James May FIXED IT

- Our model train saga finally comes to a close, with James May and Mike Fernie putting caution to the wind to get the 50-year-old train running. Be prepared for plenty shouting, swearing and lubrication.

Um, what link? There are plenty of links but none of them goes to a poll
*Cough cough* show the motorbikes *cough cough*
Truly enjoyable. Would love to see James work on older motorcycles.

Next episode: James May fixes BBCs Top Gear
Jim Bob I don’t think anyone can fix that anymore 😂😂
Nope thats done beyond repair
maybe fixing Lego Top Gear Racing Car with BuWizz and older Lego Engines
Doesn't need fixing, even James May himself said Top Gear is "almost as good as us"
@@aaronm1246 May is very polite.
Top gear: COME WATCH OUR SHOW GUYS!
Everyone: That's alright we'd rather watch James May fix a model train.
@Иван Ангелов Evil People.
Watching someone mend a model train for 40 minutes can only be interesting with James May
40 minutes? You must have missed the earlier installments.
we must be somewhere near 2:30 by now...
@@VascoCC95 I'm not complaining either! I'd actually love a follow-up showing the building and running of a full train set-up. Wonder if Richard or Jeremy do model building?
@@jeandiatasmith4512 I was not complaining, I was giving you even more reason, I do agree with you!
About the other 2 blokes: the only hobby I now they all share in common is sitting in the pub for a pint and arguing nonsense about something not important. Richard and May both like bikes but in different ways. I think that its good that they separate work from this video version of they being themselves. I see no point in mixing them in other context other than Top Gear / Grand Tour...
You should watch his previous series on BBC, "The Re-assembler". It's exactly like this.
There is definitely a market on UA-cam for James May building models
Just james doing anything that would otherise be slightly boring
I don't think I've ever seen Mr. Slowly get more upset than when Mike said sandpaper @4:00. And I've seen him throw a rock at Clarkson
Came to the comments looking for this 😂
Who wouldn't want to throw rocks at him for some snarky remark? There are very few Australians that would not throw rocks at Jeremy.
FEERRRNIEEEEE!!!!!
@@ReclinedPhysicist technically it was because Jeremy hit the back of his car while James was standing in front of said car. So there was more of a reason.
Rock or dildo
Incredible how much care James gives about someone's else's family heirloom. One of my favorite videos of all time.
favourite*
That truly was special. A LOT probably don't get it but guys inheriting a toy or ?? that their father owned and probably played with IS something truly special. My father had an old Lionel O scale (I think, whichever is the HUGE one) that I haven't been able to get my hands on because my mother won't let anything go. I haven't seen it for easily 55 years.
@@JohnyG29 favorite in America units
He cares about making videoes to promote Drivetribe, which he has invested a lot of money in. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
For James this is ZEN ... and he can "lecture on quite esoteric stuff" too.
This is why we need another season of The Re-assembler.
Beautiful work Bim!
Hey Bim!
Guess What?
@@ldx8492 it's 4pm, Bim!
Bim! I got it!
The ladies are going wild over this content.
Clean tweezers on trousers, I do that with my kitchen knives.
I mean, James May with a goatee. His sex appeal went up 2.5%
Sploosh!
they're hot for James May - Richard Hammond.
Absolutely (y). It´s James after all.
This trilogy is better than the latest Star Wars films.
Makes a lot more sense anyway.
Better character development. May has a beard.
Adverts for toilet rolls are better than the latest Star wars film.
It's better than all the Star Wars films.
Making a better trilogy is no hassle really. But this is brilliant.
This is proper meditation. In this age of fast-moving streams of content, it’s just so nice and relaxing to watch some slow-paced, nerdy videos of someone rebuilding something. More of that, please!
Me: "My desires are unconventional"
My GF: "Show me"
Me: *Presses play"
Finally i can sleep at night now many nights ive tossed and turned not knowing if james fixed it.
UA-cam search bar must be sick of me always looking for this episode
The Matrix trilogy's got nothing on this...the tension...the drama!
We will pretty much watch James doing anything he's interested in.
It's amazing that James May can take something that would normally bore anybody to sleep and keep me on the edge of my seat with it for 3 episodes.
James is calm and relaxed. Watching James work on a model train was great. Talking and making sure the other dude knew what he was doing. It’s pure bliss.
James May is so funny. I can see how he would drive Clarkson crazy with his next level nerdyness.
I can now see why james gets the shits with jeremy and hammond when they dont do stuff properly. Hes such a perfectionist, i love it!
Just picturing James May as the next Doctor. He'd spend his whole time trying to "fix" the TARDIS so that it ran smoothly and silently.
yup and Hammond as the companion
@@whizadree And Clarkson as a Dalek armed with a hammer!
Would that make Jeremy "The Master"?
I would absolutely watch that.
