    30:00 May I ask which app are you using? I saw some demos like yours then have just bought R1. But the JamKoo on Android, for both phone and tablet, does not have screens like in your clip! And there is nowhere I can download and set new sound?! Regarding BLE, the reason I bought is because of it, but very disappointed, it has latency about half second on my new 700$ (I mean its processor is powerful enough and the phone should have enough performance to handle BLE though)!

    Nicely put together Gary, very informative. 😀

      Thanks Phil! Nice to do a review every now and then

    Very informative. I was surprised to see just a handful of sounds available when using my own wind synth, and they are all by subscription. Having a few free voices would let me try the app out.

      Glad it was helpful! - Yes an odd business model, certainly can see the premium sounds costing but the not so great sound fonts? - will have to try it with my Ewi one day

    Gary, let's just say it is moving to see someone willing to make such a long comprehensive video! We are glad to see how deep you actually dive into R1 without much assistance. Maybe some little tip: 1) if you find keys are not sensitive enough, try using a lower number for Key Sensitivity in Advanced. 2) In terms of BLE latency, it really depends on the device, especially for the smart mobile devices. 3) The JamKoo community feature is not yet optimized for overseas users, so everything may be slow now. 4) we have all accessories custom made by Protec, which include a premium travel bag that can buy separately. Anyway, great job!

      Thanks for the tips! Yes I have adjusted all of the sensitivity settings, may have missed a couple going through the settings quickly. Will definitely check out Protec, I often get traditional cases, like I have a nice Sop Sax case for my EWI. But great job also with the instrument so far, and will do a follow up video after some musical ones ... the Robkoo tends to go in my hiking music rig every time now!

      I would definitely get one of the soft mouthpiece were available: allowing for “biting” vibrato.

      @@DocBree13 Hi Brenda, if you wish to, we could actually arrange an additional payment and send it with your R1 order!

    I wish it was shorter and had a bite sensor. Really would want a small, portable EWI with full functionality - breath, bite, key delay, custom fingerings, and lots of keys for simulating a clarinet-like layout.

      I agree - unclear why in a digital body where the length itself does not impact the sound, it couldn't be just a little longer than the actual fingering zone. I think there are a few makers out there getting this message though!

    Hi Gary! Thanks for a very informative video. Is it possible to turn that flashing rainbow-coloured LED-light on the side of the instrument off? That LED-light makes the whole thing look like a toy.

    Thanks for sharing. While I always enjoy there being more electronic woodwinds, I feel like this product misses the mark in several areas, that being said, can totally be useful, just not the end all controller. Thanks again!

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  2 роки тому +2

      Yes definitely not an end all controller, I don't think it ever intends to be, but as an interestting accessible performance instrument I think it could be super useful - once there are more quality sounds!

      Also be very interested on where it 'misses' the mark - just as a reference

      @@GaryHayes primarily in the key layout and modulation options. It keeps it from being a contender as a full featured wind controller.

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  2 роки тому

      @@JeffHopkinsMusic yes I think really aimed at the traditional pipe flute player in terms of fingerings, as there are 'express' ones which use combos of the main keys. The actual control layout (underneath) is not too bad and comparable with the EWI in many respects. But yes modulation may develop more using the motion control I have been told with two dimensions up/down and left/right, offering MIDI cc outs - but that assumes you are happy to physically wave the instrument around! vs bite control.

      @@GaryHayes I will say it might be a decent education type instrument too... Just a shame they didn't throw a couple more pinky/trill key and another octave key on there.

    Is there is an update for the instrument? And how to check it? With the app? Thanks

    • @GaryHayes
      @GaryHayes  Рік тому

      Yes Jamkoo app will inform you of updates - which there have been several since this

  • @RolandTumble23

    Interesting. Definitely more than just a toy, but it does miss the mark in a few places, as Jeff Hopkins said. For me, the biggest of those are the accidental keys (simply adding a second set for the right pinky would go a long way toward fixing this), and the baked-in vibrato.
    This bears watching, but for now the Roland Aerophones rule the market segment (IMHO). I personally cannot STAND the EWI's "closed" breath pressure system, though I do like its capacitive keys.
