Call me an old tradionalist, but the clash belongs at Daytona. Bud shootout, then the Gatorade duels, then qualifying, was an awesome way to lead up to Daytona 500.
Absolutely preach it. The clash sucks at the football field. It BELONGS at DAYTONA!!!!!!!!!
I too miss the old format leading up to the Daytona 500. Apparently it needed to change?
I understand bringing it to tracks or areas that do not get a race. But it doesn't need to be here again for a while. Go to the Rock, or Wilksboro or a track somewhere else
Yep I used to leave work at noon on the Thursday of the duals every year lol
Totally agree
Thank you for telling the truth about the trouble NASCAR is experiencing. The Clash was a total disaster. So was the coverage; especially the much hyped "Medal" presentation.
It was like watching my kids driving bumper cars at the carnival. How did Ty Gibbs get past the height rule for riding the bumper cars?
His grandpa operates the ride and gave him a pass lol
I always thought he looked like he is 10 years old
LMAO 🤣
Maybe it's because the vast majority of champion race car drivers are 5'9" or less. There are notable exceptions, but generally, short guys are by far the best drivers. Do you think Ty Gibbs is shorter than Mario? What are you going to do when Ty inevitably beats your favorite guy?
Richard Petty and all other old head racers called them door knobs cause that was as high as the came.
The only thing worse this weekend was flag football at the Pro Bowl.
The Chinese Spy Balloon shootdown drew a larger crowd and was more entertaining.
I haven't watched NFL for many years now, but I really laughed out loud when my dad told me about that...! Hilariously awful...!
There was a pro bowl? 😆
You forgot the Grammys, those awards are absolute jokes. Though I only pay attention to rock and metal.
@@ixclan1418 Well, they did have a tribute to Satan at the Grammy's, so there's that!
Alice Cooper did it better 40 years ago!
I agree - no more Clash in LA
I agree too
@@StartsWithALetter no, you're right, I go to Bristol, but sure I'm a clown because of your opinion that I can't afford to go 🤣 you're cute.
@@StartsWithALetter why would I, did I say, wow, that's a race I'd like to go too, did I say Bristol had great finishes? Nope, didn't say either. I guess I'm not entitled to my opinion, but your are yours, again, you're cute 😂 Have a great night ✌️
The Clash doesn't belong on short tracks, it belongs on the restrictor plate tracks of Daytona Beach. Always has been, always must & will be.
The Chinese Spy Balloon shootdown drew a larger crowd and was more entertaining.
NASCAR has become so unrecognizable is disgusting now. Kenny your the man! My late dad loved you to death back in your speed channel days!
Agree buddy.
Agreed.
The coliseum is a terrible idea. The track is too short and there’s only one real racing groove so not much actual passing.
Sadly it also showcases the current state of nascar which seems to be more excited about creating a WWE type event than actual racing
yup, what he said !
@@bugs5644 except for Kyle Busch….last place to 3rd.
There was plenty of passing. Old school way.
Agree with herman.
Nah, they too busy chasing the woke crowd. Diversity etc. F-Bubba Wallace and 23 racing for that shit move.
I live in L.A.. I didn't waste my time going to the Coliseum. We have a beautiful short track here in the area. Irwindale's 1/2 paved track. With great fans and reasonable prices. I had a few friends that went to the Clash and found out the beers were $17 for a can of beer. They were getting gouged on everything. We have a great super speedway that they will b e tearing down this year. I haven't been to that track in 10 years because They shut off all the drinking fountains and sold bottles of water for $5 in 107 degree heat. NASCAR has a captive audience when you go to the races, I know that because I have been going to the races for almost 60 years. I am done with being ripped off. I will patronize the tracks that families can afford to go to weekly.
Come to Talladega and get the garage pass... $3 for 16oz beer and $3 cheeseburgers. I think a bottle of water was a buck. We'd love to have you!!!
Why couldn't they come to some sort of agreement to just use Irwindale instead of bulldozing Auto Club into a Martinsville clone, I have no idea
@@ghettostreamlabs5724 but, but what is the markup on the garage pass? Basically aren't you still paying 5 bucks for water if you pay more to get a special pass? (cost added in the ticket price)
How many fans does Irwindale seat? And why would the LA media care about it?
