong with her and she needed fixed! She loved Stefan, nobody ever denied that but she fell in love with Damon too, she didn't plan on it and she didn't want it but it happened and she shouldn't have to apologize for being in love and happy. She might've loved Stefan but she loved Damon 100000x more.

Of course he is selfless. I saw it from the start. I saw his intentions. I saw his behavior. I saw his inner character. He tried so hard to manipulate everyone including himself into thinking he was selfish, but his actions beg to differ. He’s not selfish, he never was. And all these moments show it.
Let me explain something to you. Damon is something special. He had a lot on his plate. Even when he was human. He Had a traumatic childhood, traumatic teenage hood, and when he was an Augustine-dont even get me started. And he went through all of this with no one except the only people he held on to, which was Stefan and Katherine but they let him down. And at some point He just stopped caring about the world. And at some point that will numb your feelings. Because there will always be a point where you will break tired and come to a final closure that nothing matters anymore. He had to survive physically and mentally through this crucial period. But then he met Elena who looked like Katherine but was the complete opposite. He loved her but He obliterated it so his brother would be happy. Even when he told Elena how he felt he erased it so it wouldn’t effect Stefan or Elenas relationship. And don’t forget Stefan was the one that forced Damon to be a vampire when Damon didn’t want that at all, but you wanna know what Damon did.he completed the transformation so that Stefan wouldn’t be alone. But atleast he got his happy ending...he got the girl!
The moment I layed eyes on Damon, I knew right away he was hurt. I knew he would be irresponsible sometimes, I knew he would be bad. Damon is many things, but he isn't selfish. Stelena tho xD

He doesn't care about his friends hating him or loving him he wants them to be saved every time thats what make him selfless he don't try to be the hero but he always become at the end of day it is him who makes the things right by taking all the responsibility on himself he is a true brother and a beloved friend love him 😍😍❤️
This is why Damon is my favorite character. I love the fact that he doesn't try so hard to be good, like Stefan. I like that he's just himself. Good mixed with bad. I love the fact that even though he doesn't straight up play the "good guy" role like Stefan, it doesn't mean he doesn't know how to be one.
Stefan wasn't really bad. That was in the past, he has changed he's not that person anymore so he doesn't try to be good he is good.
I feel like Damon really does not believe he has good in himself,even when his actions often argue the opposite. His demeanour,his sarcasm and dark and self deprecating humour, all indicative to it. So much so that it tends to convince people of the same,and you know how people can tend to stick to first judgements.
At one point of time, when Stefan was just as cruel or even worse so in, and callous in his deeds, he had Lexi to reassure him, to give hope for a better living. We see Stefan struggle, but I feel like his struggle is always glorified to be that of Honourable, and Damon's good intentions are hidden away, and only the final product is shown. Damon is the villain. And Stefan is the struggling Hero. I do *not* think on Stefan's part it's a act he puts on, but that is the way it ultimately transcends. There's a depth to these characters, and you have to look beyond whats portrayed, Beyond WHEN is portrayed.

I love Damon. He has one of the best character developments. He is selfless, kind, he puts what Elena wants before himself. He respects her and protects her. I could tell from the first episode he was in that he was going to be Elenas true love and one of the best characters to the show. ❤️
You forgot two reaky inport selfles Damon scenes. When Cade said for Damon choose who he wants to save Stefan or Elena he choosed to kill himself and in the last episode he wanted to sacrfice himself so he could save everyone else. Damon was never selfish. He was always woried abouth others and saving them no metter what happends to him. And yeah I forgot that there is another time when Damon was sooo selfless. He said something like torture me,kill me but don't hurt Elena. I don't remember what exactly he said but I remember the part when he said,, Kill me for all I care, but don't hurt Elena". I think that Damon is the best character ever and I dom't think he deserves for people to think he is the bad guy bc actually he is the best one.

