One of the world's most talented and underrated bass players has opened his own UA-cam channel. Still not a bad time to be alive!
In what world is Lee underrated? Anybody who knows anything about the '70s LA session scene know Lee played on EVERYTHING. Maybe you're right. He does deserve more love.
@@brendanmoir100 - It's a favorite saying on UA-cam "underrated", you'll find somebody commenting it on just about every music video....
MATEO RINCON NOT underrated. For us old ones, Lee is a legend and will always be. Played on most of the great albums of the last 50 years. Cheers.
@@Stringman1950 I know he's not underrated for people that know about him but that's the thing. The majority of people always talk about bass players like Flea, Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, just to name a few, but then you rarely see people talking about him or other bassists like Abraham Laboriel, John McVie or even Mike Porcaro. That's my point.
@@onazram1 I'm saying that because HE ACTUALLY IS
Best part ever happened in UA-cam s history,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Lee Sklar's home videos !!!!!!!!
in 1976 i went to NYC and was lucky enough to get in for SNL. my two buddies had to wait for me to come out, so they went to dinner. there was Leland Sklar eating alone. my friends approached him and he invited them to sit with him for dinner.as the musical entertainment for SNL was James Taylor, at some point Leland excused himself as he had to go play with JT. my friends said he was as nice and friendly as could be. it's always rewarding to meet a big star and find them to be just a normal person.
I was having a deep existential crisis before watching this, now its.. mellowing out. 10/10 cheaper than therapy
Same boat - high anxiety with me, but Lee always bring the blood pressure down and the worries melt away.
Me too. Exactly.
But just as habit forming.
Superb Ear Candy! Thanks and greetings from Australia!
Hello Leland, thank you from France for this Passion during all these years which has never left you and enchanted our lives with magnificent Moments of Basses! for all this sharing of knowledge and this very very great kindness! I love from France Leland !!!!! Good Days!!!!!!
"I need an assistant".....everybody puts their hand up!
Well, that guy sitting behind isn't exactly helping out much :)
@@TrainDriver186He's A&R the shades give it away. Silence is his best help.
I would love to be his bassistant!
I did!
Thank you for sharing your memories, it really is a treat hearing your stories! and hearing you play ,thanks.
Spectrum is my all time favourite jazz fusion album. The musicianship on that album is amazing. Thank you for making this video, Lee!
My Favorite too...
Wow, what a performance Leland!! Larry and I love you!!!!
Leland you are such a bass master - thank-you thank-you thank-you for laying down this classic.
I always end up back here to watch Mr. Sklar absolutely kill it! Such generosity.🙏
I Love You! Thank You! Thanks for your wonderful work, your music, your bassplaying!
Great your revisiting old tunes getting to practice and sharing with the world at the same time *..bravo
That's the "Doctor My Eyes" bass? That's one of the greatest bass tracks ever recorded! I was 18 years old in 1972 and just learning to play bass and I heard that song and immediately went "WOW who is that bass player?" I soon found out it was Leland Sklar, one of the greatest bass players of all time. So great to be able to watch these videos after a lifetime of being a fan.
It is.
Joe Palooka isn’t it just best . I’m a drummer n just love this guy
@@mikeault7 same here!! Sklar is an absolute legend!
Thank you very much sir it is a pleasure to watch you play you are a true master and a great Humanitarian staying with buddy outside while he was on acid may have saved his life thank you for all you do
I need to engineer the most protective mask design for a beard-owner and then send one to Leland. Something that will shield him from every germ imaginable and protect him at all costs because he's a national treasure.
I thought the beard would be protection in itself lol.
My favorite bass line of all time! Thank you! You've been in my ears in good times and bad, lifting me higher.
Mr. Sklar: thanks so much for posting these videos. I've only recently discovered this record, and as a guy pushing 60, it's an inspiration to pull my guitars back out of the closet; I kid you not. Great work, and thanks a million for the inspiration.
This tune has been my timeless model for bass playing and now having this performance available by the original artist is a gift that can't be thanked enough. Thank you Lee for all your loving spirit passed through all your work with Billy, James and so many others. You are great!
Love these videos Leland, Many thanks for posting them. I hope to get to play music with you one day. And I’m sure the hang will be great. Cheers
One of the greatest tracks of all time! Thank you 🙌🙌
Leland, you still have the hands and fingers of a 20 year old!! Thank You for doing these. It’s such a treat. You’re a legend, and a true “staple”. The magnitude of what you offer in your experience, ability and wisdom will (and rightfully should be) celebrated for generations to come. Cheers!