I love the attention to detail and the in-depth breakdown of everything from James. Superb
When you think bout it, James is a Genius ;)
All these years I had never noticed the wheels on a steam locomotive were offset a quarter turn between sides. Learned something new.
Those model trains always have a very specific old electric model train toy smell. I love it
Watching James reassemble something is never a waste of time.
I would find it cool if u were to visit old repair shops with James such as a shop for repairing old cameras or watches and then talk to the technicians about their tools and tricks etc.
I can picture it now.
TV announcer: "You're watching 'Interesting Tunels and Bridges' on BBC Old. Up next, 'Tools of the Trade' with James May"
Every youth in the room: *groan*
Me: "Oh, lovely"
Like The Repair Shop (where they dont give away the trade secrets)
In Estonia you will be lucky if you can find a proper watchmaker who can make parts for old watches, I have a Swiss Emperor watch that needs a new spring for the date change and no one can repair it, the day changes but not the date. It would be nice to have it working properly. I need the Repair Shop, as on BBC, but it's a long way to go.
40:10 Thanks for fixing my train James, now can you replace the screen on my iPhone!
I was expecting the train to go off, you could see it coming
James mays comments section full of only love and no hate, on youtube that is rare. It shows how much this man is loved. Literally.
Love the NSR! The Rothmans livery has to be one of the coolest liveries ever.
James: You can do this bit
Also James: Proceeds to do it himself
Proper dad showing you stuff mode
Perfect bed time viewing the soothing James may
G Willis yes I’m watching in bed 😂
I could see Adam Savage sitting next to him during a project like this...
I want to see the two of them work on a project together
I've always said they should team up it would be epic on another level.
Yes! Love Adam and all of his amazing builds.
I'm not sure why, but there is a satisfaction in seeing all the care that Dr. May takes with all the fiddly bits and the eventual success.
7:51 what I used to do is get a broken ballpen and roll it between the edges of the faces of the commutator in order to make them less sharp. This also greatly reduces the sparks created when running the motor.
James may looks like he uses one of those belt clip phone holders
Hey, they're extremely practical, and James is a practical man.
@@Metal-Possum have you heard of pockets?
@@christofferjeffers8460 Yes, but things fall out of pockets. James May doesn't waste time with such nonsense.
Mike Fernie revealing he's 25 but looks 35 was a highlight lol..
Been told I'm 25 going on 55.
@Mag Me too!!!
@@mikedrivetribe8314 Ouch - thats harsh!
He lost his hair that’s why
I was wondering how this guy could have ever held that train in his hands if its been in the attic since the 60's, he can't be that old 😂
I wish James May only did this. Like a kind of podcast, but instead he reassembles stuff. It is so calming and soothing. I have watched the reassembler once, but by now, I have listened to is 2 times during work, just because I like to listen to him. More reassembling please!
So when did James May become my favorite of the three?
Agreed! And with James May: Our man in Japan behind me he's just absolutely my favorite. The orangutan has his moments for sure, and the hamster has always been up there, but Captain Slow is for sure my top man in the trio now!
Probably the wine adventure with tv's Oz Clarke?!
Amazing sound clarity. You could hear James's digestive system groaning.
In stereo
Really wish y’all would do more content like this. I love it
Well since James has no interest in a train layout, I think its settled. We need a series of videos on building a train layout.
Watching James cleaning or explaining things could quite possibly be the most therapeutic things in existence.
I absolutely love the y11 sport moto guzzi in the back ground. Can u do a tour of James bikes
Agree
Excellent idea! I couldn't stop looking at the bikes.
that NSR 500 is cool too... a bike tour would be amazing
Not his garage. Though I'd like to see them too
Will Kinkade (or anyone else), what are all those bikes in the background? I think I spot a Honda Cub & NSR 250, A Donnington Norton, an FZR Yamaha (EXUP?), the Guzzi, some sort of 1960's Honda Dream & "various others". James definately needs to do a tour of his bikes.
im 17 and ive just spent 1hr and a half watching two middle aged men fixed a model train
I love my life
Welcome to lockdown.
I never regret watching videos with James in. He always has interesting conversation and that is why watching his content is brilliant.
The very definition of “Slow TV” and its great!
I love these vids from James. Shows that Jeremy and Richard were serious when they took the piss out of him. he really was the opposite of Jezza
YAS!!! this afternoon is a snow storm here in Vermont,
so excited to watch this!!!
Good afternoon!
Just imagine Clarkson sitting next to James ?... ha in a throwaway society its great that we still have those with patience and love to mend .
Surgeons.
Patience*. Hospitals have patients!
We know what he would say... "Just hit it with a hammer".
Hey Bim, guess what ?
"Master James"
"Touch me ! Touch me !"
Superb trio of videos! Well done James & Mike, great to see some proper British engineering working again..
I really enjoy these shows. It reminds me of watching my dad work on things. I can do this type of thing myself as well (since I used to watch my dad work on things), but there's something special about these videos.