That torturing part about Damon is in s7 when his mom Lily takes Elenas coffin I believe and yeah I agree with what you said. I think him sacrificing himself for Stefan giving up his future with Elena was his most selfless act. He wasted years of his life and bad deeds, living in misery, and he finally has an epic love after being led on for centuries and decides to give it up to save Stefan and Elena.
Damon was the only one willing to do what everyone else was thinking. He knew who the good ones were and he went after the bad. Yes a lot of people died at his hand but it was for good freaking reasons and they were always to save Elena, bonnie, caraoline, Stefan, and the list goes on. It’s not about the quantity of the people who he has killed it’s about the quality of the people he saved by doing so....he got so much hate and was always called selfish when it’s really the opposite💞

Looking at the date this was released makes me happy, it was released shortly after the episode “We’ll Always Have Bourbon Street”. In this episode Stefan told damon “Selflessness isn’t one of your most obvious character traits” it made me so sad whenever Stefan doubted Damon. This video makes up for it :)
Damon is the golden boy, a boy whos been betrayed and hurt and hated his whole life, whoever he ever loved, loved stefen and when katherine and elena said that it will always be stefen, i could see the hurt inside him,he always thought that stefen was always the better brother but what he didnt know was that it was always him, he was the better brother (to me atleast he was) so theres one thing i never understood WHY DO SOME PPL HATE HIM?! When damon tells Rebekah to runn....That just showed how selfless he was i mean he risked his life for someone he didn't like , who threatened to kill the women he loves many times and he did it anyways. I just hate people who watch tvd and complain about damon being so selfish and evil but the truth is he wasn't . He risked everything for people he cared about .. i mean in the 60's decade dance when he learns that bonnie was going to die you could tell that he was worried about her , even though he "hated" her.

One of the most underrated points no one ever brings up is how selfless he is for others always putting every one else he loves above himself and he's whiling to do anything to help them, he spent his whole child hood protecting Stefan from their father, to doing anything to protect Katherine, then saving Stefan from his blood lust even tho he hated him for taking away his humanity, saving and protecting Elena and all her friends every change their was, mean while nobody trusted or loved him they kept hurting and tricking him he was always in so much pain. I realized after watching the first 2 seasons that Damon only acted out when he was really hurt or betrayed and couldn't take it and no one ever apologized to him for all the pain he went through he truly was the better brother theirs no debate that's also why I love klaus because when u think about it what has he done for his family or in pain that every one on TVD hadn't done
if you don't like damon you don't understand the show or haven't watched all of it. damon is a truly amazing person, and in the end he does everything for love. His love for Elena is stronger than bulletproof glass. he makes mistakes, but everyone does. it's how the world works. he will do anything to protect elena because he will always choose her. damon salvatore is the most complex, sexy, caring, loving, badass character on the show.

Damon wanted to trade places with Jenna on the altar, but he couldn't because he was bitten. Only Katherine would know this. Elena was only supposed to see Stefan make that offer at the altar because he's the one who likes to play hero. They would hand Damon another selfless moment in 3x1, and that moment would be a private one... for Elena herself.

Damon Salvatore may put up a cold exterior and pretend like he doesn't value anything in life but underneath, he has a heart of gold. He takes the punches for himself and looks out for everyone. He is the one who plays hero without asking or getting anything in return. He is the one who has fought for forgiveness, redemption, family, friendship and love, the most. He wasn't just handed everything on a silver platter, he earned it. Damon is the most selfless n beautiful character ever

Damon's so awesome, and yet, nobody appreciates what he does, and never gets credit for anything. True, he's no angel and did a lot of bad things, but he's also done good things, including being there for Elena when she needed him.

Damon first met Elena and ended up with her at the end. Elena was the first person to ask him what he wants and was Damon's only true friend ever since the beginning. Damon doesn't sees Katherine in Elena because Elena cared for Damon and Katherine didn't. Damon always says that he's the bad guy and that elena should pick Stefan over him cause his the good guy but Elena didn't. She told him that there is a part of him that is nice or that he has his humanity. Elena changed Damon to be a better vampire and to always think before making a decision and always care for his brother. I love how Damon and Elena was the endgame cause they changed each other in a good way or in a better way
The sad thing about Damon: he is not selfish, like he keeps on telling others. He is impulsive and does stupid (selfish looking) things out of it. Give him some time (or just a few seconds) and he realizes how dumb it was. I adore Damon since the very beginning of season 1 but I haven't noticed that before in such an intensity...

