    I appreciate your instructional videos. There's not a lot out there on the Old Smokey.

    I love the Old Smokey, and other videos about inexpensive BBQ. My wife, not so much, she already thinks I'm obsessed with buying to many grills and gadgets. 🤠

      Visibly Charred Thank you, I like inexpensive ways to barbecue too. All one really needs is a safe place to build a fire.

    Thanks for the tips. I just moved to the south and I had noticed this grill in all my new friends. So one of my friends gave me one of there Old Smokey. I tell you, I am so empress with this grill... I been telling my family and friends up north they need to check this model out.... One last thing. I decided to place my thermometer on top because of my height.

    I'm guessing this Thermometer thing, wasn't a spur of the moment kinda thing. You seemed to put a lot of thought into this process, which I found very useful, I'm sure others will as well. I'm definitely the thermometer on top kinda guy. Nicely Done. Gracias por compartir. 😎.

      Joe's BBQ House I was just watching your video while you were watching mine!
      These are not the best grills, but I truly believe they are the best grill for under a hundred bucks. Probably the only ones in that are price range made in the USA. They cook better than many grills that cost much more than that. Simple and effective.
      Thanks Joe!

    Big Lew, bought an Old Smokey this week. Thinking about putting a thermometer on the bottom bucket right under grate level. I know that's real, real low, but I thought it would be an accurate spot that would also be out of the way.

    • @BigLewBBQ
      @BigLewBBQ  4 роки тому +1

      Probably so, it will be out of the way of anything you want to cook.

    Thanks Big Lew. Just installed my thermo and I’m loving this Old Smokey. A buddy of mine has one and I liked his so much I got my own. Now, I’m a meticulous sort. Like to take care of my stuff and make it last. He leaves his outdoors with the lid on but I read on the Old Smokey site not to leave the lid on. I have a Texas sized garage (meaning it says it’s a two-car but it’ll fit one car and a motorcycle) so I have no room to cart this thing into the garage each and every time. Any recommendations? I pretty much have to leave it outside but I’ve just been kinda propping the lid up some on a chunk of 2x4.

    Is there a reason you don’t smoke with the 18in? I just bought one and I have some chicken marinating that I wanted to smoke.

    • @BigLewBBQ
      @BigLewBBQ  2 місяці тому

      You can, I don’t have an 18” any longer. It’s just a smaller chamber, you can cook less meat, it uses less charcoal, yet you have to tend to it and refuel it more often. You likely won’t have to refuel with chicken wings they will cook fairly quick.

    If you order the grill and thermometer at the same time, they will pre-drill the hole on the top of the grill for you! :D

  • @mrodeif
    @mrodeif 4 роки тому

    If you want it on the side, what's wrong with placing it just below grate level? Just wondering.

    • @BigLewBBQ
      @BigLewBBQ  4 роки тому +1

      Kire Rodeif that is certainly doable. However, if the thermometer stem is too long it could possibly interfere with insertion or removal of the charcoal tray.

  • @DavidCajun-qf9ti

    Nowadays the dampner on the bottom does not align with the holes correctly which is messing up the temperature consistency which wont keep a moderate temp. Or the fire goes out. I called Old Smokey and told them their punch out dies must be off and to check them. So i waited a year and bought a jumbo and the same thing is going on the dampner does not align correctly with the bottom holes. Ive had probably 18 of these and used them till almost the bottoms fell out since i was about 18 yrs old. But as of now until corrected i will never purchase one again. Apparently Old Smokey doesnt care about their values of their product to their consumers no longer.