… cannot get enough of this … thx, simply great
Thanks for posting these. Your stories, humor and play-alongs make for great company while taking care of work-from-home business. Wishing you health and happiness as we ride out the storm. Bravo!
Thanks again Leland! It always amazes me how you make those licks look soooo easy. This was just exceptional!
An ultimate lesson in how to create and play in a big pocket! Bravo Lee!
Beautiful. Love to watch you play. You can see the experience flowing right into the strings. Thanks for the video.
YES that's the one! Thank you so much Leland for featuring and discussing the history of your custom carved bass. It fits you well and the sound is pure comfort food for the ears! My car is also a '97! And yes the world is such a beautiful place. Thanks again and Cheers!
God Bless you Leland!
Amazing Performance Leland !!! Thanks for showing how it's done !!!

Geez…I’m so enjoying the stories and the playing. Thank you so much Mr. Sklar!!
Such an enjoyable channel! You bring a whole lotta love and fun and talent in spades. Bravo.
When you play these earlier tunes, it must just transport right back to the exact place and time. What a trip! ✌🏼
Great song from a super album. Thanks for another wonderful trip back in time. Stay home...stay safe...save lives!
This track is ace...G7 C7...you're kidding me. One of the first and only bits of great music that I was introduced to and taught by the brilliant Rob Gibney..you are super.
Love it. Love the jazzy feel to it and how it grooves.
Rectal swab...what a joker! So glad you're back!
Back? He never left.
That guitar! A work of art. The peace sign takes me back to my favourite decade(s).
You are an Artiste.
I had to listen twice ... great smiles and memories here. Thank you so much for what you do!
Thank you so much, Leland. Thoroughly enjoyed the song and the reminiscing. Thank you for being here for us all. M.S. Athens, TN
What a compassionate guy and wonderfully lucid communicator - and a brilliant ubiquitous bass player. A priveledge to be able to watch these videos..cheers pal.
PS.. thanks for picking up that guy near Penrith all those years ago, l used to hitch hike to the Lake District in the 60's from Manchester..
QUITE a beautiful instrument, for sure. You are just such a bright spot in these days.
Thank you, thank you, so much.
Each note is just juicy - perfectly placed notes. Incredible! These videos are a goldmine of musical knowledge.
used to play this and spectrum over and over...i tried to make my bass sound like th album...great song
Thank you! This album changed my life. Watching and hearing your stories is a peak under the sheets. Love it!
Just sublime! Thank you. it is a magical switch from ordinary caring bloke to bass virtuoso..with no apparent effort at all..You fool me everytime!
Good lord. I have no idea how anyone could naysay what you are doing. Out of tune? Not a chance. Keep on keeping on, Leland. You're the best.
"I had no idea the tests were now rectal. I thought I was back at the airport." I'm not even a musician, and I love watching these videos!
That’s an epic playing, that music the defined a genre, proud i grew up listening to that 👍🏻
Dude that sent me back to my happy place !
Great playing sir! Thanks for sharing!
That was just WOW, 👏❤️🙏🏻🎸🎸 love it.
Great groove ... That Spectrum LP is just pure joy. Way to go, Lee👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for introducing me to Billy Cobham and Red Baron Lee. Wonderful song, laid back and silky smooth.
I wouldn't be changing those pick-ups out, not with that sound. Infectious track. I can't work properly when I have that playing. My daughter can't enjoy TV either (with the noise I make.) Thanks for taking us through it.
Feels like Lee is playing way back on the beat. Gives it such a sloooooow groove. Love it.
Awesome remember to old jazzrock times...Thanks for that.
Regards from Slovakia...👍😍🎸🍷🎼
Karol
One of my favorite songs from that album and of your playing in general. You are truly an inspiration!!
Leland, I appreciate your videos SO MUCH! Blessings to you for doing this heartfelt, selfless, and educational act.✌🙂
I did not know you had played on the most iconic Cobham tune ever! I loved your playing back in the day before I knew who you were, but as a drummer myself, well, other players pale next to the cob. Time to make ammends. Thanks for showing us this, that was amazing
These really help me keep my sanity! Thanks so much for everything you’ve done and do Lee!! Really love billy Cobham too, you are both very humble and awesome people!
Look forward to these now. Great stories and free lessons on everything! Not just music. Thank you
Yay!!! And that BBC show is fabulous. Thank you!
Tommy Bolin, man what a huge talent. The song 'Dreamer' is a tour de force of his chops IMHO. Tommy's and Mr. Sklar's amazing talent shaped my Cobham years and I didn't realize that until now. I bow down as I am not worthy.
