@@styrenebuilds6851 . People complain because they’re trying to nickle and dime buyers. What’s so hard about having a studio at $999 and having a studio plus at $1400 and calling it a day? $2,000 for a studio is a ripoff, especially when standards could be had for $2,200 a few years ago
I’m with you, not sure what void this fills? The modern studio is technically a modern model with studio accents. At least that’s how I interpret it, since modern is listed first in the title. 🤷♂️. It is very weird though. I’m more inclined to pick up an older studio for much less and do some crazy wiring and pickups.

I truly actually think after just receiving one of the new session studio guitars that it is as good as my standard I was buying faded less Paul standards anyway because honestly, I use them for gigs as well as of course, teaching lessons, rehearsal, etc. so having several different guitars and putting all my favorite pick ups in each one for me is an awesome thing it keeps the price down and again I customize them with Hand wound PAF pick ups of my choice. There’s certainly plenty of pick up makers out there now for boutique hand wound clones I also like the Eastman guitars maybe this is some attempt because of adding the flame maple which I have to tell you the top on the one I got is as good as my standard without a doubt it is flamed up unbelievably well And I like the 57 pick ups. They’re not bad. I do not like any coil splitting I don’t mind phase reversal, but to me splitting a coil just does not sound worth a crap. PRS has done a good job with it, but give some pick ups do not sound good to me split not even on this model. I do not enjoy the tones that I have played so far this morning Only having the guitar for a day I can’t say much but thanks for your opinions. I do agree with you about what are the hell or what the hell are they doing? Also note Guitar Center has their book matched top less Paul standard 50s and 60s for 2299 and they’re pretty good looking tops so how does that work if it hadn’t been from Guitar Center I probably would have purchased it but truly have had bad experiences a few times and will not buy online only face-to-face from them lol Sweetwater is the way to go. I've not had any interest in the Studio lineup until they released the Session. Mine should be here 12.09.2024. I have 0 complaints on the price, it is what it is.
$2,000 is too much. They should have just used the cheaper pickups they use in all other studios and let buyers upgrade IF they wanted to. All they needed to do on this was weight relief and gloss finish and price it at $1,500. If I'm going to drop $2,000 on a Gibson, may as well buy a standard.
@@Lando4534, I didn't pay 2,000. I was fortunate enough to get a deal on mine for 1,700 which I was very happy with. The guitar is incredible, plays beautifully. I can get Humbucker sounds, I can get single coil sounds, I can even make the damn thing sound like a strat. One of my best purchases for 2024.
I was saving for the new studio, seems a very well designed and versatile instrument, especially at a price of $1600, but the session model is just a whole step above aesthetically, and you get phase as well as coil tap, so slightly more versatile still. I think if you compare it to the pre-COVID LP moderns, which were initially $2k (later upped to $2400) then it is a solid investment and actually more affordable when you account for inflation.
@ not sure how this guitar release is considered that. It’s an “upgraded” Studio. Like Fender have the Player and the Player Plus categories. Seems to be the greatest hits of stripped down in terms of less production costs (ie no binding) but not at the sacrifice of features. I’ve always wanted a carved heel and the next best step up is a Modern Standard for 3k after tax.
I stopped by to check out a Studio Session today... they got it out of the box for me and I played it about an hour, going back to pick it up tomorrow. The Ebony neck and cut away plus I like those pickups for rock means that it plays better than almost every other LP they have... about 20 of them, I have looked at them on and off for over a month now. $$$ Remember that Gibson did "list" prices. I have a 2017 HP Standard that listed for $5400... they were actually selling for $3200 and my wife got mine for $2750. Given it has an asymetrical compound neck and a AAAA top that is one of the best I have ever seen and the LP Access cutaway though (I took all the chrome and robot tuners off). It's worth noting that most of the Sessions I have seen, the tops aren't nearly as nice as the ones they sent for review ;) That's ok though, it's the feel and sound that matters on something you plan to gig with.
It’s a good looking guitar, no doubt. And less back pain is a good thing. I’m just surprised at how many studio models they’ve announced in the past 10 months.
Bought my first vintage Greco about 12 years ago. It’s a 1977 LP Custom copy. Paid $850. Absolutely phenomenal guitar. Plays & sounds amazing. Could never see shelling out the cash they want for these new Gibsons. You’re literally just paying for the name, which at this point has been tarnished beyond repair…
You commentary is very well warranted. This is not a rant is a good observation. Gibson just released "The One" a few weeks ago and now releases "The Session" making this launch pretty weird. Gibson should have released The One and The Session at the same time to make a more comprehensive release and to be transparent to customers by giving them two options or two price tiers on a similar specs guitar. Literally many people that bought "The One" probably are still within the returning period window to get their money and upgrade if the added features of the Session is something worth the extra $500. Terrible planning on Gibson's part. Even that Cobalt blue burst is just... WTH are you thinking Gibson, you just released the Blueberry burst and your new Session is competing against it being so similar.
I bought a new Studio and just ordered a Studio Session. I think they’re both great guitars and are reasonably priced for quality American made instruments.
I don’t doubt the new one is good too. I’m just confused by their business strategy with the Studio, but I really think a lot of it is because the Modern apparently isn’t doing as well as hoped. The new one looks great though. Love the too and finishes better than the Modern.
@@CompanyGripGuitar This guitar, outside of the binding and name, actually reminds me of the old Traditional with the 57 pups and double A flame. I am not sure that is a bad thing. But, they should market it that way if that is the intention.
I went to Guitar Center to check out the Studio Session Les Pauls and they had 50’s and 60, Les Pauls married down to $2,249 so I passed on the Studio Session 😉
That line is almost like it was written in another language and then translated to English. Or it was written by AI? Im not sure what to make of Gibson's exploding catalog of models and colors. That's all Epiphone's territory now. It may be that given everything they simply can't turn a profit at less than $2k. The days of $500 Gibson's are over and that includes used players grade ones too.
I am with you on the opinion that Gibson is clearing the sub $1500 space for Epiphone as I watch the Epiphone pricing slowly creep up. The problem that Epiphone has and will continue to have is that the used market will keep thumping them on the head. They are pricing the Epiphone Standard series at $700 USD now and I can buy a like-new used model any day of the week on FB Marketplace for $350 or less. I would believe that there are currently less than 10 models of any Epiphone made that will sell at $1000 or more used - so most anything paid over $1000 is a for sure loss not to mention the general depreciation on top of that.