@@ghettostreamlabs5724 True... Best NASCAR experience/value bar non.
The "halftime concert" wore me down Herman. Walked away and went to do something else. Came back halfway through the second segment and missed all those commercials I was supposed to have eyes on.
Nascar is insane in the brain with the horrific pre race
@@StartsWithALetter nascar shouldnt just be for the wealthy..
@@StartsWithALetter The show was live on TV. Who is the target audience, exactly, for a geriatric hip-hop "artist" that had a minor hit 30 years ago? I know the LA music scene is pretty pathetic these days, but still...
@@garyjackson3531 wiz khalifa had a hit song when he was 5 years old?
@@user-ed1yx2fq7l who??!
How true...it costs a lot of money to build the track AND THEN tear it down. I would think all of the money they spent at the coliseum they could have put into The Rock and North Wilksboro and go back to the roots of NASCAR. Thanks for your opinion Kenny! Not a huge crowd either...huge portion of seating covered in advertising.
I don't know if the Smith family is involved in this thing, but it is "on brand" They like a carnival.
Bruton built the dragstrip in Charlotte, beautiful track, but it's "4-wide" so basically two complete drag strips side-by-side. They race 4 cars at once 48,000 horsepower at once is life altering, but for racers, it's a shit-show. You have two Christmas trees, one for each two-lane drag strip, but have 4 cars pre-staging and staging. As a driver instead of concentrating on one tree and one opponent, you have to deal with three opponents as they stage. It's a circus. Bruton tore up his drag strip in Las Vegas to make it 4-wide as well.
Another thing, drag strips are supposed to be smooth and relatively bump free. Every track the Smiths own has a "crossover" tunnel that runs under the track at about half-track. A huge bump exactly where you don't want one. There's no legitimate reason for these tunnels. Every major league drag strip has a crossover bridge, and most of the time NHRA does a good job of simply directing foot traffic through the staging lanes, for those that don't want to climb.
Anyhow, sorry to rant. Bruton was great for NASCAR, but their involvement in drag racing is hit and miss.
They've made profit at both clashes in LA and they can't race in the snow.
I genuinely enjoyed the event last year. This year was a complete embarrassment. I turned it off with 40 laps left....
Without cautions,40 laps would've only been a couple of minutes!
Going back to North Wilkesboro is a positive step. Let’s have the clash there and the All Star Race at Rockingham. Will be greatly appreciated by old school fans like me. If Nascar wants to attract new fans, the FIRST thing to do is NOT alienate fans like me. If they keep doing this they’re done. I want to see Nascar respect the old school fans. Not holding my breath though. Unfortunately.
All star race sucks
NASCAR vacated its true roots. I am.62 years old and.sure.miss the good ole days.
too cold to have north wilkesboro in feb
North Wilkesboro should be a points race
They can't race in the snow.
Thank you Kenny Wallace! Finally someone connected with NASCAR is telling the truth.. I canceled my Sirius Xm. Tired of the Nascar promoters. They can’t admit when something is wrong. That was a horrible race! It should be an embarrassment to nascar.
It's almost as if the powers that be in NASCAR sit around and try to think of the worst possible ideas and then they follow through with them.
That's every single company and corporation in 2023. It's been the standard since like 2014 and it's only going to get worse once gen z takes leadership of everything. I dread those days more than these.
agree totally. Almost as if they ask themselves "how can we eliminate our existing fans?"
The racing sucks the drivers are like little girls and nascar is woke pandering to the left..its thay simple...bring actual men back not little girls and stop pandering ..
NASCAR seems to be more worried about how much money they're making than the enjoyment of the fans. But if they would simply do what the fans want, then the money would naturally follow. I just don't understand NASCAR's logic.
@@hawkgeoff They started that 30? years ago, when it was decided WE the old diehard fans were not quite sophisticated enough for them.
The wine & cheese set would bring in much more cash than the dirty people.
But it was only a fad for the elites & now we see the vacant seats & sky boxes.
Local short tracks like my money just fine & it's more fun anyhow.
Is 'Speed Weeks' even a thing anymore in Florida?
They only had to travel 37.5 miles total to complete the whole race, and even that took over 3-4 hours. Then
there was nearly a equal number of caution laps as race laps ran. I agree, Never Again.
