How To Remove the Skirt of Dead Leaves from a Trunked Yucca Plant
As trunked yuccas grow they will develop a 'skirt' of old leaves much like a palm tree does and they can be trimmed away or left in place. I prefer to remove the dead skirt to minimise the risk of it becoming a fire hazard.
Use pruning sleeves or a thick shirt offer protection from sharp leaf margins.
First method- Gently tug each leaf in a downward motion.
Second Method- Twist the leaf around your index finger or all four fingers and then tug the leaf in a downward motion.
Third Method- With one hand pull the leaf horizontally whilst chopping the leaf using the part of the hand opposite to your thumb.
