Hendrix was asked in an interview how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world. He just shrugged and said: "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher"! 😊
@@johnnywires943 not everything has to be so definitive. Hendrix might be the best for you, but not for me. His catalog is awesome, but it fell off greatly toward the end. Gilmour laid down some of his best work at the end of the actual original Pink Floyd lineup, "The Wall" is David at his best, vocals and guitar.
All politics and personal issues aside, without co-founder, guitarist & songwriter, Syd Barrett, David Gilmore's guitar playing, lead vocals & songwriting, co-founder Roger Waters' lyrics, bass playing & songwriting, Richard Wright's keyboards & backing vocals, and Nick Mason's drumming, there would not have been the musical group, Pink Floyd. You can go back and forth about who's better than that musician and this one is better than that one, etc., but each member played a mostly equal roll to make them one of the best, innovative and most recognized Rock groups of their time and ours! Like most successful musical groups, their creativeness and inspirational songwriting for the very most part, was a group effort. And in my opinion, I believe their 3 record albums that best represented their work, overall, were 'Dark Side of The Moon,' 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall.' "Keep on Rockin' in The Free World..."
Anyone else think David was being kind of passive aggressive when he mentioned Roger was doing his Wall tour and he himself was working on new music? Like him subtly saying that Roger is stuck in the past.
Hmmm; I'd never thought about the question of which band was the best. I'm 72 yo and lived through he entirety of both bands existence and beyond and I'd have to say that Beatles are the best because of classic song writing and their impact on social consciousness, including politically and their amazing concentration of talent in each individual. That said, if I had to choose one band to spend 3 years in isolation on a deserted island alone listening to, it would be Pink Floyd, hands down. I've spent literally years of my life laying on my living room floor spacing and tripping out on their music and coming out of the session renewed.
Gilmour left the past and moved forwards with new material, even if that was every 10 years in between his new projects. Roger did nothing after Amused to Death album. He repeats the old stuff in tours with new band members and new awsome shows. However his last project, DSOTM Redoux, is a big NO! Very disappointed as a huge fan for the past 50 years.
The interveiwer didn't pick up on David saying.. I dont think of my life as Pink Floyd trying politely to stop talking about things that happened decades ago. Its like talking to Paul or Ringo about Beatles Beatles Beatles... That was then, this is now.
There is no going back......and there is no best band between the Beatles and Floyd. Totally different time periods and even tools used to create their music. Both were fantastic.... it, admittingly....I listen to a lot more Floyd than I do or ever have the Beatles.
I swear Dave must get so sick of being asked about Pink Floyd and Roger even though it was a big part of his life but it's in the past and I think that's where he wants it to stay
All things considered, nobody can rival the Beatles and they are the one band that they compare themselves with. That being said, Pink Floyd continued in the 70’s what the Beatles created in the 60’s. Both bands cannot truly be compared to any others.

The bridge was burned between them. Now after years and being old, they have a cordial communication. Remember that pink floyd brand is owned by david and nick. Back then roger kicked out richard, then "hired him" just for playing keyboard. After the final cut album roger said this is finish. Then david noticed that PF brand was in limbo and took it with nick and david "did not included" richard. Roger was pissed off. Wanted to kill the brand, couldnt do it and all hell broke lose with david.

'You are humble' "Very" - Does saying 'very' cancel the humility? I love how he states the Beatles were the best. All very subjective of course. Amazing guy. Sure the world would love a reunion. I saw Waters do the whole 'Dark Side of the Moon' show around fifteen years ago. Amazing. Saw Robert Plant about ten years ago and he was remarkably generous with the Led Zep songs. At our age (and theirs) we take what live experiences they still offer and feel lucky to have them.
Gilmour slips here, he usually is the master of passive aggressiveness, under a false sense of humility, but still the waters haters will still miss the slip ups

The establishment of Israel was a very flawed affair and it was never rectified. It should have been corrected immediately! This is not the way things work. If the foundation of a building is not resilient, then sooner or later it will collapse.... - Covering one's ears, closing one's eyes and singing lalala does not change reality! If we want to solve the Palestine problem once and for all, Israel must shrink significantly and a state for the Palestinian Arabs must finally be created on at least 50% of the territory. 1850: 4% jews, 1919: 10%, 1944: 32%. It was a veritable Invasion of jewish immigrants in a very short time and even if the UN partition plan of 1947 had been implemented Israel would have gotten 56% of the Land regardless of jews being the minority. But even worse from 1948 onwards they occupied 78 % (!) of the Land... It should never have been allowed to stay that way, yet the UN did nothing... By now it's 88%.. We all have an innate sense of fairness and Justice. The status of permanent crisis and war will remain, if fairness will not finally be applied. It is a highly pathological situation, this cannot be allowed to continue. It has had highly destructive effects on the whole world, right from the start. The UN must finally intervene decisively: Stop the willful ignorance, stop the unnecessary suffering. This problem must be solved NOW. This obvious injustice pathologizes both Israelis and palestinian arabs.

