Totally cool. I spent MANY days with the grandparents growing up, and my Grandpa on my fathers side had a 32 Ford "bug" to plow the drive way.Big tractor tires, box of rocks where the trunk should be. He stopped it with the plow, as it needed brakes. Ah, the sixties. He is missed.
Great video! I'd like to see more of the "mechanics" involved in building one of these trucks. It's a lot of fun to watch, especially when the chains get tight like guitar strings. But the engine, transmission and final drive would be great to see too. I thought I heard a few flathead sixes.
Crazy all the comments here are saying they've never seen doodlebug pulls. This is the best kind of pulling, I wonder if it's more localized around CT?
I never saw anything like that. Those big wheelies are so dangerous….. they would never allow that in Connecticut in my neck of the woods……. Thanks for sharing. BTW I usually think of a doodlebug as a Model T or something not dump trucks …
used to have a chain hanging from bumper if it came off ground ya was done thats been long time ago though glad it still exists to cool used to know a few guys did it named reynolds might still do it truckers from way back
who thought this stuff up.it had to be a clutch disc & pressure plate manafacturer.easy money to start a sport that destroys a product you happen to build.
You watched a doodlebug pull. They take old trucks, cut them down and modify them to pull loads of 50,000 pounds or more .As for safety, I don't think OSHA was invited.
WHAT in the hillbilly HEAVEN is this??? New favorite type of pulling right here. This is amzing
Ain't it, though?
How have I been around pulling all my life, and in my 40 years never knew this existed?!
@Linkavich Chamofskee So would I!
Physics ,mechanics and timing= awesome fun
First Doodlebug pull I've ever seen and I've been watching 🚜 and 🚛 pulling for many years!!

This is like the automotive equivalent of curling.
That's an interesting viewpoint,

Sounds like what I think of when someone says doodlebug.
I remember watching doodle bug pulls when I was a kid in 1980-82 before we moved to Vermont.
I have never seen pulling like this before! Usually its a game of HP, traction and keeping your wheel speed UP, this is a whole new game!
It is certainly different.
This is cool so what’s the rules or more info on the club
I believe that the object is to pull three feet in five minutes. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
@@Trukluver so I’ve found a few other videos seems like it’s a northeastern thing really neat
Clubs in connecticut.
Never heard of a doodlebug pull. Love it!
Glad to hear it.
I hope to get my machine there pulling next year. I need to get back in the game!

Unfortunately, I don't get to go where the machines are being built or worked on.
The chain drive was standard in trucks when these were built.
I agree. I can't find any videos of someone wrenching on one. Would love to hear about the gear ratios and clutching.
Thats exactly how I tow my camper with my Prius.
In reverse? ;)
I'd like to get video of that.
i needed this laugh, wish we had cool stuff like this out west

I hope this gets more popular, they should do this at thresherees.
I thought this was awesome!!! Would like to see more of this!
This video is freaking awesome 👌👏🙌.
I'm glad you're liking it.
Thank you John. Crazy stuff. Fun to watch! 🙂
I agree.

When I hear the term doodlebug, I usually think of the Model T;s and Model A;s too, but these guys have a whole different twist on the idea.
Dump trucks during that era, had the chain drive system.

I think White trucks also
How far to they have to pull the sledge?
I believe a full pull is 36 inches.
Beautiful
Couldn't say it better myself
How do you know when you had a full pull
Ppl behind sled measuring. When sled stops before 3 foot pull the measuring starts all over till 3 consist feet pulled none stop

How did I get here ?
Well this looks like fun!
What is the meaning of these shenanigans?
Fun, pure fun.

I Wish That I Could See The Set Up.
Great Job!
Thank you
This is how they built the pyramids
I always wondered.
I'm surprised any chains popped
Why so many chain drives?
The chain drives give them extra gear reduction to get more power at the rear wheels. Broken chains are also easier to fix than broken differentials.
Standard drive train for truck built back then. Even found on large dump trucks.
Chain drive? Talk about old technology for trucks.
I think it was pretty much phased out in the early 50's except for some off road trucks.
This is crazy 🇺🇸💪
It sure is.
Merica
What in the world 🤣!
What in the name of safety did i just watch?🤪

Weird shit ! But cool
ALL FUN AND GAMES TIL SOMEONE GETS HURT
Haven't heard of anyone getting hurt yet. Could happen though, I guess.
Lol... Black Deuce
Wow. What a lot of fun. 👎
This is very boring to watch... wow
It's much better if you're there in person.
It looks like a serious beer drinking event that doesn't require alot of attention with cool background noise.
Can you say STUPID!
