Played bass with Billy in '78 at a drum clinic in Houston. All you can do is hang on for dear life. He asked for my number when it was over and I almost passed out. Never heard back. Lol! Will take it anyway.
...all you can do is HANG ON...wow. That says it all. Then, you know that when Billy came on the scene late 60s, early 70s, drummers F E A R E D him. Feared him. You can tell here that drummers still do.
I saw him in a tiny converted theater up in Bryan in the mid 80s. His drum set literally took up the entire stage! The band was crammed to the edges of the stage. It was awesome!!
@@axllow3914 yeah I know he died 76.I was in Tampa at Curtis hixon Hall crossing the University of Tampa that I was attending and he was to play with Jeff Beck and died in Miami a couple of days before.. They played a tribute to him. It was awesome.. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him... But yeah he wouldn't have been playing in 2011 read it wrong. I apologize..
Billy Cobham always sounded like he rolled a giant drumset down an endless flight of stairs, and it somehow caught a rhythm. Always appreciated the way he cracked that snare.
Thanks Yvon! We as kids used to jam this and Stratus. Seeing vids of Jeff Beck and others doing these two I always wondered what Mr Cobham thought. Now I know- Tasty indeed! Mr. Cobham played at my college in middle Seventies with Brecker Bros. I was school photographer so I got to meet him. What a soft spoken Giant he was then and now.
Poor legend Billy, trying to make his own Zappa Band. No one alive could play with him! This is so great, but couldve been better wit some Zappa members or of the ilk playing wit him!
The AMAZING Billy Cobham,on my first album Spectrum, 1977 for me ,Red Baron was my favorite song. I saw Mr. Cobham at the Blue Note Jazz club in New York City twice. What can I say. I love the man. all musicians on this video are amazing. Thank you all!!
My very first concert was to see Billy and John in M.O. open for ELP in Long Beach like 1974 and it was amazing to say the least. Then went on to catch Billy open for Weather Report at the SM Civic and when I was ushered with my deadly gorgeous date to where the mixing board was placed I was then taken to the management and offered 2nd row center seats !

This is the peak . The greatest music humans ever made with their hands.
Love that Billy is always bringing new musicians.
Billy's a living legend! He was like 69 here! Keep on keepin on!
Is it legal to have this much talent on one stage?
Billy is great! And the drums sound so perfect! So satisfying! High quality recording,
One of my favorite UA-cam videos!
Wah! I can't stop playing this. So much amazing stuff going on.

He was in Dreams with Breackers back then with many great musicians which all were basically from Berklee Boston with John Abercrombie on guitar
What a fantastic and talented band ... All. : )
Omar Hakim spotted!
Best drummer for ever 😍
By far the best drummer in the world
haha the jazz guitarist was like wtf is this swing beat at 7:01. Billy screwed his solo until the band came in, quick just play blues licks.
Cool! Good to see Omar Hakim at 0:31. Billy Cobham love his playing!

Merveilleux batteur, élégance et précision un modèle depuis plus de 40 ans pour moi.
technically, we call it steelpan. I have been playing a "C" pan for 20 years & I bought it in Trinidad.
Billy Cobham is net als Cesar Zuiderwijk een absolute werelddrummer! ,
For a youtube video the sound quality on this performance is astounding. And I say this wearing the kind of headphones that are unforgiving.
How many layers to this cake? Thank you so much Billy and band mates for this phenomenal composition and performance.
freaking awesome. keys/bass/guitars , you name it. bass solo reminded me of Stuart Hamm. cheers
Was wandering why this wasnt in my likes anymore and siddenly go on it and see i had a thumbs down on it. Goddamn pockets ! Ahah
