As many of us watching this did, I grew up watching Ray and Mark flying MH434 and other wonderful aircraft. So many wonderful and very happy memories as a small boy, being on a crowd line with my father, watching some brilliant flying. Then years on, I was so proud to be able to stand on those same crowd lines, with my own little boy, watching the same aircraft being flown by Ray and being able to explain and share that fantastic legacy for another generation. I was heartbroken at the time of Mark's tragic accident and can only imagine the horror and pain felt by Ray who witnessed it all. After Ray passed away, my son and I shared a very emtional moment, as MH434 was flown in tribute, in the same incredible way, as a final tribute at Biggin Hill, complete with the ( by then banned, but he did it anyway!) drop into the valley and zoom climb out again. It was as the sun was beginning to set and we both shed tears as we stood against the fence line. RIP to both and thank you for all those wonderful displays that gave us so much pleasure. Never to be forgotten.

Reminds me of my days stationed at RAF Wattisham 84 to 87. 56Sqdn FGR2 74 Sqdn F4J. Out on the airfield on 'chute recovery'. Very atmospheric at night during ' night flying'. Being yards away from the end of the runway, 4 ship takeoffs with full re heat. Happy days.

An event that can never take place today, sadly Rolls-Royce sold the Hucknall factory, the runway has been ripped up and 100s of houses built on the airfield.

By all accounts Mark was very handsome, charismatic and had a great respect and rapport with veterans. God rest his, and his father's soul. Both a real loss to the warbird airshow fellowship!

This was a marvellous display of the Spitfire by Mark Hannah as all the displays he did in other aircraft were. I saw him fly at Duxford quite a few times and you knew you would get a wonderful display from him. He was a consummate professional pilot and treated the aircraft with great care. I couldn't believe he had that awful accident in Spain and shortly passed away. A great loss to the aviation world. Mark Hannah RIP.

Fine flying but with a dangerous element of showing off leaving minimal margin for error or engine/structural failure. He should have known better so I reserve my hero worship of him. And yes I'm well aware of his back story.

Not so. The one thing Ray was known for was giving the most thrilling display possible while still retaining a good safety.margin. None of that display would have been even close to the limits.
