This is superb racing - the variety of cars, the characters driving them, the open and interesting state of the track, the endless permutations and everyone trying to find the best way to do the same thing best - "The brakes are on fire but it's not a problem!" - a classic line! :-)
Amazing for another competitor ( Andrew Harris ) to give up his car ( for Dick Johnson ) and Andrew Harris to step into a car he has never driven before and join the great race, true sportsmanship. Today nothing like that would happen! The other teams would simply say oh well one less competitor to worry about making it easier for us.
Hazleton's Capri crashed in pretty much the same spot as Tony Roberts in a GTHO Falcon in 1970 (not 69 as Evan Green said, Roberts won in `69 in a Monaro with Colin Bond). And it was the same spot where John English took a chunk out of the concrete wall with his XD Falcon in 1984. Not a good spot for the Fords.....
Anyone notice the elephant in the room? George Fury must have overtaken Brock at some stage around lap 93 or so and no one said anything. There was a mention earlier that Fury was lapping faster than anyone else.
Hardly an elephant in the room. Fury was lapping for Pride. Brock was racing for the win. By lap 93 the race was Brock’s to lose. He only had to keep circulating to secure the win. In 1981 the role was reversed. After 05 lost 8 laps it then ran the rest of the race 2-3 seconds a lap quicker than anybody else ... because there was no point ‘conserving’ the car.

nothing serious lol
🥝✔️ One of the best races. My first full Bathurst Barmitsavh, IIRC as a 13 year old.
This is so much easier and interesting watching than modern day coverage. No leaderboard aways taking up half the screen. Cripes, what happened.

Absolutely Right Mate
Sad to see Yoshimi Katayama passed away earlier this year. He had a pretty good innings though
rip mr katayama
Didn't know that! RIP Yoshimi! Will always be remembered in Mazda's rotary race history
Great stuff, how the hell did the Laurie Hazelton Capri end up on the wall?
How good did all these cars sound. Today's rule makers should go back and watch some of this stuff

The cows must think its judgement day.
Cannot believe how amateurish the officials were in those days no safety cars and no pit crew fire protection
A different race now with safety cars
Wasnt the camero bb
Today they would have forced Moffat in with that rubber hanging from the top of the windscreen like that
Absolutely..regulating the hell out of touring car racing these days.
