- Install Panel Mount Neutrik TRS Jacks in your pedal board. This will clean up the appearance of your board, make it more reliable, and less chance of a wire pulling out while you are playing.
The parts you will need will be the panel mount TRS/TRS jacks and the gasket (optional). The TRS stands for Tip, Ring, Sleeve. This is what makes up the plug end on your guitar cable. Here are the links to buy these products.
amzn.to/2inuajb --TRS/TS Panel Mount Jacks (Not Redco) but will also work
You will need a drill, a drill bit, a hole saw bit, and some sheet metal screws.

I am really interested in doing this but keep reading about the need to ground or isolate the jacks to eliminate ground loops and humming. This is just for an "input/output" thing. Have you had any issues?
Hello Eric. No, I haven't had a problem with humming or any noise at all for that matter.
I have had massive ground loop issues in my pedal rack using these TRS to TRS connectors - I am going to confirm by dissecting it over the weekend but I strongly suspect it is because I am using those rubber D-series gaskets (preventing the connector housing from touching the metal panel) as well as not removing the rubber grommets which sit under the little set-screws on the side of the connectors. Apparently these are grounding screws and you remove the tiny grommet underneath and replace the screws to ground it. Anyone confirmed this before I try it?
Step 1: TAKE OFF ALL YOUR PEDALS & CABLES
Step 2: Get a ruler, some masking tape, and a pencil.
Step 3: Measure the height, put the jack in the middle, tape those rubber disc thingies to the metal, where the drill holes line-up your mark it with the pencil.
Step 4: Get a powerdrill, drill the holes while somebody is holding the board down, and go slow.
Step 5: Better results.
Nice move, drilling with the pedals attached....you live dangerously!
That was cool. I looking into doing something similar on my pedaltrain nano plus. You gave me some additional ideas. Much appreciated. Great Demo! Would like to hear how the pedal board sound plugged in....
If your main holes are off center it's not "too late". Simply enlarge one of the holes a little to give some wiggle room, so the jacks can be lined up properly, before drilling the screw holes. For example, if one Jack sits too low, drill out a little extra material on the upper side of the hole. Use a rotary tool for this. Also with the screw holes so close to the edge of the main hole, you don't have a lot of room to work with so this will only help.make minor adjustments. Best to use a ruler to get it as close as possible on the first try. Measure and mark with a pen first then make your pilot hole (punch mark).
Just the right info at the right time. Tyvm
Good video Jake, but 1:58 "You wanna eyeball it" - lesson learned there.
Ruler > eyeballs
Yeah, that was me being lazy.
Great job man, enjoyed it!
Good video and I hope you've discovered rulers by now! Remember your 1/16" comment! The red and white jacks would look a bit better, and provide better finger access, if they were a bit farther apart.
Awesome man. Exact video I have been looking for. Do you have one for the power source that goes under the board? Not the brick but that 120 plug thing ?
Cool video and idea. I just did this but have TERRIBLE buzzing with the Redco connectors. I tested them with just the guitar plugged straight through one into the amp and the buzz is there - to the point I can't tolerate it. HOWEVER - when I plug the guitar straight into the effects but use the connectors to go out of the effects to the amp and also the effects loop, no buzz. Any thoughts?
Where did you get the rubber gasket things?
I have one of these Jacks on my Gibson Les Paul bloody hate it. Wish I could put a regular jack on it.
Can this be done to a metro16?
Hello is it ok if i plug ts into it?
where did you find Neutrik TRS Input Jacks ??
Nice video, i am from Colombia and i want to buy a pair of jacks. Are you sure that dont make noise?
Mine makes no noise or hum. Some people have said they have a problem.
best way for getting ground loops...;-)
How could this cause ground loops and what would be a better way of doing it?
Has anyone managed to pull this off on a metro or nano style pedaltrain? I'm not sure if there is enough height on these boards
Different components .. here's one on a nano, I believe - ua-cam.com/video/g91vXNkJpZ8/v-deo.html
Can’t believe he drilled the board, with all the pedals still on it.
Me either.
That's what I would, and will do. Fuck taking them all off, too much work.
What's the size of the bit that was used to punch a hole for the jack installation?
I used a 7/8" hole saw bit. But you can use a center punch or a scratch awl to punch an indentation in the metal to start the drill bit.
Great vid! Could you maybe post a link for the drill hole thing you used? This would be 👏 😎 awesome!
No inputs ? Do you still plug your guitar straight into a pedal ?
+NoDirectionHomeMTL --> Yes. I plug it into the tuner. I will eventually add an input jack...

What kind of jacks are those and where did you get them?
If you are looking for that same exact jack, you can go to redco.com and look for the Redco PM-TRS/TRS panel mount jack. Or the ones I refer to on Amazon are pretty good also. Thanks for watching...
Thanks!!
Are there just tip sleeve jacks for this. Guitar stuff doesn't use TRS?
Arie Papernick doesn’t matter. If you plug in a TS into it, it’ll work. It just doesn’t have anything attached to the ring.
I would probably have removed the pedals first
5 seconds into your video it won't play for me 🤷♂️
So... how not to do it.
I just used the same hole saw didn’t realize it’s for wood and not metal made the holes I cut look bad on my pedalboard.
