- Spitfire Fest is a compilation of video clips taken by me between 1992 and 2009. The clips were filmed at Rochester, Biggin Hill, Manston, Duxford, North Weald and Chailey. Pilots: Mark and Ray Hanna, Nigel Lamb, Dan Griffith, Peter Teichman, Peter Monk, Taff Smith, Andy Sephton and Clive Rowley (BBMF). The footage taken in the 1990s was VHS and the later footage was shot using digital tape. I hope you will enjoy watching and listening to various Marks of Spitfire.
Absolutely wonderful. These low passes at 8:00 gave me an uncomfortable amount of goosebumps.
Abso bloodylutely Marvellous, the sound to die for, we even got a victory roll as well
Very nice.
Very nice!
Many thanks for your comment.
Fantastic!
For the record Elliot L, the first clip shows the late Mark Hanna taking off for the first test flight of PL965 at Rochester Airport and the landing on 23rd December 1992. The weather conditions were far from ideal, with the cloud base approximately 500 feet above the airfield. As can be seen in the video clip, the visibility was also far from ideal. If you are interested, there is a clip on my channel which shows the flight.
Excellent collection. I well remember being at airshows in the late 60s and 70s and seeing the most stunning displays by Spitfires (doing stuff that is probably outlawed these days). Some of the clips demonstrate the reasons why toddlers and their 'encouraging' parents should stick to swimming pools. There's only one thing worse than a PA commentator who won't shut up, and that's hordes of squealing kids and cooing mums.
In the passage approximately 7:00 to 9:00+, does the pilot use unusual amounts of rudder in some of his turns, or is it just a trick of the video, or maybe even a windy day?
Pedro Conejo
Pedro Conejo No trick of the video or wind. Just Dan Griffith - test pilot - giving an excellent display.
First clip features some slightly poor flying.
Er, I don't think so!
I hope that's sarcasm...
Ever landed a spit? It didn't nose over, I call that a win
Mark Hanna was not averse to giving em a bit of stick and could show what they could do