I feel like a good chunk of Nascar's marketing brass are from the LA market and just want to have their show in town. The painful part is Irwindale Speedway is just down the street, a proper short track and it would have cost way less to roll in a few extra grandstands.
Omg this!!! Makes sense!
I like Irwindale nice track and the racing would be good. No way they could seat enough fans for this type of event
I'm one of those who stepped away (and the crowd goes 'okee dokee' 😁). From Wilkesboro to my home track, The Rock, I just grew weary of seeing the same 'ol follow the leader around the same looking (operative word being 'looking') tracks. I enjoyed being in the stands at Bristol to the GM suite at CMS. Not a huge fan of the playoff system, racing segments. Dunno, I just miss the old school racing, like when you were there. These days, I get my highlights from UA-cam and have settled in there. Sorry for the short novel. Thanks for sharing!
Rockingham and darlington are my two home tracks. I went to every rockingham race from when I was old enough to pay my own way and was sad the day they announced it wasn’t on the schedule anymore. I was pretty fortunate to get the opportunity to work at roush in the truck series from 06-09 and got to go to a lot of other tracks. But since rockingham I’ve just lost the passion for wanting to watch races from the stands. Made the trip up to martinsville for a race and went to darlington a few times. But since segment racing began it just isn’t racing anymore.
Agree, extended highlights UA-cam is my Nascar viewing
Different was when you had the fake bar show ,drawing numbers for the lineup the night before on tv.. that in itself was more entertaining than that race last night....
Hey It's a best seller 🥇
I'm in Wilkes and agree 100%. When we had the race back in the fall, it was amazing. Some folks were still trying to get into the track when the race was almost over. If NASCAR wants to find the answer, then they should open their eyes.
I think the biggest problem is the amount of cars that they've allowed to compete on such a small track at one time.
Go woke go broke! I miss the old days. I’m from the North Carolina mountains. Could here the cars at Hickory speedway from Moms house in the late 70s. Sure do miss the good ol days. Thanks Kenny.
I am really appalled how NASCAR has became, It has became politically and shamely. I remember when it was first televised on TV you were one of my best drivers that I rooted for. I'm getting to a point I'm getting tired of the dumb crap from NASCAR and the way they are running it I'm really starting to pull myself away. It's getting to the point I'm not into it anymore like I used to. Racing's been in my blood for many years My father was killed back in 1963 Winchester Indiana in Sprint car I race for 45 years small town racing but the more I watch NASCAR the more I see going downhill. That's my point That's my rant and I'm sticking to it. Thank you Wallace for your great racing career of NASCAR.
I don't mind them trying other tracks for the pre-season event unlike some people who think it should only be at Daytona. I too WANTED to enjoy it, but god damn was that just a total mess. It was like we were watching a demolition derby at the local short track. lol
Right there with ya. Surprised they did this twice honestly
I could definitely see how a Nascar event held at the coliseum would annoy the heck out of any traditionalist. It was my first time attending any Nascar event, and it was a great way for me personally to get exposed to the sport. It was definitely a great experience to hear the cars, smell the burning fuel, and be around nice and genuine people. With all that being said, I want to see these cars preform at their fullest capabilities! I can honestly say I've been hooked ever since watching it live, and now I'm looking forward to watching a race on a legitimate track. Can't wait to see it in person in 2 weeks in Fontana!
Racing at the coliseum is a huge success I don't know why they would stop it when it's drawing a great crowd. I'm old school and I'm fine with it.
You might wanna give Irwindale speedway a look, grass roots racing is awesome, and once a month they have the LKQ PICK A PART NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION! My 82 year old mother in law had never been to a racetrack and I was privileged to take her to her first event. She had the best time ever! She kept saying how much she wanted to drive lol !
I love this. Real, raw, live Kenny. Interruptions and all.
Totally agree. Living up to the "Keeping it real". heh.
Times do change and the LA is not a big watch for me. Seems that NASCAR is going the way of reality shows and trying to create situations and conflicts between drivers, maybe like wrestling in a way. Hero and villains. The speeds are not that bad, drivers are highly skilled, ( generally) and cars are reasonably safe so the danger isn’t anything near to a super speedway, well maybe not 100% fireproof yet 😮. Did I like it? In a word ‘meh’. Can’t hardly wait for Daytona. Just my opinion and thank you for posting your down to earth, straightforward videos. Keep on trucking.
