Partly heartwarming to see this, when it was truly THE LEAGUE. It was highly competitive and smart. You knew you were watching professional basketball. Hated Dick Stockton and Tom Heinsohn though. They both were heavily biased toward Boston and acted like the Pistons should be happy to be there. They weren't really in touch with the play on the floor.
I saw it differently. I thought Heinson went out of his way, to be tough on Boston, and not show his bias. As for Dick Stockton, he's exactly like every other play by play announcer in history. Whoever the home team is, he's for. Stockton wasn't quite as bad as others, but still showed way more enthusiasm for the home boys.
Absolutely. It killed Stockton to see the Pistons or any team beat Boston in the post season. He & Heinsohn were so flagrant with their bias during one other Boston series that my brother called CBS in disgust. The person who took the call said unfortunately, there were a LOT of people complaining to them about Stockton & Heinsohn’s announcing at the time.
The Lakers always had a big advantage over their Eastern Conference opponents in the finals in the 80’s - Sixers, Celtics and Pistons. In the East the playoffs were a war every year. Celtics and Sixers would kill eachother in first half of 80’s then Pistons and Celtics later. Mix in the tough Bucks, the Bernard King Knicks, the Dominique Hawks, then the Jordan Bulls. The Lakers played nobody. They swept most of the WCFs. They were in the finals in 80,82,83,84, 85, 87, 88 and 89. Rested and ready.
@@rss83073SFBayArea in 88 the Mavs did take them to 7 games in the WCF yes. That was an anomaly. The Mavs were a good team at home. I think that series was just a matchup issue for the Lakers. Harper had a great series so did Aguirre and Donaldson because of his size and physicality was able to give Kareem some problems. From what I remember.

Celtics made it to the finals for the 4th year in a row (after beating the shitstons again) on fumes, they were burnt out, Parish sprained both ankles, Birds back was hurting him and Mchale was playing with a broken foot and we lost Bias the previous year, they just played a grueling 7 game series with the shitstons as the Lakers were waiting after having swept Seattle, I knew we had no chance that year beating the Lakers, they were healthy and well rested while the Celtics were the complete opposite, if Bias had lived, it would have prolonged Bird and McHale's careers, Pistons would never have beaten the Celtics meaning they would have never made it to the finals and the Celtics would have definitly won a few more championships during the Bird era, just ask Michael Cooper, what a shame,,,,,,

At 1:28:46 , Bill Laimbeer did an awful job acting to sell referee Joey Crawford a push on the back by Kevin McHale. Laimbeer was burnt under the basket and McHale clearly got the offensive rebound and easy slam dunk. That era of 1980's NBA basketball needs to come back! You just cannot throw the ball away like Isiah threw that away; the darkness over this game where everyone knows and knew Thomas messed this up and you can see throughout the game, his teammates really were shying away from him, he had to earn their trust back...this was the most difficult game mentally the Pistons had to play because they had to keep their heads up and stay in the game, even when Boston was in it in the 3rd quarter...so this series was a turning-point for the Pistons to win back-to-back titles....All Isiah had to do was simply play game 7 and move on, same with Rodman, just play the game, you lost, move on...say nothing, move on....the drama was stupid and unnecessary....I mean you lost game 5 and I'll still say it's like he threw that ball to Bird on purpose the more I watch it, just my opinion, not saying it happened that way -- he had timeouts and had Rodman/Mahorn on the Pistons' offensive side of the court and see, he trusted Laimbeer on the foul line who was right underneath the Celtics' offensive basket so he threw the ball to Laimbeer who was a better foul shooter -- the better move was to call timeout...but if you look, nobody ran to the ball and why was Isiah the one taking it out?...Nobody else called timeout? Think about it really quick: All of the Finals were default winners from 1980-1993, the winning team didn't win, it was the losing team that helped them win -- just go back and look; so a rookie in Magic can defeat a vet in Dr. J. without Kareem?...Somehow Magic just forgets how to play against Bird in crucial situations in 1984; then you have Moses Malone losing to Bird teaming up with Dr. J. and winning in '83 to finally give Irving his title because Irving let Magic win in '80, Bird in '81, and Magic in '82 because those were the faces of the league for the business, then Jordan came around in '84-'85 and it was Magic/Bird's league and Bird was MVP from 1984-86 and Thomas hooked him up with that pass in '87 to make a Bird/Magic Finals for the league then Thomas got his shot in '88 from Bird helping out Thomas, and it's Magic's league because Bird got on stage saying Magic was the best he's seen, so the league embraced Magic more due to Bird.... Remember, even in this all-star past, Thomas said Bird had his career in his hand so when Bird said that about Magic it was Magic's league....So Thomas winds up injured in '88, the league called that foul on Kareem in game 6 and Magic won back-to-back now Magic has to let Thomas win with his hamstring -- Magic wins back-to-back and then loses and now Thomas wins back-to-back and loses, now it's Jordan's turn, he wins back-to-back and then what? He cannot let go, now he has to retire...it was supposed to be Ewing/Barkley's turn in '93.... It keeps going.

All of the Finals were default winners from 1980-1993, the winning team didn't win, it was the losing team that helped them win -- just go back and look; so a rookie in Magic can defeat a vet in Dr. J. without Kareem?...Somehow Magic just forgets how to play against Bird in crucial situations in 1984; then you have Moses Malone losing to Bird teaming up with Dr. J. and winning in '83 to finally give Irving his title because Irving let Magic win in '80, Bird in '81, and Magic in '82 because those were the faces of the league for the business, then Jordan came around in '84-'85 and it was Magic/Bird's league and Bird was MVP from 1984-86 and Thomas hooked him up with that pass in '87 to make a Bird/Magic Finals for the league then Thomas got his shot in '88 from Bird helping out Thomas, and it's Magic's league because Bird got on stage saying Magic was the best he's seen, so the league embraced Magic more due to Bird.... Remember, even in this all-star past, Thomas said Bird had his career in his hand so when Bird said that about Magic it was Magic's league....So Thomas winds up injured in '88, the league called that foul on Kareem in game 6 and Magic won back-to-back now Magic has to let Thomas win with his hamstring -- Magic wins back-to-back and then loses and now Thomas wins back-to-back and loses, now it's Jordan's turn, he wins back-to-back and then what? He cannot let go, now he has to retire...it was supposed to be Ewing/Barkley's turn in '93.... It keeps going.
