It’s a Nigerian tradition of spraying money. The money is for the celebrants only. The celebrant usually assign people to pick the money in the behalf

@@TheDemouchetsREACT I would like to answer this question. This video was the traditional wedding. The bride was just making an entrance before the proper traditional marriage ceremony starts.
The white wedding is usually done on a different day. And most likely in a church.
I am a Ghanaian and we do almost the same thing as our brothers and sisters from Nigeria.
We have our traditional marriage before the white wedding. Some choose to have it on the same day ie traditional marriage in the early morning followed by the white wedding where a pastor officiates. But many do them on different days.

A lot of African were asking a lot of questions and most African countries are trying to copy Nigerian style of wedding without giving Nigerians credit. Nowadays it’s called African wedding or Ghanaian wedding. Pls you can say you are their brothers or sisters but say things how it is and give respect from what you guys took from Nigeria. It’s really frustrating for Nigeria. Watch Ghanaian old video of your wedding on UA-cam and see how you did your wedding and Nigerian old video has always been rich and full of style in their wedding. Pls for-once give Nigeria what is due to me. Doing the white wedding the next day was started by Nigerian too.

Nigerians and Ghanaians go really big on the traditional weddings. This is usually a more important ceremony than the white wedding. A bride may have 6 outfits for the same day!

But the traditional ceremony symbolises many things: the coming together of two families, paying bride price- symbolising that the man can take care of the woman and not selling her as has been understood by the West. The two ceremonies are held on two separate days

Your wife was dancing to the Oja,what you call the flute. That is deep,in the Igbo culture the Oja is symbolic. It takes you to listen and connect to it deeply to express it.

Oja is used in special occasions according to the Igbo culture,to dignity or reel out praise to a highly esteemed person or to express a dirge when a significant person does. But the catch to the depth is for each occasion the melody is different and it takes you to connect to it and express it's symbolism.
@@Lighted_Path God bless. Thanks for the explanation. The Igbo flute is dying out in Jamaica. Mento is no longer around and we only use it around Christmas times in a festival called Jonkunu. It's definitely a part of Igbo culture that survives (barely) in Jamaica today.

Did you just say Igbo wedding? If you are not rich as Igbo, you can't throw this kind of party. When it comes to wedding, bro, give it to Yoruba. Wether Yoruba are rich or poor, they always throw up the best parties. You know y'all don't come close to Yoruba in that aspect.
This traditional igbo wedding called igbankwu( wine carrying) bride went round to welcome her inlaws and guest, then her mother came to greet, the brides mum usually is much celebrated on such occasions. Bride changes dress comes out to collect a cup of palm wine to present to her husband, she has to search for him and other young men will try to get her to drink the wine for fun, when she finds the groom, she would kneel to show humility, takes a sip to show acceptance and then presents it to the groom who then drinks it all or sips and gives to his kinsman if he choses then they both go to meet her father, to kneel and recieve blessings, if the father is late a father figure in her family can stand in. Gifts are exchanged by both families, then party till you are cant

Wedding in Nigeria is an industry on it own.
This is Igbo traditional marriage reception. It's always colourful and the bride usually choose her bridal train from friends and family which may consist of different age groups if she wishes. The dancers don't drink any shayo, rather they do constant practice.

This was the entrance, but you actually didn't get to see the actual traditional ceremony and what the bride and groom actually does which gives it all meaning. I'm Igbo by tribe, although a born and raised Londoner. The traditional marriage is waaaay more than what you got to see in this video.

Just watch Flavour's Ada Ada music video and you will see what happens in an igbo wedding. What you see here is just an entrance not the real deal.
And before this, there would have been meetings between the two families introducing each other, asking for the woman’s hand in marriage, the families investigating each other, acceptance of the proposal, gift giving to the in-laws and setting of the marriage date. What you usually see on UA-cam is the finale.

And we have same-colour or same fabric groups depending on what the family chose for their well-wishers present.

Believe it or not, when holding events in Igboland, we appease the rainmakers to hold the rain so the event day is sure to be sunny and bright.
Everybody do not bring their own wine. The groom takes care and provides all the food and drinks for everyone.

Regarding the spraying of money, I just want to say that people also give gifts of cash to the couple to help them as they start life together, but the sprayed cash is also for the couple. Guests aren't allowed to touch the money. Usually, one or two ( trusted/trustworthy) people are assigned the task of picking up the cash, organising it and later handing it over to the couple.
Right becuase who gone be pocketing the money other than the couple. No body lol

The thing is that, generally anyone saying Africa usually they focus much on either South Africa or Nigeria. now people are covering more on Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt and maybe there may be some other countries but usually when westerners say they are doing something on Africa they usually revolve around these countries. I'm Malawian and there are other countries like Algeria,Burkina Faco, DRC, Tchad, Rwanda and Botwana that are sidelined. Malawi is one of those sidelined countries. Even our African Music awards mostly nominate from SA or Nigeria and some Tanzanian artists so I Don't know why things are like that. But you guys I know you're trying and you're doing great and i love my Nigerian brothers and sisters they're amazing, just a suggestion to try to cover other countries if u can.

As a gabonese woman thats Fang (my ethnic group) our tradition wedding ceremonies are a bit like this. each familly wears a different print and fabric (they can be what ever as long as we can differenciate the 2 families). and they will sit opposite eachother.
it usually starts with the husbands familly asking again to marry the daughter, there is banter back forth as well as gift given to the familly, money, drinks, alcohol, etc whatever really the more the better.
the wedding party is mostly family and close friends. the woman escort you sheilding you from your husband but not you family until you get in front of him. you would traditional dance as well to show off your cultural heritage. will be handed off to her husband and their family. the the dowry gets accepted. then the bride goes to change in a formal outfit. they get blessed then the party can start.

In the past, igbos were presented as a tribe. But with modern anthropology and studies, that notion has since changed. The late famed novelist, and historian, Chinue Achebe, described the igbos as a nation and not a tribe. The Igbos who number about 50 to 60 million people are NOT only found in Nigeria. They are also indegenous Igbos in Cameroon. Gabon, Equtorial Guinea etc. This whole tribe over nation debate was a deliberate attempt by the early British colonial masters to limit Igbo numbers than what it actually was as a means to easily purge the "rebellious Igbo nature." They're historical documents to buttress this occurrence.
That being, you should kindly react to the Obi Cubana mother's (lgbo)funeral that went on weeks in which 348 cows, about a thousand rams, goats, chickens etc.were slaughtered for the celebration. They went from spraying money to throwing money bundles at dancers and the man himself. People had suitcases(l repeat, suitcases) of money which they emptied only to return with more suitcases. Those coral beads the bride is wearing are very expensive. Mainly because the Western world stopped people getting corals any more so to find real coral, it is like pearls. Many people tend to hire it for the traditional wedding ceremony.
It is always a source of pride for the mother to see her son or daughter get married - mostly it is done in the bride's home (or due to number of guests, a venue picked by the bride's family).
It is essentially for the groom's family to come to request for the hand of the woman. Once, accepted, they get blessed by the family.
This was how marriages were really done in the bible - not white wedding as we see these days. Before once the family has given blessings, you are recognised as husband and wife. No papers exchanged. If you separate, it the family that gets involved to resolve it or conclude it is over. Due to government rules and courts, most people have two weddings, the registry or church or Islamic religious wedding that will provide written marriage license.
