Thanks for posting this I know it's older. I just purchased my first digital camera and it's the sony a77ll. Been shooting film since 1977. Looking at your pictures and making adjustments on the spot is very nice.
dejlig detaltjet gennemgang som jeg af og til kikker på, da jo mere jeg kender mit kamera jo mere overskud får jeg til nye måde at indstille- tak for det.
When you plug it in.. to use as a webcam.. How do you get rid of the focus Squares. BEcause they never go away .. I havent be able to find a thing on it.
I love this camera and your awesome review!!! You are enjoyable to listen to so more please!! FYI: to those wondering about the A 6000: Do your research on the loss of focus if you need to use an adaptor. I tried the A 6000 for the lighter weight but love the articulating screen on the sony a 77ii. On the a6000 there are very few e mount lenses over 250mm and the few that are available cost over $1000. The one they did have from 50mm - 300 mm range that was affordable , ( over $350) could not even focus on a bird in a bush 3 car lengths away. You also need adaptors for others lenses that are not E mount for other companies. I bought the a 6000 and tried an La-ed 4 adaptor to mount an A mount lens on the a6000 E mount camera ( adaptor $365). I did this because I was trying to stay with a smaller lighter weight camera for my small and aging hands. You AUTOMATICALLY drop autofocus points to 15 and speed slows as well. All other adaptors for various lenses ( Sigma, Canon ect) you DROP the autofocus points below 15 and speed. So the extra $$$ for the sony a 77ii was worth it vs spending money on adaptors and minimal very expensive Emount lens selection. Why buy a camera for it's features then lose them because of the need for adaptors? Maybe if you already own many lenses but for me new to a setup.....no. Sony is making a fortune in adaptors sales but could just come out with more Emount lenses. This sony a 77 ii ( uses A mount lenses) is bigger ( to most of you smaller) and more expensive but the trade off to KEEP the autofocus and super image quality ect is well worth your extra bucks and there are more A mount lenses available. I am a newbie to photography and learning this easily after playing with the menus. Well worth my savings and I went all the way!!!!
XAVC-S video format will be added to this camera by a firmware upgrade that has been announced by Sony and will be available in December 2014. It will also enhance the focus speed in low light.
Ralph love your videos :-) Thinking about getting the a77ii for shooting my son indoors at the pool he is a diver and 12 frames is sweet. Which lens or Zeiss lens do you recommend $ is no object. Will the Zeiss 1.4 lens's work better then the Sony 2.8 lenses ? Thanks Jeff :-)
Is it possible with the A77ii to control EVERYTHING (all menus, etc) via the evf or is the backpanel lcd required/necessary for some functions? Thank you.
question....if the a6000 has the same sensor type and size along with supposedly same focusing speed, why would someone need to get the bigger A77ii? thanks.
When you are a Professional or hold the camera a longer time, the A77 II is much more comfortable. And you can get an extra battery grip. And the A77 II is waterprotected and dustsealed. But talking about Picture-Quality an AF-Speed the difference is minor.
I purchased it for the bigger size and the weather resistance. being my first digital camera here 2022 it's fun step away from my minolta alpha 9 very similar in design and the benefits of using all my minolta lenses. So far it been a great camera.
I can say that this Sony A77 M2 is overall well made, pleasant to use, with a nice design, but the joistik is one of the few elements that is not so well made. Too often, instead of giving the ok (vertical pressure, central click) you click on one of the 4 directions. Sometimes happen easily to insert the wrong "drive", or to better say, the wrong direction. This is because the command is too short and have a too chewy behavior, that is not very precise. If you are comfortable and unhurried this can happen easily, but if you are in a hurry and in uncomfortable situations requiring, no errors, speed of execution and concentration on the subject to be shot, rather than on photographic tool, it happens very often, ... too often, too easly, and so you loose time to go back for do the correct action. This point of ergonomics, should be absolutely improved, Sony!
Tom Cass Tom, maybe if shooting in comfortable and quiet location and unhurried. I say again with different words. As soon as you find yourself having to interact with all the hardships that can be out of a study, in conditions not necessarily very difficult, but uncomfortable, because of the location in which you can be, such in front of a tripod, having to move yourself and having to repeatedly rotate the camera to take the shots, and then having to frequently change the position of the hands and the body respect to the camera, well, I doubt someone ever can reach the peace with it, and doubt that will experience good feelings, but rather you will be perpetually in conflict with that unfortunate joistik and an ergonomics poorly made. Try to go in the mountains, even on an easy path, but that is not the floor of a road, to shoot almost always in portrait orientation, perhaps with fingers hardened by the cold, and then see if you do not have the urge to send to the hell the child-engineer-manager/s that has made it so ... for Sony.
Tom Cass Yes Tom, this is true, we are different and ... think different. :) I am at least 10 years that I happly, quickly interact with computers exclusively by Wacom tablets and the pens, (before I was using only large Kensington Turbo Mouse Pro or similar) but I know others are not comfortable with these devices and have simple mouse, sometimes put on any surface, even poorly suited, without a mat. I do not know what they do, however, on computer...
I want to buy this camera but I am troubled by your findings. I have the A57 and instead of using the center button to "OK", I just half-press the shutter button and that brings me back to shooting mode with my desired setting. Can you find out if this is so with the A77II?
Leon Rex Yes Leon, it is so for all I've seen. The change of any settings, usually do not require confirmation, so there is no need to press the OK button and the half-pressing the shutter button bring the camera, and hope also you ... in shooting mode again. The change are accepted and stored by the camera immediately, it's normal, like all the cameras I know .... However, if you have to give the OK for delete a picture, of course, you're forced to do it with the central pressure of the joystick.
Almost all buttons are customizable, this is really useful, thank you Sony. What a pity that, when you assign a function, different from that printed on the body by the factory, the lettering and symbols are not updated and remain the same ...! What a Mess ... ;) They should make a body with micro displays instead of the usual ink, the technology would allow it, I think. 100 $ for this, I would like willingly spend.
Finally someone who knows the material without stammering and stuttering and notes hanging all over the place. Funny you refer to the camera in the feminine form ;-).
+Sunday Dickson Good idea. But I get between 50 and 80 Questions per day (Facebook, UA-cam, WhatsApp, SMS, Mail, Calls) and it's absolut impossible to answer all the questions. This would take several hours a day. I have my business and this is a fulltime Job. Here is the help of the community important. Sorry ....
Good Ralfs, I understand, you could as well go through the questions and start with the most important by way of your personal preference anyway. All the same good work and keep it up, the community needs your wealth of knowledge.
excellent because the manual is boring Perhaps Sony should recruit you. I have have used sony before but and the zeiss coatings on the sony senses made them razor sharp, I sold all my Nikon equipment. I traded in a Nikon D5100 which I really did not like. I will have lots of fun with this sony Camera. Please tell me some more things.

The best video I have seen on the A77 Mk II
Well done!
Perhaps you can do a follow-up showing the camera in use out in the field?
Thanks you for the great review!
Another great and extensive review!

Very good overview. Would be even better to have an explanation of what actual settings allow for specifically rather than just they exist.

Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your in depth interview. I may have missed it, but did you mention the tilt-out, articulating screen?
The theme song is from Cooking with Dog UA-cam Channel and she has had the theme song for many years.

Com'e' che nessuno pubblica foto scattate con questa macchina, forse perche' non mette a fuoco?
Great and very generous work. We share it in the Google+ Community "Sony Alpha SLT- A77 and A77II". Hope you will join us. Thanks again!
Good one Ralfs, but please do respond to our questions at least that's why you posted this video or you might loose your community/ followers.
