- WJAR NBC10 | Warwick, RI | Live coverage of the first Concorde landing at TF Green Airport on Monday June 13, 1988. This is the coverage as it happend starting with the WJAR Sunrise show with Frank Coletta, Art Lake, and Tony "Spy in the Sky" DiBiasio. Bob Ward was live on the scene at TF Green Airport for this first ever arrival of a British Airways Concorde SST aircraft.
I was honored to be a passenger on the flight from T.F. Green (PVD) to JFK that day. It was a highlight of my travel agent career so many years ago. So happy channel 10 captured it . Such a wonderful memory.
I was up in the tower on the catwalk watching it.
Wow. Just goes to show how much Concorde is loved! Thanks for posting!
Amazing aeroplane. Flew on it a couple of times. Brilliant
The homage she so richly deserves.
Thank you for posting this!! I showed my grandfather this who is Tony DiBiasio, he loved it. He told me all about how he saw the plane come in and he was able to see inside it. He always told me how he was popular and what he did for a living so i searched his name and this popped up I can't believe it. Thanks again
I remember your grandfather as the eye in the sky.
Those people will remember that for the rest of their lives
‘City officials…tried to stop the arrival [of Concorde]’
- those city officials are likely now dead, having achieved nothing of note in their entire lives and remembered by nobody. Meanwhile, Concorde continues to be marvelled at, talked about in reverential tones and remembered fondly.
Wow, this happened on my birthday, although this happened 15 years before I was born. Still, Concorde is the most beautiful and iconic plane in aviation history, and the 20th century.
Stunning
You obviously didn't see the whole clip or don't know what a marvel the Concorde was. This was the one and only time that the Concorde was in Rhode Island, in New England for that matter. TF Green Airport is not that big of an airport because it is a state airport. The Concorde's mere presence at the airport was a success.
I was born that day!!
D M me too! :)
I miss the year 1988.
I love this. I was there covering this for WICH-AM in Norwich, CT. This brings back great memories of that day. Also got to go on the plane for a look.
A marvellous sight. Pity the commentator wouldn’t shut up with his inanities
Used to see British Airways fleet on a daily basis landing at London-Heathrow, departure was around 10.15 am and return at 5.15 pm.
Sadly, this is no more, and we are worse off for it.
I remember this. We had an 8th grade trip to Rocky Point, if I remember correctly.
SST was never a term regularly used for Concorde. SST was Boeings ill fated attempt at a supersonic aircraft.
I was in 4th grade at this time in RI. We tried to see it in East Providence.
VALLEE'S Steak House. Talk about memories.
Very nice to see this.
Bob Ward seems a top chap too!
This is cool 😎
Nice broadcast tv 👍🏻for the history of aviation
The reasons the reporter In this news footage gave of why the concord had to stop flying varifies all the things I learned about in watching various documentaries & videos explaining why many people didn't like it anymore.
Everybody loved Concorde
don't take this video off your the only one that has Concorde landing it Rhode Island
I lived in NY near JFK and would see this plane 2x/day fly low over my house. VERY LOUD!
I come from the future in the year 2024 and there is still no supersonic plane equal to or better, as it was
Concord.
And I'm sure you won't believe me, greetings.-
More Swan than seagull 😉
It’s not ‘the’ Concorde it’s just Concorde btw
Well noticed.....
Frank Coletta has aged in 22 years, though done so quite well.
That is so cool. I wish I remembered this, I was only 7 at the time. Do you guys think the Concord or a newer version will ever be back in service?
Nothing like Concord will ever exist. Something similar maybe
ty for this video. any idea if they filmed the take off?
That's my home State
"God what a time" / (and place), *NOT SO LONG AGO* when young men & boys still 'dream'pt', built models, & had interest in hobbies, *and were enamored by such things ... and after that: "imagination did the rest". TODAY: (amid a total disinterest in such things), It's some "silly phone" / (or a tablet) that ALL long to have , ... SO: (as young College Engineer's number few), this setting has made a total "about face".
Maybe Rush Limbaugh WAS right: "Tattoo removal and texting & cell-phone withdraw clinics, will be the No. 1 professions in the "dumbed-down-society". This was a GREAT-CLIP, and were it to occur TODAY, *I'd be RIGHT-THERE ! "LOL". :- )
Where is Green? I used to see it every day from my garden in London
T.F.(Theodore Francis) Green Airport, now Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport is in the city of Warwick, Rhode Island, 10 miles south of Providence, RI. USA.
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Branniff also operated them
A firetruck is way louder when it passes by and that goes on almost all day, the noise the concorde makes is seconds and twice a month...What a shame
It is Warrick - not Warwick
Hard landing.....anyone know who was Captain ?
When Britain and France work together watch out 🇬🇧🤝🇫🇷
No MI
fRANK
Then why are you here....
I don't understand why people make a big deal about the concorde landing! Chill out..!
You must be fun at parties.
Because it is an engineering marvel.
I remember this. We had an 8th grade trip to Rocky Point, if I remember correctly.