David could say so many harsh things about Roger and no one on Earth would blame him, but he is still as kind and gracious as can be. He is true class. Love this guy!
He lets Yoko Samson pretend to be him on twitter. Lol
@@northvilletunnels You also think Suzanne DeYoung is the Yoko of Styx. Dennis had his wife and children on the road with him when Styx were at their pinnacle. David has Polly with him for stability.
I listen to Pink Floyd daily. David is by far the best guitar player of all time. I am in my late 60's. No other band has come close. David is the voice of Pink Floyd. They may not get along now but they made beautiful music together!! ❤
I would say David is one of the most graceful guitarists of all time; not the greatest, as he has even commented in an earlier interview.
So you would have David above Hendrix?I dont think so.
Hendrix was asked in an interview how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world. He just shrugged and said: "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher"! 😊
@@RonnieSpam He was a humble guy.I would have SRV,Van Halen above Dave and a few others.
One of my all time favorite guitarist ❤
Anyone else think David was being kind of passive aggressive when he mentioned Roger was doing his Wall tour and he himself was working on new music? Like him subtly saying that Roger is stuck in the past.
Yes, it's all an act.
Yes usually hes the master of hiding his passive aggressiveness
What a band they were from Meddle to The Wall. Possibly the greatest group of all time
"You're humble"
"Very"
As a HUGE Beatles fan I have to admit that DSOTM is the greatest album in modern history. But… The Beatles are #1. (IMHO)
I swear Dave must get so sick of being asked about Pink Floyd and Roger even though it was a big part of his life but it's in the past and I think that's where he wants it to stay
"You're humble"
"Very"
LOL!
This was the WORST interviewer.
All things considered, nobody can rival the Beatles and they are the one band that they compare themselves with. That being said, Pink Floyd continued in the 70’s what the Beatles created in the 60’s. Both bands cannot truly be compared to any others.
The Beatles ARE the best. Right answer David. Really, the only answer.
Beatles are a pop band, is there one decent guitar solo in any of their songs? I never heard one
@@pulsarlights2825
Beatles are the most important band in the history of music, and it's not even close.
@@Dagger-Deep Important, how do you measure that objectively? Is that an opinion or a fact?
@@pulsarlights2825
Have you been hiding under a rock? I'm not even a big fan or anything, but just about every major artist mentions the importance of the Beatles. Let's not even get started on their album sales....
@@Dagger-Deep Your not really answering my question, you keep referring to other's opinions, popularity, sales..etc...I am asking specifically what they did that is "IMPORTANT" and what metric you use to measure that..
Waters is prickly, but he’s honest and you always know where you stand with him. I think Dave can be passive aggressive and knows how to torque up Roger. I think Dave is a tremendously good guitar player, but the creative force was always Roger. Roger was the creator and Dave the purveyor.
Pink Floyd did not come to be until David joined the band.
@@caseD5150they had multiple hits when Syd Barret was the lead
@@caseD5150 That is false. Pink Floyd "came to be" with Barrett, and when Gilmour joined they struggled for some years.
"The Beatles are the best". This was sometime between 2010-2013. Unfortunately there has been a falling out recently when David called Roger and antisemite.
Pot calling the kettle black as David supports the Not-SEE's ruling Ukraine.
Actually Polly called Roger antisemite, David just agreed
This must have been before Polly's message with David backing her up regarding Roger. I'm sure that ended any type or relationship they had left after that.
I wouldn't be surprised if David doesn't even know he has a twitter account and it's operated by his wife.. kinda sad really
'Sent Roger an email... that was fun...' yeah, I bet... 😉
"You're humble?"
Very 😂
Please. Please. One more show. John Paul Jones to sit in for Rick.
Nah man it ain't right without Rick 😔
Dave Gilmour one of the best guitarists in the world!! ♥️
Yes he's the best guitarist ever
He was a great guitarist, just one of many in a time of many great guitarists
No he is still the worlds greatest guitarist and his voice is second to none.
He's the most humble person ever, and he'd be the first to admit it.
Waters suffers from being the Great I am... Dave doesn't have that problem. Waters comes off as such an egomaniac its sickening. I've never gotten that energy from Gilmore. I dont wonder why they cant gel
"And if the band you're in stars playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon..." :(
Not only one of the greatest musician on the planet, also one of the nicest down to earth person in the business
David is so humbled person all the time , my here ,i love u david
"You are humble" "very"
sounds like a boast
nice one from david for paying Rick the respect he deserves.
I've noticed that when it comes to Pink Floyd questions, David has become........................dare I say it??????.... Comfortably numb.
Ha Ha
Guess who numbed him!
So sad to hear him say "Ricks dead." WTF is this life that goes by in 5 seconds all about, sometimes I wonder.
Cool David slipped in a zinger when he said that Roger is having fun living in the pass, while I'm writing new songs and expanding. Good on you Mr. Gilmore.
Yes, all completely unmemorable and with lyrics written by his wife.
Not the case anymore with Mr. GILMOUR! He is history, thnx Polly!
“Beatles are the best”……he’s right and an easy question to answer but I get more dopamine pleasure from Pink Floyd…..😊
He doesn't sit there and ponder the past and prefers to create new music 👍
Its gracious of him to answer these inane questions which he undoubtedly gets asked All the bloody time 😒
Who DOES sit around moaning about what's gone before . A thing that can never be undone . Just move forward
He's great & didn't put any negative reviews out there & yes he's got class!
Not if depends on Gilmour's wife...
This is an old interview. Shot when Roger was on his Wall Tour. This was before their huge public battle.
This interview is NOT RECENT. This was conducted years ago.
"youre humble"
" *very* "
💀💀💀💀
Roger is a great talent, but there is only so much anyone can tolerate of him. 😶
Agreed! But, all members of Pink Floyd are great talents. That is why the band was so successful, not just because of one man.
David has been answering the same damn questions for 20 years. Come on.
Although his usually hidden passive aggressiveness is very obvious here
Nobody does a shirtless 'Echos' guitar solo like David Gilmour in Pompeii 1972. ❤ They are all Pea Green with envy. Much love and respect sir. ❤
THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON REDUX !! Che ne pensi? 😖😖😖😖😖😖
This was years ago. Not sure why it was posted 4 months ago
Ever the humble, courteous man. Bravo to Mr Gilmour to keeping it above board, with class and dignity. Will always be a fan of this guy and these interviews only reinforce that belief.
He did manage to slip in a little snide remark there. Roger is still doing his Wall thing. I've been doing new music etc etc. A nicely handled barb.
It's the Cambridge upbringing. Waters is far more Wuuurkin Claaase.
@@napadave58 lovely 👌