Loving the music and wisdom from the grand wizard.....thank you sir for helping us deal with this situation. 🤘🏻👊🐶
Am grinning from ear to ear ... watching this .... music like it was supposed to be ! Stellar playing Lee ....
Thank you. I, like so many, are home instead of playing a gig. I never had the chance in all the years to enjoy such inspirational virtual mentorship.
Thanks for doing these. I'm enjoying the music, the history, and especially the compassionate and wise voice of reason.
Thanks for adding the Spectrum tracks! I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to get to watch you play along with songs that I’ve cherished for so long. You rock man!!
Thank you Leland. Just back from the hospital. This is the groove !
Lee, thank you so much for sharing your history. I have known for years of you with Phil but this virus event has given me new tunes to listen to and learn the drumming to.
Wow, that was delicious. There's a lot going on in that song, but there's still so much air in it. I'm definitely going to check out the Billy Cobham stuff. Your videos about Jeff got me listening to Toto yesterday, and I heard it with fresh ears. I had never really listened to his drumming before, but it was incredible. I'm learning so much from your videos, and I can't thank you enough.
Funny you mentioned looking out the window and seeing the hummingbirds. I've had a yellow-bellied sapsucker banging on the rain gutters all day, trying to attract a mate. It gets maddening after a while, but while you were playing, he stopped...and then started back up again when the song was over. I guess he was digging the tune too, lol. Stay well, and all the best to you and yours.
The Alrightest Guitarist if you search on UA-cam for Jeff Pocaro "Rosanna" drums only as example ....the drum tracks are soloed....pretty cool.

@@hardhitter0421 Thanks, that was awesome! There's so much subtlety I hadn't heard when I listened to the full track.
@@dwftube Thanks so much for the link. I love Rick Beato's "What Makes This Song Great" series, and this gave me one of those moments!
The Alrightest Guitarist The group on Spectrum is a Super Group lineup.
That was so super cool.thanks Lee.you are so vital in these times, makes my day so enjoyable
I knew how I felt watching and listening today, and for me your hummingbirds provided the conceptualization . You are a hummingbird helping to show that there is still beauty in our world. Thank you, Sir!
I could listen to this song forever, is so relaxing 😍
Thanks for this one, Leland! I always did this one together with my bassplayer, who sadly passed away about a year ago, during soundchecks. Thanks Leland! Take care!
Thanks for another great video Lee!! I look for to seeing these each day! Thanks again!!
if I could i would give at least 3 thumbs ups... one for great storytellin, one for the song playing, and one for part about tuning, and media reproduction... thank you for those moments you are sharing with us
If you ever feel like granting a bucketlist wish , It would be my dream to play drums with you Mr Fabulous Leland Sklar !!!

Thanks Leland for bringing back this memorable track ! I still have my original vinyl Spectrum album !!! We love you playing ! Saw you on the Toto DVD, just great ! Tks !!!
I love how you are so into everything you play! So passionate!
Elegant play as always Mr Leland, thank you very much for this moment.
Started following recently---You are awesome! Thank you for what you're doing. I got to see Billy at a house in Half Moon Bay many years ago and I love revisiting this music. Stay safe!!
Thanks Leland, this is another nice gift, all these homemades. I've been listening to you since the early 70's, and it is so interesting to hear your take on so much music-well,so much music history! Thanks for your example, your service, your sound.
Youre a boss good sir! Take care! Thank you so much for doing this!

@@darrylmoore2543 - Right on! I forgot, I'll be 57 in Aug.
Spectrum came out when I was a junior in high school. I remember playing drums with it, working out what Billy was playing and writing a chart for the drum part. Thanks Leland - your music has been the soundtrack of my life.
I see why that guy was watching you with binoculars 10ft away at gig in NY you mentioned in Stratus video!! All those cool bass rrifffs you slip in there how doyadoit haha Thanks for the fun videos
I agree with with your comment about teachers ,nurses and musicians it is a calling .Thank You for saying all of that ! This is why i offer to play where I attend church but things have changed so much for me this past year with how things are done at church which is a same !
As professional bass player for over 3 decades, i can't decide what i enjoy more watching your clips Mr. Sclar. Is it music, or stories, i really can't tell.
But what i can tell is that i enjoy every single moment with your clips sir!
Wish you all the best in your future professional and personal life sir. Deep respect.
Hi from Johannesburg, South Africa. Absolutely brilliant what you have done & what you doing now. Just love watching you play and reminiscing about all the things you have done and who you’ve played with. Just plain awesome!!!
That turnaround lick is SO bad-ass! It’s awesome to see the finger positioning that The Master uses here! What a treat, really.
I’ve always loved the way you play Lee, suddenly I realize what an awesome player you really are.
