Hi Gary, I have a SAL50-200mm with the Sony A77M2. I am using 12Frames mode with Continuous High and I am trying to put it on Lock-On AF:Expandable Flexi Spot, but that icon seems to stay inactive. Is it my lens? Or are my settings wrong. Appreciate your comments.
Have you ever use the A77 Mark 1 ?? The 12fps mode in the old A77 does not lock AF & AE ~!!!!!! If you set AF to AF-C in A77, it does continuous AF during 12fps. The AE does change too, only the aperture will be fix in F3.5 or smaller for slower lens. If you set the AF to AF-S in A77, it does single AF, and you can set any aperture value .
Great review thanks. I got the a6000 but found that fast lenses are very expensive for this model, i have lea4 Adapter but found some limitations... Do you think the A77ll is a better compromise for the wide range of A mount lens? Thanks Gary
Say I put a tamron 150-600mm on this camera, will the aperture be stuck at f6.3 at 600mm or i could shrink it to f8 or f11, in 12 fps mode? Also how well does it track a bird in flight? Thanks!
Hey Gary Fong! I've used your Light Sphere Collapsable for about a month now. I've used it with the YN 560 III flash. It's a manual flash so I have to set everything by myself. The settings that I currently use are when I'm outdoor, I'll use shutter speed priority and set the shutter speed at 1/200 because my flash doesn't have high speed sync and the max sync speed on the Sony A99 is 1/200. I use this setting to get the smallest aperture possible without going over the max sync speed. When I'm indoor, I'll bring down the exposure compensation one stop and keep the flash power around 1/64. In both indoors and outdoors, I'll point the Light Sphere upward in its standard position. I usually keep the dome on. I'm not sure what it does, but it seem to increase the flash power. Could you please tell me the right settings to use for a manual flash with no high speed sync both indoor and outdoor and when to use the dome? This is a very interesting video by the way. I've never knew about the eye focusing function. Is it available on the A99? Thank you in advance!
Hello Gary. Thank you so much for all your videos about this alpha 77 m2. I am about to buy on for my videos but there is a point that i would like to know about the new M2 and didn't found on the web. Is it possible that this camera will have firmware to record on the new xavc videoformat? That's the only thing make me think twice before buying... Thank you so much.
Hi Gary, I can't begin to tell you how beneficial are your videos to me, that i decided one fine day to give my Canon gear up and switch to Sony.. now i just need a little help here, the pre flashing on my a77 ii is driving me crazy and i have no clue how to switch it off, do you have that clue for me... thanks
Great video. Like always, I have learned a lot from your videos. Does the new A77II improve or reduce the noise in the pictures that the older A77 used to have? I saw one of the videos on youtube that when you blow up the pictures there are lots of noise. Thanks.
Hello Gary, Im trying to decide which camera will be my new camera, now I have an A7r and I hate the AF, so I look at Canon 5dmk3 AF system 61pts and 41 cross pts, and I want to know if its similar to the A77 mk2 system, Do you know which one is better? Could you tell me which option will be better for photography in tennis matches?, thanks
How about the new canon 7d markII vs A77Mk 2?.. which one is better ,because I saw that have 65 cross focus points and 10fps vs 15 cross points and 12fps.
Hi Gary, great upload. I am thinking of getting the new a77 but since a fair bit of my work is video, I was a bit concerned about the 1.86x crop (that old a77 had), does mkii have the same crop on video as the old a77? Thanks in advance
Hi Gary, thank you so much for all your video and advices, I am starting to be a big fan of your work as I am a enthusiast photo amateur. I have a problem right now and watching all UA-cam video and forum do not help me and I get more confused so maybe you can advice on that ? I owned previously a Canon 550d, a Canon 50 D, Nikon D80, D300s and for family reason I have to sold it 2 years ago, anyway life goes on and now I want to reinvest in Digital camera but I am not sure now what would be the best choice. I am actually hesitating between 5 models all different as I like a bit of all of them, the Pentax K3, Nikon 7100, Sony a77 Mark II, Sony a7 and the Sony a7R. for my needs, what one have the others one doesn't and so on.. That could help perhaps, the 3 Camera's on the top is Sony a77 MKII crop sensor I know that but focus and speed also in low light seems good, and the two others Sony a7 and a7R what is important to me is speed, focus and quality also for poster and print. I am not sure if that make sense to you ? I hope that you could have some advice on these model. Many thanks.
Gary, you are a genius! Im im about to buy a Sony in the next days, but im stuck betwen 2 cameras... In one side i have in mind the a77II because ill need her for filming events (Not for taking pictures) and the impresive autofocus speed in low light conditions is very important to my for the kind of situations that i have to face sometimes (Weedings, birthdays, etc). And in the other hand i have in mind the a6000, and the reason is that a lot of people says that is mutch better in terms of Noise for filming. Gary, please, your videos helped my a LOT, but right now i cant make a choice! Knowing the kind of use ill give to it, can you plese clear my path to find the correct camera? Thanks!!!!! So much!!!!
Not a huge deal, but as I weigh trading my a77 for this newer model, I think I have to give up my built-in GPS...which I'm attached to, since I'm often shooting in the wild, and later want to know where I saw a particular wolf or bear...
Thanks for the always detailed reviews. Just wanted to know about the low light performance of the a77M2...i love Sony but it seems that Nikon's rivals are better in controlling noise at the same ISO levels...i shoot RAW
Sometimes these comparison videoes are interesting, but instead of listing feature differences avaiable from leaflets etc. from the manufacturer, it would be nice with some experience and testing results.
Awesome as always Gary !!! You have done a outstanding job at covering the Auto Focus, but alot of people still question the image quality of the Sony A77 series, So how has the Sony A77II improved the a77 series in terms of Image quality and You know this next question was coming and that is, how is the HIGH ISO above 800?
Hi what are the cheap and best lens options for Sony alpha 77 mark II
And what are the must have lenses

Can you do an updated review on a77 in 2024 showing how much it aged?
Mono? Where is the right channel?