I wish they would go to a new track every year and one that isn’t on the schedule in cup or xfinity. Go to some of these short tracks where more fans gets to see the stars that don’t normally get to do so. Nashville Fairgrounds type places and maybe that could even put some of these local tracks on the map also and nascar kinda do the “ back to our roots Busch Clash “
I miss Daytona. At least the driver's had a chance.
I love how Nascar is getting back to some short tracks. I'd like to see these boys come back to more short tracks. I know the facilities is a big deciding factor, but short track racing puts into a driver's hands. Get up on the wheel and make something happen
I’d like to know how the attendance compared to last year. From how it looked on TV, the stands seemed much less full than last year.
I pick "more empty" especially on viewership.
Definitely less full but by the end of it it was at least 3/4 full.
@@bigyodatheman They were probably giving tickets away after the race started. LOL!!!!
I definitely agree with your opinion. It was fun the first time around and the second time I didn't even bother watching it. I don't think they should race again at the coliseum.
Hey Kenny, you've got your fan club right there with you.
Thank you for speaking the truth about NASCAR Kenny. As a loyal, regular, NASCAR fan of more than 25 years, I feel the 1 million dollars spent to create the Colliseum race is a disrespectful waste of money. Can you imagine how far that money would go if NASCAR invested that in a different Short Track location each year and held The Clash at those locations? Now THAT would really be showing support for our local and beloved Short Tracks in our country. Are you listening NASCAR?!
That was an absolute gong, show the race, and the halftime entertainment
half time entertainment ? I guess i missed that !!!
@@DarrenShaw-ev5tb You are fortunate. I am still trying to un-see it.

The part everyone always seems to forget is the last few clash's at daytona were demolition derbies.
It’s just strange seeing that much HP and all that talent in a small venue, it was good once , like the Chastain pass , but once is enough 🏁🏁🏁
I am sure the attendance will be posted (if it hasn't already) but I thought I saw lot of empty seats, a lot.
@@timmannchicken They said it was a sellout, but much of the stadium was empty until later after qualifying. As short as the race is, why would you miss the heat races??? When we go to an NHRA we're there for all 3 days, from first pass to the last.
@@timmannchicken I was trying to introduce Nascar to a friend of mine. We settled in to watch the clash and he kept asking me why are all the seats empty?🤔
@@j.r.chance739 I am sure Daytona will be filled, but I do hope this season shows a growth in track attendance.
Props to you to trying to introduce NASCAR to someone. I feel like NASCAR is more about learning the personalities of the drivers/teams and seeing how that is played out on the track (like chess) (and not just watching 40 cars turn left for 3-4hrs). If they can get passed that part... it is great.
@@timmannchicken that's exactly right! It's about the strategies of 40 different teams doing what they can to win . I'm in an interracial marriage, my beautiful wife is Mexican (welcome to southern California) and she saw how much I love Nascar and she started watching it with me. I would try to explain some things to her and she'd tell me to shut up, that she's watching the race. My wife is a big fan of M&M's lol. So she picked Elliot Sadler to be her driver...... She loved Nascar until he left that ride and Kyle Busch took over lol, she didn't like him in her car! 🤣
Yep I gotta say it was an awesome first segment then the second segment became a game of bumper cars but hey they're all fighting for that 2 million! 😂
I can tell this season is gonna be wild Herman!! Can't wait for you to do all the coverage on it!
It's a 3 year deal according to Google. ESPN reporter talk to the general manager of LA Coliseum. When they originally put out the news about the 1st LA race
I said the same thing on Twitter and got attacked for it. I said it was cool last year cause it was new and never been done before. Did you see they just finished repaving Rockingham? Looks good too. I'm trying to read NASCARs mind right now lol.......Fresh repave, move the clash to the ROCK!
Didn't care for the halftime show but the racing was good.
I got off work and got home at lap 75 with 75 to go. They went to commercial, I switched to UA-cam, come back 15 mins later, they had completed 3 laps. And the commercials are just not bearable anymore. Commercial after commercial. It’s insane. When there are so many options with no commercials.
