Elton and Bernie were both enjoying this! And so was I! Superb rendition of this song, particularly impressed with the guitarist playing the low volume piano parts Elton would have played, but here transposed to the guitar. I thought that was both excellent and impressive!
Probably James way of returning the favor - Elton played some of the guitar parts in Nothing else matters on piano. It's also pretty similar to clean parts in The day that never comes, Fade to black and Call of Ktulu. Another detail - they played the ending very similar to how they play Fade to black live.
The more air pressure the better. Even though my car speakers are very shitty compared to my studio monitors, I always listen to this recording in my car to get the full experience of Rob's bass enhancing this song.
Damn good performance. They are really great musicians--they did this cover with genuine respect and love for Elton's original., they put their own distinctive touch on it. About as well-done cover as anyone could want---Elton took it all in like the musical genius he is, generous and appreciative for such great musicianship. His music lives on.
I did watch the whole concert and nobody came close to doing anything as amazing as this. Everyone else basically did a karaoke version of Eltons music, but metallica took 2 songs and wove them together and reimagined the songs in their own way.
Much as I love and adore Metallica's superb effort here, for me Jacob Lusk singing Bennie and The Jets was clearly the show stopper. His singing was on a higher artistic level than anything Metallica did in their cover. This coming from a dyed-in-the-wool Metallica fanboy who had never even heard of Jacob Lusk before.
This guy’s “reaction” video is the definition of a organic reaction video, especially for a Metallica cover video. He used the perfect words to paint a picture of how the performance would look describing it to a person thats not a Metallica fan 😂 excellent. 👏 he convinced me he actually listened to the song objectively and reacted not just to appease “metallica fans”. Bravo. Subbed.
" I'm glad Elton was actually present " ? It was the very prestigious 2024 Gershwin prize for musical achievement, from the library of congress in Washington DC also for Elton's genius lyricist Bernie Taupin. although there were raised eyebrows at their inclusion Metallica were actually invited by Elton himself
Lars gets a lot of crap, but he killed this. Rob was on point, his bass was outstanding. Cannot wait to see Metallica this weekend at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Metallica haven't written anything since 2008 that can hold a candle (in the wind) to this jaw dropping cover of an Elton John epic. It's perpetually open season on Lars's drumming skills but on this he absolutely powers the band through. James Hetfield absolutely commands that stage and for a guy that's 60, his voice has never sounded better than here. Glad you enjoyed this performance because I thought it absolutely rocked the place to the ground. As the band said way back in '83 'METAL UP YOUR ASS!'
Have you changed at all since you were 18-23?.... Or do you like exactly the same things still? just curious...... Funny how people have the tenacitity to say Lars isnt that good..He plays out of time.......The whole band plays out of time...on purpose
If was a Metallica song from the begining people would have been judge it according yo their oast. That's Metallicas fate but thankfully for those who do listen music , Metallica still remains great songwriters and albums like Hardwired and 72 including amazing songs . Personal opinion they can still release even better album than 72
These guys have their own level of greatness untouched by any other band / artist 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘

Not only Elton John but lyricist partner Bernie Taupin sitting right next to him. One of the greatest songwriting partners in all of music history.
Rob"s bass playing plays a big role in this performance, giving it a big sound. He facilitates that groove and thickness.

very great cover , excellent , I ve listened 3o times +
Bernie called Metallica the greatest band on the planet at the end of the show. I would have to agree with him
With all due respect to Bernie, I’ve been saying that for years.
Yep, they truly are the GOATs. They make every song sound so more powerful than everyone else.
@@Zapattack321 if u include Beatles aswell, with metalicca, I can agree

They aired this performance on PBS. Mind blowingly awesome!
Metallica knocked it out of the park! So cool to see their total reverence for Elton!! So much fun!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hopefully Metallica releases this cover!! Fricken NAILED it
Yup they sure did
Maybe this’ll convince them to make another album full of covers
Here is my problem... I have yet to watch the entire concert, but I cannot believe that anything topped this.
You would be right

Beautifully articulated review- I was a camera operator on this show n when it aired I couldn’t believe how well it turned out - superb!!
So glad you gave me the heads up on this one Philip! Beautiful choice for my first time reaction as well!
Absolutely great cover and reaction
Thank you
Epic cover
❤ AMAZING 👏
Kirk nailed it, along with everyone!! Great job!!!!
DAMN I never knew they covered this song !! Hell yah !!!!!
Metallica rules. I’m black and loved these guys since the 80s. They’re the best cover band on the planet. I don’t say that lightly.
True
what has color on ur skin to do with liking Metallica? Rock is black music , thanks to the legends like Berry, fats domino etc
❤

@@davidpearson6346That guy has not listened to 1 song off of 72 seasons or hardwired just like most Metallica haters
I disagree 100% but we all must remember music is art and art is subjective. Seasons is great and hardwired was very good.

Neither has Elton in decades for that matter.

Rob...hios bass ios hard. no one gives him credit.
Now do "Bitch is Back" from the same concert. 2024 Gershwin Award. Billy Porter!
COOL ! 🤘METALLICA в наши сердцах и душах.❤