I get into so many arguments about how Damon is the most selfless character - because he gets no credit for the good he does and does it anyway. I love this video.
Another of my favourite selfless Damon moments is when he tells Stefan: "You are not allowed to feel my guilt. You are not responsible for my actions, I own them."
Damon professes in the same scene to still hate Stefan, but then gives him that gift, helping to ease Stefan's burden of guilt over turning his brother into a vampire.

I think you should also add that clip of the episode 12 season 2 where he finally pours his heart out he says that how miserable he is being a vampire and how badly he misses being a human again that was one of the few times when we see Damon breaking down most of the times he is emotionally strong and doesn't cry out easily but in that episode he showed us his vulnerability and his helplessness

In my opinion everyone is alive cause Bonnie keeps saving all their asses multiple times. Damon and Stefan have their moments but like what would they all do without Bonnie if we're being honest

I miss this Damon. Somewhat reckless, but very mature deep down and aware of it. The latest seasons he became a caricature of himself, and just accepts sheepishly whenever any off the "good" guys is a jerk to him. The show was good when it respected the grey moral of its characters, but now it is just sad to watch what it has become.

I know damon had some pretty great moments before rose death but I knew he was definitely one of the most selfless when she died. He couldve just killed her but he let her go peacefully in that memory. Loved that episode despite the sad ending. I will always love damon.

Damon's role is the real hero. He is not afraid of anyone he faces, but he will be weak by "elena's love". Damon struggles more to help those around him even though he's a little rougher (but behind that there are deep feelings of love), but all he does is do his best. Amazing character for Damon

Stefan often did not mention how selfless Damon was for him in there human years defending Stefan and Lily from Giuseppes rath knowing that by doing so he would receive abuse in all forms or almost all forms by there Father. As well as Damon wanting to quit the army due to wanting to get home to help Stefan and because he did not think he was on the right side. I am surprised Damon did not want anything to do with Stefan anymore period if I were Damon I would have broken things off with Stefan for good or mostly good at the point in 1864 were Damon asked Lexi to help Stefan.

I love this vid sfm! I HATE when ppl say he's selfish! Damon could've told Elena they met first when she said in the s3 finale maybe If they met first, he didn't. He had to watch as SE were together even though he loved her, he was still there even though she chose Stefan. I LOCE stefan but he was only selfless when Elena loved him, when she chose Damon he walked away, was a jerk, acted like a 5 year old just because she decided to be with Damon, Damon had to suffer watching SE together, he still stood by her anyway. That's selfless. PPL need to learn the definition or watch TVD again because in s4 when she turned into a vampire he still stood by her, respected her choice to be with Stefan, helped her. Um didnt they make a deal? When Elena chooses someone, the other one would walk away so they would be happy? And Stefan was hurt but he knew that he practically drove Elena to it' and understood why she went with damon. And Stefan couldn't do nothing when it was his fault she was a vampire. Damon kept blaming him and he wanted to fix it so he tried to.
And in season 5 he admitted he wanted damon to screw up but then stopped. And he supported damon and Elena together. When "elena" Kissed him in the motel, he said this is wrong you and damon just split. And he was selfless even when Elena didn't need him for example in season 7 when Elena was not there,he still saved damon? And then left cause he didn't want Caroline or Alaric and his kids get hurt. And in the end he sacrificed himself for damon and Elena. I'd say that was selfless
i love damon salvatore not just cause he's hawte but because he has the traits I want in a man. His badness and compassion,kind,strong and he's always there for most people. He always carried guilt, and he stayed strong. as much as he wanted to be human he stayed for everyone else. and that's why I love him