Good job on the locomotive repair! 29:17 Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean? Excellent taste, Mr. May!
That NSR in the background is effin' awesome. Please do a vid on that. Just run it for a bit please!
Noooooo the V11 is much more classy even though it is not a LeMan Rosso Corsa version. A vid on doing a big guzzi twin service is a must, and James can explain why Moto Guzzi thought it was a good idea to use a cartridge oil filter, but put within the sump!
@@grahamariss2111 yeahnah 2-stroke!
I was thinking the same. Looks a gorgeous machine 😍
Spent the whole video staring at it, absolutely beautiful machine
WHAT HE SAID ALL CAPS OVER
The beard makes James look like that guy on Ancient Aliens.
The reason why this train was in the attic since 1960's: ALIENS!
Wow! Is it safe admitting one knows what he looks like?
No, it doesn’t.
@@mortechrome Google "David Childress"
Nicholas Ward I know who he is, seen a few episodes. The beard is similar but the similarity ends there for me😚
SPOTTED in the background: James's scooter from TG's Vietnam Special! Nice to know he's kept it
I need to know more about Mays motorcycle collections. That Rothmans Honda is amazing.
I never realized that James May was so young.
4:05 exactly my reaction. 🤣 Loved it!
That Motorbike with the Williams design is awesome
So glad James is taking a break and getting to work on stuff he enjoys :D
James' collection of bikes is amazing!
Skipping to the end for the best bit and then watching again from the start
The reverberation at the bunker is absolutely beautiful!
James, it’s midnight eastern time and I’m watching because I’m really enjoying this. Great to see you fix this little train.
I’ve been looking forward to this far more than seems reasonable
Please do a video on James’ watch collection.
Love this guy and all the times he's worked trains into his shows (Man Lab, Toy Stories, Top Toys etc). Was sad when he was not the one riding the Tornado during the Race to the North episode of Top Gear.
Brilliant. I could watch these for ages. Thanks
Great stuff JAMES May you really do have a level of patience way above the average guy. And you have made this restoration on an Hornsby 00 very interesting, thank you
I'd love to see Airfix builds, I come from a family of Airfix nerds 👍
i would love to see the Flying Scottsman with realistic chuffing sound makes its return on DRIVE TRIBE
there is it seems no end to this mans intellect and skills.. so glad he has done so many shows..
"hello stoners!" xD
😁🙋🏿♂
Bro AHAHAH YES
Definitely more especially trains and a layout.
I'm quite happy to watch any of these types of videos. It's therapeutic to watch James mend things and listen to him and Mike converse.
The plywood work bench top is stamped MADE IN ITALY on the front edge, stamped in blue paint
I love your Honda cub in green in the background I just recently found a green one just the frame and forks but I love that original colour.
That's a Honda C50 they weren't called a cub. My Dad had one.
Can we get a video about your watch collection?
Can we please get a video or videos of James talking about his motorcycles please? He is the best. Him discussing the history and fun facts is so comforting. He's the funniest of the OG 3 in my opinion.
I have been strangely excited for this. Didn't even have a model train as a kid.
Thank you for the therapeutic video lads.
It's a shame James doesn't have any children. He would have been an amazing dad.
Richard and Jeremy can shove it. Listening to James explain how things work is kinda relaxing. What a beautiful brain that man has.
Fabulous little series... Much enjoyment.
Amazing! This series not just entertaining and informative but will save you money. I used to subscribe to Calm to help me sleep. Now I play this and before James has finished pondering his first sentence I'm gently pushing out my first snore. Well done
I love James May :)
Who doesn't? Greetings from Estonia!
He's everybodies granddad, isn't he?
I thought this was the new episode of James May: The Reassembler
"i'm ready for brush insertion" - I wouldn't be bragging about that James! 🤣😂
I'd love to have a learning experience like this from James may. Honestly learnt so much from this series. Fantastic work fellas.
Can we have a tour of all James’s bikes?
Clarkson: "Does anyone have a gun please?"
No? Ok where's the hammer?
genuinely envious of this "father son moment"...
Loved the adventure of James trying to mend a piece of toy history! Have confidence James, there are others that love fiddling with trains, legos, air-fix etc. Thanks for the fun in the shop
Next episode: James May fixes iphone.
;-)
And yeas please do a layout!! :-)
imagine clarkson doing this
*where is my hammer?*
The poor model train would be going to model train heaven once the hammer is used.

LOVE THIS SERIES... BRING IT ALL TO THIS CHANNEL
Excellent restoration, the nice thing about stuff from this era is that it was made very simple without too many parts that can go wrong. Glad to see it run again
lol thats some class A mechanics ASMR XD
I was really hoping for "Hello, again Stoners"
Great job! That was a lot of work. Glad they got it working!
I can not overstate how much I have enjoyed this content.