I was really psyched to see new England's own Ryan preece up there giving it to em'..the northeast has some great short tracks or I would love love to see the cup series @ slinger..just saying
Good call dude he's the only one that wasn't crashing his way to the front never touched anybody he should have won that race damn shame
Watching their so-called entertainment in between segments was like listening to someone scratch their fingernails on a chalkboard. I'm old I don't hip-hop but I do like good racing like used to be done at North Wilkesboro. I was fortunate to help Benny Parsons and Mark Garo on the pole day qualifying show on WFMX who use to be an exclusive broadcaster of the pole days until the networks saw a revenue stream. I was at Wikesboro the week after Alan Kulwiki was killed in the plane crash. But getting back to LA Coliseum crap. Looks like all the crowd for race must have gotten diverted to the Grammys. When are they going to learn that the crowd in California is too green-minded? Maybe if the cars were Tesla or Prius. I guess they could get going until their battery ran out. My opinion Nascar needs to quit wasting millions of dollars on an event that people out there don't want.
Wow 22 mph average speed is that a new record
If they decide to bring it back to Daytona, I'd love to see the 2003 format return. Previous Clash winners, previous year's pole winners. 2 segments, 50 laps, 10min break, 70 laps, under the lights, all for a big check and trophy at the end. I mean at this point, why not try it? Bring a band in to open the show, do 2-3 songs to get the crowd hyped. Let the fans vote on who to book for the pre-show. Make it a party.
Nah. The Clash has SUCKED at Daytona since its return.
Nice to see the family, Kenny 🤝
California native here it stunk and they should've stayed in Daytona
I was thrilled that Truex won! Like you, I thought it dragged on too long and frankly, if they don't go back to the Colesium, it would not break my heart. I also think they need to change the entertainment from rap stars being rude to NASCAR reporters to artists who know how to show appreciation for the opportunity for a nationwide audience. Snoop would have been 1,000% better than Whiz Khalifa.
At any rate, I appreciate NASCAR is trying to put on a good show. I, for one LOVE the Roval at Charlotte but would prefer more Saturday night races. Also, want fans in the stands?? Make the races (tickets, memorabilia, and food at the track) more affordable for working folks and families and stop local hotels from price gouging.
DAMN STRIAGHT I HAD TO TURN THAT SHIT OFF I CANT STAND BANGERS
I agree, when it cost us $50.00 to park a half mile away at Bristol 10 years ago we decided to stay home and watch. Pretty sad.
Thank you fer yer take on it!!!! Have fun down there!!
Nascar is doing a lot better now. Attendance was up last year. I don't want it gone and I'm old school. They are packing the coliseum, I don't think any way they should stop doing it. It's great for Nascar it's a huge success.
Hell, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the fix broke it, put it back like it was!
Next year they might only have 5,000 people show up and the cars are so equal The only way to pass is and knock somebody out of the way
Ah, never mind the cars, you got it going on with those grandkids. Wow you're a blessed man!
Short tracks are awesome you ain't rubbing you ain't racing. Great guest hosts
our local track has a rule called fail to tail, if you are any part of the wreck, you are sent to the rear, what do you think?
Love the format with the heat races and LCQ. Maybe we do this more and send some of these big names home when they unload junk. JMO
I like the fact they go to a quarter mile then a 2.5 mile superspeedway right after
Personally I'd rather see the clash at places like North wilkesboro or the Rock on a rotating basis same with the all star race.
Kenny,,, got to say that I love the way you just put it out there!!!!! I totally agree with you,,,, such a waste of money to produce this venue,,,, just glad that Dale Jr was instrumental in bring back North Wilkesboro,,,,, Hope all of you Wallace's enjoy your vacation there in Mexico!!!!!
The second half looked like a race at Bowman Gray. If it gets new eyes attracted to the sport, I can't complain about it.
The bullring in LA lol!
I'm tired of NASCAR doing all these gimmick races.
The Clash has always been a gimmick race.
The clash was brutal this year . It was tuff to watch
honestly, nostalgia aside for me, the clash wouldnt be too bad if everyone wasnt spinning out
The drama was through the roof. The racing was fun to watch. I enjoyed it and I’ve been watching since the 80s. Drivers Running out of gas was a lil black eye. But over all it was fun to watch.