Gilmour is the introvert businessman while Waters is the extravert musician.
What absurd questions!
Notice immediately after he was asked if Pink Floyd was the best band ever then the Beatles, he nodded yes, thought about it then said "Oh the Beatles were the best" and gave that classic Gilmour smile. He still has that little devil inside that made him into one of the world's greatest guitarists.
Syd Baret is more Pink Floyd than Waters. Gilmore/Waters. Bruce Lee/ Chuck Norris. Messy/ Ronaldo Rossi/Mark........ different people got different ways/skills/ideas. Both are brilliant in their own way. With Roger Pink Floyd was brilliantly dark, with Gilmore Pink Floyd was brilliantly light. None is better ....it's a matter of opinion and preference. I prefer the light and sweetness Gilmore gives pf but I also very much enjoy the final cut, laying in the dark, eyes closed wondering how I will make ends meet. Depends on my mood. Sometimes just a little pin prick is enough and sometimes I scroll through 13 channels of shit on my tv. U can stay and wright poems on your black book or join me on the turning away u crazy diamond. So gentleman let us set our differences aside and together drink a toast on the pink Floyd u prefer. Roger or Gilmore, doesn't matter, what matter is us, the pink Floyd crazy s
Pink Floyd was the 2 Rogers. They interviewed Keith's standin? The legal system gave the name of the band to the stand in?!? This is just off the wall.
Maybe im wrong, I was born in 77 and grew up hearing Pink Floyd as well as old Genesis. I think David Gilmore is much better than Roger Walters.
And Peter Gabriel has a much better voice than Phil Collins.
'You are humble'
"Very" - Does saying 'very' cancel the humility? I love how he states the Beatles were the best. All very subjective of course. Amazing guy.
Sure the world would love a reunion. I saw Waters do the whole 'Dark Side of the Moon' show around fifteen years ago. Amazing.
Saw Robert Plant about ten years ago and he was remarkably generous with the Led Zep songs.
At our age (and theirs) we take what live experiences they still offer and feel lucky to have them.

