  • The modern Ford one-litre Ecoboost engine - if you have any reason to access the front of the engine perhaps to remove the pulley, or when repairing or servicing the timing belt or front main seal, you need to remove the very tight pulley securing bolt. A torque multiplier is needed for this, to both undo, and then upon reassembly, retighten the bolt. Let’s look at the Laser Tools torque multiplier and the special adaptor kit that enables it to be used on the one-litre Ecoboost engine.

      But strange that they don't show it working on the car without the engine removal, which ford technicians recommend, Absolute bad design that not many cars will make the 150k replacement ford recommend 😢

      It does look like a nice bit of kit, unfortunately the price is also awesome and not in a good way. Reckon it will take a few belt changes to cover the cost.

      Only the one. I have been getting quotes between £1200 and £1700 to have the belt and water pump changed. The cost of these tools, along with the parts, and doing it myself is less than half the price.

      No, you can do it with the engine in place. A number of components need to be removed to gain access. That's why garages charge a fortune to do it. It is labour intensive.

      Complete waste of time for a simple job ,honda had the same problem with the stationery engine, with the timing slipping 😢 Engineering failure waiting to happen 😮

      @@lynjames4306these bolts tend to seize or tighten themselves, which makes them pretty reliable, but I prefer a keyway

      I'm certain you do need the diamond coated friction washer when installing the crank pulley on these engines. This should have been mentioned in the video.

      @@ferrumignis not all of these engines require it, im working on one now and from the factory it is not on here. dont know why its not all the same.

    think you need to update this video or put a warning that its wrong and you need to do 33NM to the input of the torque multiplier then the extra angles to achieve the 300NM plus 90 degrees at the bolt

      We would always recommend using the OEM/Autodata setting for the pre-torque setting but as stated in the video our torque multiplier has a different ratio so our instructions for its use must be followed.

    Fords procedure seems to suggest using the torque wrench "with" the torque multiplier fitted, their tool has a 5-1 ratio
    60nm then 90° x5
    Apparently that works too around 300nm (60nm X5) then 18° X 5 (1/5th of 90° five times)
    So 300nm + 90°
    Doing it according to this video with the Lazer tool would be equivalent to 25nm 70nm then 82.77°
    90°x8+25° = 745° divided by 9 which is the ratio of the tool = 82.77°
    The end result is Surely much less torque than required.😢😢
    If you follow the Lazer procedure "with" the torque multiplier the numbers still do not add up.
    25nm x9 would be 225nm,
    70nm x9 would be 630nm,
    Considering the 9-1 ratio of the lazer tool i believe the procedure should be
    25nm without tool
    70nm without tool
    33.5nm with tool (33nm x 9 = 301.5nm)
    Then 90° x 8 +25° with tool.
    The above would be equivalent to 301.5nm + 82.77°, still slightly under spec compared to fords numbers but closer than what this video shows.

      The Laser 7318 Torque Multiplier procedure is as follows, (please note the Ford OEM tool uses a different gear ratio)
      Laser 7318 and 7317 gear ratio is 1:9.
      With a torque wrench set the crankshaft bolt in 2 stages.
      Stage 1 25Nm
      Stage 2 70Nm.
      Assemble Torque Multiplier on engine.
      Apply a starting torque with a torque wrench of 33NM to the torque multiplier.
      With a suitable power bar.
      Apply 8 x 90 deg, followed by a final 1 x 25 deg.

    What an absolutely ridiculous design, Iv done Ford cambelts before and had to tighten the bolt through 90 degrees a few times . This engine has obviously been designed to stop the diy man doing this job , unless of course he can afford the big price of the tool.

    In All my 40 years Repairing vehicles i have never seen so much Bull 💩 ln Repairing a simple timing belt, the Engineer's have lost it on this design, obviously a throw away engine, This would not be my next car ,A maximum time of 2 hrs would be the normal procedure on a fiesta cambelt 😢, Unbelievable and why i now drive a Hgv 😊