Rant away! I like there's Classic 57s instead of 4xx in the Studio Session. But this whole Studio variant evolution has become too confusing. Just started playing again after 20 years (junk acoustic) ready to get back into Les Paul’s… coming from a 95 studio and a 57 gold top reissue from the late 90’s)… what should I be looking for that has the same feel? Trying to read up on Les Paul’s in this day and age, has me confused… I stopped at the box store the other day, they had no studios but to a of standards.. I learned it’s 50 neck and 60 neck. While the 50 neck felt good to me, still didn’t feel as good as the old 95 studio… and my god did this thing have the worse neck I’ve seen on a new guitar…. Going to the ma and pa local store in a few days that’s deals in gibsons…. I think my 57 re issue had burst buckers? 95 studio was 490/98 I enjoyed the sound I got out of both guitars.
Hi, thanks for the message. The Les Paul studio modern might be your best bet, or at least worth a try. It has the 498/490 pickup combo you are used to, plus an ebony fretboard which I think the 95 Studio has. Necks on Gibsons in the mid-90s weren’t as uniform as they are now, but I’m thinking a 60s or Slim Taper is probably closer to what you had than a fat 50s. My guess anyway. Cheers! And good luck!
@ stopped the box store, played a 50s & 60s standard (no studios there) 50’s obviously felt like my 57 R, it also felt (atleast I think) similar to me 95 studio…. The 60’s neck I did not like, felt like a sg or strat… I started reading up since I came across your video, seems like the only thing they are putting the 490/98 in is the studio but they have the 60’s style neck… none of my local stores or even guitar center have any modern’s… I did find a 50’s 2024 standard ltd cherry wash used for 2k, seems they are 2.5k new? But it has burst buckers in it, 2’s (thought they just made 5’s aka just one style). How does a bb2 sound compared to a 498?
@@BB-xn1rwI’m a big fan of Burstbuckers, but admittedly there are a few different types, and to my ear some are better than others. @@CompanyGripGuitarso I picked up a 2024 regular studio, used was only $1000… feels a little like the old 95, i got use to the neck pretty quick and actually like it, Seems easier to play than what I remember in the 90’s… but I will say I do not like the burst bucker pros… they push a weird frequency in the high mid - high (under moderate to high gain) feels like 2.5k & somewhere around 6k. It’s a very unpleasant tone to ears. It just doesn’t have the meat sound of the Les Paul’s back in the the day. I guess I need to put the 498t in the bridge. Clean the bro makes the les Paul sound like a tele on steroids.., it’s just very thin. The neck bbpro doesn’t bother me much, it might be a hair better then the 490, at least what I’m hearing now and trying to remember from back in the 90s

