I almost started crying when John asked why his leg wasn't working and when he got the year wrong.

Thank GOODNESS they are talking about post-tbi behavior changes. It took me THIRTEEN YEARS to get a brain injury diagnosis post auto collision. I lost a LOT. OF. TIME. I'm still dealing with the changes 25 years later. Multiple re-injuries.

I'm a geriatric nurse. I can't tell you how many times I've seen elderly been taken off opiods without any help or care about the withdrawl. If you been on 32ug fentanyl patches for years, like a doctor don't know, that just ending them all cold turkey is gonna give bad withdrawal.. and often the elderly that can't communicate..

The cure is to not drink. We need to begin to make drinking alcohol a special occasion drink and not an everyday or after work thing. Lifelong teatoller here
No cure for alcoholism. You stop drinking but it only takes one drink to start it over again...some ppl it may take more than one in other words it is always there. I have 42 yrs sober but I know I can never have a drink again....ever!

I have been binge watching this series and Emergency AU for weeks, i think im addicted but thats ok ❤..ive learned alot watching these series bùt one of the main things ive learned is that We all are human, & we all are capable of loving the next person unconditionally..it dont take much time or effort to show your fellow brother or sister that you care and they aren't alone through a devasting traumatic situation ❤🫶

I love this series, it’s not afraid to show most of the blood and damage done to the body during an accident. I’m a retired nurse and I’ve missed it so much. This show makes me feel like I’m back working in the hospital. Great job everyone. 😊❤🙏

I'm a 61 year old man, and this episode made me cry. My first tears came when I saw John feeling probably hopless and devastated, especially since he had already problems with his brain, I trully hope he has recovered completely and is doing well and happy. Equally emotional but uplifting was Benedict's case, a true example of real fatherly love. I wish Benedict success controlling his addiction, it will be a life long job, but not something he couldn't accomplish, especially with the help of that incredible, loving ad thoughtful father he has. This is by far the episode I've liked the best.
I was aghast that Benedict spent 3 days in a detox center. With national health care, I assumed that going into a detox program would mean detox AND rehab. Alcohol abuse is draining on public healthcare systems. It seems that a detox program should be contingent on going through rehab as well. Every dollar spent on rehab is a hundred not spent in A&E.
@@jeanaprewitt9658 Dear Jeanna, I couldn't agree more with you, detox is vitally important and should go hand in hand with a rehab program, which is absolutely essential for a real and lasting recovery of addictions.

Staying clean and sober is a life long job. You need a support group. It does work.
Benedict has his whole life ahead, but if he keeps drinking, that might not happen. I'm sober 25 years, and I don't miss it. Have a great day ❤️🙂⚘️.

My husband had an 8 mm brain bleed at 3:30 am and lost his speech and right side. 2 years later,and hes just now starting to learn to eat again

I feel terrible for John, when he realizes he doesn't know what the year is.
Benedict's dad is a hero. No question.
Been binging this and avoided crying for so many episodes. But John got me.
Rough episode. John realizing that he can’t answer the orientation questions correctly, and Benedict knowing that he was going into withdrawal and not being able to get help. Ugh.
Head injuries. TBI's are absolutely life changing. Our friend's sweet quiet musically gifted teen son had one and a few years later after a med increase he shot his dad, mom, sister and himself. All heard by his recently married older brother who had been on the phone with his dad. I absolutely blame the medication...but he also needed something. Such a tragedy. No one blamed the son. His brain was never the same affer surviving a 30 foot fall in a grain silo.

I would love to know how Benedict is doing all these years (10) later.
I feel really bad about the young guy asking for help with alcohol withdrawals he obviously came before they got too bad and they get bad he probably knows that and planned better to come by before they fully kicked in sadly they sent him away not sick enough but now he’s about to start getting really sick and could turn deadly even. He more than likely went and got a way to get more alcohol to avoid the withdrawals since the hospital didn’t really feel he needed serious care. That’s sad and causes a lot of relapse and also fails for addicts struggling.
Many many congratulations to the young man who quit drinking. I hope his determination and strength keeps up.
I felt bad for Benedict. He had to wait to get the shakes from withdrawals until he was treated 😢 And, it's sad to see the suffering he's gone through. I really hope he can get ahead of his addiction and overcome it every day 🙏

In American hospitals (at least all the ones I've worked at/been to) if patients leave the building they're immediately deemed "left AMA"
😂 That was my thought too. Can you imagine? Where did bed 12 go? Smoke break. Oh ok. Let me tidy the bed while he’s out. Such lovely weather, bless him. 🤣 I guess when every bed isn’t worth thousands and a need to be filled, smoke breaks will be the norm.
I’ve seen tons of people outside our hospital with IV’s in, smoking. 😳

We have no smoking allowed on the whole hospital campus. You'd have to walk 2 blocks to have a smoke.

31:52 he came in before asking for help and they turned him away. Now look at him, this is heartbreaking. Both my parents were alcoholics I do not have much compassion for addicts.
They do bring a lot of misery to their families. Very sad and tragic.

Benedict drinking 74 units of 9% strong cider...in a day, is the biggest exaggeration i have heard in my whole life! I don't doubt he drinks alot,but...........!!
Maybe he meant units of alcohol? Not 74 bottles/cans of cider? It sounds a lot, but I think one unit is 10ml or 8g of pure alcohol, a strong beer is about 3 units. But I admit it sounds really a lot with 74 units. It would mean about 24-25 beers. But then again alcoholics really CAN drink a lot when they're far down on the road to death/institution..

Yeah, sorry. I do not believe a father with a cross behind him saying he did not cause it and cannot cure it. There was fundamental emotional neglect there at some point.
a lot of the things the father was saying are straight out of the therapy manual for people dealing/living with alcoholic famly members - so don't beat him up over that to me it means that he was trying because he sought out therapy. I have several alhcoholic family members and he is absoltutely correct the only person who can cure addict is the addict.

BS you can't say that at all. Alcoholism is a genetic disorder involving 5 known genes one of which is a protective gene, if that's switched off you have a real issue controlling use or entering into sobriety. It has nothing to do with upbringing per se or neglect. We know this by studying identical twins.