Bebe is well known for being a pretty shit journalist. But upon seeing your name, I guess you already know this!
Pink Floyd is history now, deal with it. The end. Gilmour is always a class act.
You can always count on David and Roger to stir up the "old coals" any time they do an interview 😂.
No you can't the interviewers always ask the same question
Gilmour slips here, he usually is the master of passive aggressiveness, under a false sense of humility, but still the waters haters will still miss the slip ups
Pink Floyd and Roger Waters are a music legacy! J.
Waters was an ego maniac and David was lazy. They had a good ride, but nothing last forever.
Every band needs someone to "get things done". This always leads to the later accusations of bully, manipulator, or "ego maniac". Bands are often a very toxic place.

THE SAME THING HAPPENED IN THE BEATLES
JOHN LENNON WAS VERY LAZY
(AND ACCORDING TO ALL OF HIS BEST FRIENDS THEY USED TO SAY THAT JOHN LENNON WAS A LAZY BASTARD AND THAT ALL HE WANTED TO DO,
WAS LAY IN BED ALL DAY AND DO NOTHING)
WHEN THE BEATLES MANAGER
BRIAN SAMUEL EPSTEIN DIED OF AN
ACUTE COMBINED ACCIDENTAL DRUG INTOXICATION-
(BARBITURATES AND ALCOHOL)
IN AUGUST 27,1967
THE BEATLES WERE LEFT WITH NO MANAGER AND BECAUSE NONE OF THE OTHER BEATLES WERE VERY INTERESTED IN DOING MUCH OF ANYTHING
IN THE VACUUM OF BRAIN EPSTEIN’S DEATH SINCE NONE OF THE OTHER BEATLES GAVE A RATS ASS ABOUT WHAT THE BEATLES WERE GOING TO DO NEXT
PAUL MCCARTNEY TOOK THE RHEINS OF RESPONSIBILITY OF TAKING CONTROL OF THE HELM OF THE BEATLES AND BECAME THE BEATLES “DE-FACTO MANAGER”
BECAUSE NONE OF THE OTHER BEATLES WANTED TO ANYTHING SO PAUL STARTED WRITING MANY SONGS AND PROGRAMS PROJECTS FOR THE BEATLES TO TAKE ON SO THEY WOULD STAY BUSY AND OCCUPIED.
SO BECAUSE PAUL WAS THE ONLY BEATLE THAT HAD THE AMBITION DRIVE AND
INCLINATION TO DO ANYTHING AT ALL
CONSTRUCTIVE
ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAME THE TYRANT DICTATOR AND BOSS MANAGER THAT THE OTHER BEATLES LOVED TO TALK NEGATIVELY STRONGLY ABOUT AND OBJECTED TO,BUT IF PAUL HADN’T HAD HIS HEAD TOGETHER UNLIKE HIS BANDMATES THAT WERE NOT DOING ANYTHING AT ALL AND JUST LALLYGAGGING AROUND
ALL JOHN WANTED TO DO WAS LAY IN BED ALL DAY READING THE NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES ,
ALL GEORGE WANTED TO DO WAS DELVE DEEPER INTO RAVI SHANKAR’S TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION LEARNING HOW TO PLAY THE SITAR AND HINDU MYSTICISM AND PHILOSOPHY
AND ALL RINGO WANTED TO DO STARE AT HIS WIFE MAUREEN WHILE HAVING A BOWL OF CORNFLAKES IN HIS KITCHEN
It is Gilmour who is the egomaniac here!
That’s not the truth at all. They both worked hard. They have different perceptions as to what is important in music. Roger thinks writing lyrics is the important part. David thinks everything is important.
If you weren't able to see the interviewer, you would think that he was 10 years old. God ....these questions are childish and stupid.
I'm doing new music and Roger is doing his Wall thing.......lmao.
Simply not true:
