Truly one of the greatest races ever!!!! Modern Bathurst racing does LITTLE for me!! The 90,s Bathurst racing are BEST. I was at the 1999 race live to see Dick Johnson in his last race, AWESOME SIMPLY AWESOME anyone who has not been, should, it is a once in a lifetime experience!!!! Car 18 DJR lead most of the way, about 15 laps from the finish a flat front tire, next we see Paul Radisich feeding horses up mountain straight, ALL OVER, F--K man I was ABSOLUTELY GUTTED!!!! I am a Ford fan, always will be until the day i die! Greg Murphy Wynns/Kmart Commodore won. So close to a Ford win!!!!
1:04:54 I did some laps around Bathurst in the late seventies (at a guess) in the last of the 265 Valliant's, forget speed limits, I couldn't even break em until skyline. Then it really blew the socks off with tyres howling and constant braking down to forest elbow with it's reverse camber. Watching it on telly took on a whole new demention after that. I think the modern coverage does limit the speed but mostly the steepness of the circuit. What a track.
Man, Neil Crompton has had rotten luck in his racing career. The only thing I ever recall seeing him win was the 1994 James Hardie 12 Hour... And that’s all. He never won 1 single ATCC / V8 Supercars race either.
People often dismiss Crompo’s driving record, for that exact reason. But like you said he had rotten luck. He had a shot of winning Bathurst 1992 with Anders Olofsson when he pitted for wets in the rain storm near the end, ultimately Jim crunching the GT-R on Conrod Straight put paid to that. 1997 the car was going well before the engine blew with Gardner driving. And in the normal series, he almost won at Gold Coast in 98 before a Watt’s linkage broke. Many of his rivals, Skaife, Gardner, Lowndes, Larkham etc all say the same thing, if it wasn’t for juggling his commentating duties with driving and he’d just focused on the latter, he could’ve won races.
That bit with Craig Lowndes was mint. I don't think jb ever got the credit he deserved. I don't think dick would have risen to the heights he did/has. No slouch by any means, but having a bearded, 4 eyed Tasmanian as co driver is a definite advantage.
This must have been a race of attrition because there were a great number of retirees. Pity Wayne Gardner was never able to add himself to the winners list, great race though.
1 h 36 min watch for Peter Brock having a massive crash into the wall driver error . Reminds everyone of Brock in Europe in the 86 ETC when he come of the track many times on several tracks.

That moment was the birth of a superstar.
MX6 Wasnt a bad little car in its day pretty hard to find now
1:52:20 Best moment of the race.
u mean 1:56:35? only a spastic would think it's 1:52:20
Remember when they tried to call Mountain Straight, holden hill?
Me neither and I was at this race.
Did Gardner spin on his own oil? Looks like his engine took a giant dump or threw a rod...🤔

Agree about Gardner. Seton also deserved a win. Fate had other ideas though 🤔
33:22 lol
Great start and finish of the race, middle was a bit boring though
1:36:27 Peter Perfect???
Days before too much carbon fibre and nascar parts!