Stop whining there's no Gibson police that are forcing anyone to buy any of these guitars. If you don't like a guitar don't buy it, move on to the model that lives up to your ridiculous standards! No group of so called fans whinge and complain about everything a company does or doesn't do than Gibson fans, maybe Star wars fans might be slightly more insufferable. Honestly there are so many great guitar companies out there it seems counter intuitive to be blindly brand loyal at this point! Get creative order a Chibson in the style you like and swap out the tuners electronics and pickups and have the guitar you want for far less than half the price!

Gibson seems to be overcomplicating the line of products again. Way too much being released by them this year. They should keep it simple like they did with the new lineup in 2019 and just swap out a couple colors and one or two models a year.
The lineup itself is simple enough. The problem is having more than one model in that lineup with “Studio” in the name. Of course, prior to the lineup changes in late 2019 there had been various different “Studio” models in production at the same time so the somewhat complicated/confusing naming really isn’t something new for Gibson.
No matter what they do people will always complain . Any time they have tried to make more affordable models people will nit pick it to death.
How's it a more affordable model when the regular studio is much less to buy?

My studio was 900 bucks with a hard case I think it even had the shroud 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
They repackaged the les paul classic into the studio, more or less. The only thing I like about it is the access heel. In all honesty, though, I'm gutted gibson discontinued the tribute line. They were good value, but not much decent offerings at the 1000$ mark mafk
In particular, I like the 60s Burstbuckers the most and the Burstbucker Pros the least.
All good pickups, but the 60s are Alnico 5 and unpotted and I think they just sound real nice.
Cheers!
The neck bbpro doesn’t bother me much, it might be a hair better then the 490, at least what I’m hearing now and trying to remember from back in the 90s
after buying the new modern studio a month ago, this was slightly annoying news. but I do enjoy the pickups in the modern more so I guess its not all bad ?
Yeah, I mean the Modern Studio is still pretty awesome. I do like the new tops better though. But what can you do 🤷♂️
@@CompanyGripGuitar after much debate, i returned the modern studio and got the studio session in cobalt burst LOL
I didnt hate the 57's as much as I thought and the top is amazing
@@mattj1341 57s are great pickups. I would never fault someone for not wanting one of these, my issue has always just been with Gibson just going crazy with the studio line this year. But the guitars themselves - fantastic! Happy holidays!
People rant about the pickups, or the look.... they then change it, and release a different modified line... and people rant again 🤣🤣🤣
What i truly think is... we hear too many voices. The internet is NOISE.
Ummm...the pickup wiring is new. Don't believe me? Pick up a.les paul, put the switch in the middle, turn on volume up the other off, and you won't hear any sound.
Hello there. It’s the same electronics that was on the Modern Studio that came out a year ago. Cheers!
@CompanyGripGuitar didn't know they did that a year ago. Am glad it available now. Thanks.
And everyone wonders why many people search out for copy type guitars tired of all the back and forth with quality and price. They are not stupid and we certainly are not. We are all tired of the nonsense. I just got a Tribute beautiful Les Paul fast neck sounds killer for $800. Figures Gibson dropped the Tribute.
Gibson trying to reach the minimum word count for sure haha
haha!
I tried this on the store today and im dissapointed ,it feels cheap ,my Epiphone is better.😅
I think it's hilarious that you can now buy Chinese knockoff Les Pauls that are just about 1 to 1 replicas for a fraction the cost of a real Gibson. Get creative order a Chibson in the style you like and swap out the tuners electronics and pickups and have the guitar you want for far less than half the price!
People complain because it a company just trying to nickle an dime people. I also play video games and NVIDIA does the SAME stuff. Not hard, just have:
Les Paul Studio for $999 (entry Level model)
Les Paul Studio Plus ( same as studio but with nicer finish) for $1,200 - $1.300 (Entry Level Model)
Les Paul Classic (mid to high-end model) $1,700 - $1,800
Les Paul Standard (High end model with all the bells and whistles) $2,100+
Obviously mix in 50s and 60s versions of these models
Maybe the Gibson grift is on before they relocate to the far east.
