I first heard "Reason to Believe" by the Carpenters in August of 1970 when the "Close to You" album was released. Rod Stewart did a cover of it in July 1971. It's like night and day. THANK YOU, Karen and Richard. NO thanks, Rod. You don't even come close.
Absolutely. If she'd done her Solo Album in "Country", she may have pulled off a Win, even without Richard. Disco failed because it wasn't the style that showcased her extraordinary talents.
well of course... karen during her lifetime and since has and always will be considered one of the greatest singers male or female who ever lived... rod stewart? not so much....
Yes! I've heard 4 versions of this including Rod Stewart's and Karen's is the best .Tied for second is Glen Campbell's and the man who wrote the song. Rod Stewart's voice is not compatible with beautiful ballads ,love songs. It's harsh and only suited for rock
What a smile. She enjoys being behind those drums and the song is just great! What a voice!!!
Simply the best female pop singer of all time........
Karen brings that rich quality to the song and what a great drummer
one of the best, left us too early
Beautiful singing by Karen Carpenter
She didn't compose it. It is not by her. It is by Tim Hardin.

@@Coupydog If Karen went Country she would have gone #1. Such a beautiful voice for country music, and all other styles of music.
Karen's voice was heavenly.
Eat your heart out Rod Stewart... This is the way this song was ment to be sung.. No one can touch Karen's cover of it...
I heard this song as a kid before I ever heard Rod's, so I had no idea it was a cover. Even after all these years I prefer the Carpenters' version.
