She's literally a professional vocalist, songwriter and just entertainer in general. It's all she's done since she was a small girl.

I can't think of another woman who could have covered this better, nor another man, for that matter. The fact that Metallica played this with her shows the respect they have for her chops. Loved this in every way.

Omg as someone who likes a lot of her songs I would tell her don't do rock covers because it sounds bad. If she covers any genre other than her normal genre it has to be country. I don't even think i dislike her as a person any more as much as i used to in the past! She clearly has changed drastically in the last 5-6 years and these changes made her way more interesting person than she ever used to be! She matured up, cut all the bs and basically transformed into completely different person! And i like now what i am seeing! Ever since she changed her image drastically, stopped singing bubble gum crap pop and cut all the nonsense regarding her piblic behavior - she became way way more likeable!
Hey I’m a hardcore Metallica fan and I have to say Miley has an amazing voice and can sing whatever she wants to! Metallica put it out there for anyone to cover any song off the black album. Proceeds went to charity. It was amazing. This interview also has a heartfelt part where the Elton John praises Metallica and this song. It almost brought hetfield to tears.
I saw Metallica in concert 3 times, they were a big part of my teens and 20’s. I think this is amazing. Miley is amazing. I really like watching people discover and appreciate things that I love. Thank you for what you do 🙂
What's awesome about this performance, is that James takes a back seat and allows Miley to be front and centre. He doesn't need to inject himself into the song, but let's her have her moment while essentially performing as her backing band.
What’s underrated here is James ability to sing back up…he fuckin nailed every harmony to the note, played fantastic guitar…played the lead perfectly….oh, and also wrote all of it!!!
Not sure how long you have been a fan of Metallica but at one point around Puppets, he wanted to do just this. He just wanted to be the 2nd guitar player and do backup vocals when needed

I’m a huge Metallica fan… I love the fact that they’ll team up with Miley Cyrus Lady Gaga, the symphony, Lou Reed, etc… the result aren’t always great, but they’re out there trying different things and enjoying creativity.

We can't stop and frankly most of her hip-hop era was vapid BS with the sole propose of excluding herself from Disney (which I dont blame her for) but her musical talents were not on full display back then. It was really when She is Coming came out that things REALLY took off and even some of her Dead Pets album (like Karen dont be sad) showed she had some artistic ambition even if the whole album was a bit of a mess. Her artistry, I think, was all fully realized in Plastic hearts, which I think will only get more appreciation with time as more people re-discover her after the success of ESV.
I think Miley has a very strong deep voice and so it’s one of those you either like it or you don’t. I personally love Miley but i do get why some ppl aren’t fond of her tone or raspy vocals. Love your videos
I never thought I would ever want to hear anything of Miley Cyrus, she was just a shallow pop star to me, until my son sent me this link, and it blew me away. That was a few months ago, and I keep playing it about every week or so. was amazed at her vocal range, loved her low range at the start, then she opened it up, wow, , and the harmonies fitted so well. I was never a Miley fan. I liked maybe two songs of hers. Until her "Plastic hearts" album. Since then I listen to everything she releases and I love everything she puts out. I think that she finally found her voice and isn't afraid of experimenting and searching forward. I just can't recommend her art enough. You should deffinitely hear some more Miley.

People like to hate on them because they made it big, which is usually rock heads. Metallica is one of the best to ever do it and can still put on a show. Miley is absolutely a great talent and vocalist.
She made a decent one but she doesn’t stick to a genre enough to master it. Even her newest pop record isn’t even a good pop record as someone who listens to both genres. I hope on the next one she gets more rock producers so it’s not as polished.

One other comment. Miley obviously grew up around the music industry with her father being a major star. Then she started doing TV shows at an early age. But she's obviously got respect for legends of the music business.

You know, she DOES have tremendous talent and I think that after the fire evacuation her voice is better suited to rock with its deeper raspier sound. Plus, she doesn’t try to put the bubbly pop stamp on it. THAT ALONE should count for something too.
She has reinke's edema which multiple of her experiences could play into why she has it. The fire, her smoking, her fast life as a music without taking breaks or doing things to take care of the vocal cords/folds, etc. But honestly, it's enhanced her natural timbre. I'm glad she's leaned into that here and there and is fluid in how she wants things to be. So far, she's made great choices on technique for different songs like here. Glad she didn't go the pop technique route.

Often it comes from her Bangerz era (which was to break out of the Disney and on top of it, people were already over reading into things when she was with Disney and then judging her for it) as she did get wild and have fun...in ways many didn't like for various reasons. And they keep that against her no matter how much she's proven her talent and her growth. That and not many like pop so hearing a pop singer name, it's automatically downgraded no matter the fact that it's a great performance and good show of talent. It's sad people have to be judgemental, elitist, and close minded.

You know, she DOES have tremendous talent and I think that after the fire evacuation her voice is better suited to rock with its deeper raspier sound. Plus, she doesn’t try to put the bubbly pop stamp on it. THAT ALONE should count for something too.
She has reinke's edema which multiple of her experiences could play into why she has it. The fire, her smoking, her fast life as a music without taking breaks or doing things to take care of the vocal cords/folds, etc. But honestly, it's enhanced her natural timbre. I'm glad she's leaned into that here and there and is fluid in how she wants things to be. So far, she's made great choices on technique for different songs like here. Glad she didn't go the pop technique route.

Often it comes from her Bangerz era (which was to break out of the Disney and on top of it, people were already over reading into things when she was with Disney and then judging her for it) as she did get wild and have fun...in ways many didn't like for various reasons. And they keep that against her no matter how much she's proven her talent and her growth. That and not many like pop so hearing a pop singer name, it's automatically downgraded no matter the fact that it's a great performance and good show of talent. It's sad people have to be judgemental, elitist, and close minded.

I'm not one for listening to cover versions and I've never taken much notice of Miley Cyrus but this version is stunningly good. That girl has got some pipes and can really sing, and if Metallica thought she was good enough to play as her backing band that's good enough for me