No more race at the LA Coliseum. Bring back the old Daytona race week with the duel races. I grew up in LA and a big nascar fan went last year it was ok. Stayed home this time. Very disappointing.
Kenny, I believe they have a 3 year contract, but I would be surprised if they come back even with the contract. There has to be an option for them to get out that is probably cheaper then building that track every year. Rumor mill was saying North Wilksboro is a possibility for next year. Lets face it the stands were empty this year compared to last years sell out. I was disappointed. Guess we will see.
Ben Kennedy saw first-hand the magic that only Bowman Gray could produce. Only issue is that BGS is one of a kind and can't be replicated. Re-absorbing Rockingham & North wilkesboro is a great step in the right direction. I applaud his efforts.
Liking this better! Good camera work, no more talking in the 3rd person and it makes it somehow more genuine. Also love the kids.
But yes this race blows, please make it stop and bring it back to Daytona.
I don't think, I know you are Right!
I will also add, you can't make money off an adventure if you can't sell out half the venue. The money they put in may never be recooped.
It was to late. The concert made ir later. Stands weren't packed. To many cautions
Thanks Kenny for input. Fan here since 77 when I was 8. I did not watch this years race/exhibition whatever want to call it. Have no interest non points race and Harvick said it same for this particular but was agreeing the business as Nascar needs it. Even though sponsors along with underfunded teams go shake the head and OK. Thanks again for the video in someplace warm 🌴. Family is where it's at.
Well Herman myself Greg Moore Daryl Moore the whole bud Moore family and our friends here in Spartanburg hated the race. Greg has Helton on his radio show coming up next week and that question will be a big topic of the show. Hope your back on the radio show this year. You were great last year everyone thought. Greg will be calling you soon. Say yes buddy we all enjoyed.

The stadium races are great, I like the idea. They certainly can go to other stadiums, Bowman Grey, Stafford, theres plenty of venues to run at.
They should run it like those dirt races in St. Louis at the Edward Jones dome
I bet the World Series of Speed at New Smyrna gets higher attendance than the Bud Lite Shootout did. That was all about the LA tv market.
I really don't mind this track. I like the bumping and grinding. The cars don't get so stretched out. Seeing a car come from last to finish 3rd goes to show you can put on a good show. All in all its way better then the whole West Coast Swing where it is like watching paint dry.
However NASCAR please NO MORE concerts with freaks of nature in them!!🤣 Good grief you could probably get a local band for free to play just to have some TV time and would put on a better show then that!
I mean I watched it (ratings will reflect) but I didnt like it. If they ever do it again, more heat races. No more than 10-15 cars on track! Take it back to Daytona!
I think they need a race at North Wilkesboro in a points race every year
Being raised at Bowman Gray Stadium, I loved it. It would have been better if the bodies were sheet metal.
IMO......I also don't think they should run there again! NASCAR needs to stop wasting their money doing crap like this! Entertainment was so terrible I muted it. I don't want to listen to that s***!
A huge oversight to schedule this the same night as the Grammys! That could affect viewership and tickets sold!

@@beckyumphrey2626 The Grammy Awards are declining in ratings too ironically enough.
I can't agree more with you Kenny and I love your knowledge about racing I can't wait to get our dirt track season started our first race is at Bristol baby
I heard this could possibly be a points paying race in the 2024 season. Sense auto club is set to start renovating after the 2023 season.
I was there last night and it was the best race I’ve seen in person ever. Better than super speedway races. A great short track
No doubt in person, short tracks are the best place to watch a race, and Coliseum would be great to see in person.
That race sucked!!! I watched about 10 minutes and turned it off.
Brother I love see them little ones They can be as loud as they want! FAIMLY IS EVERYTHING!!!
I just assumed current clash was a placeholder for the NASCAR California Speedway when that becomes a short track raceway.
It's obvious they are trying to appeal to a larger crowd by going to Cali, including a rap concert, etc. But ironically that's what they DON'T want to do because in the end it will dilute the product. We've seen this over and over again with lots of products and commodities. Best plan of action is always to cater to YOUR audience and stay original.
I LOVE THE CLASH AT THE COLISEUM yes I live near the Los Angeles coliseum and I live it bcoz it grows the fanbase ( which is predominantly NBA fans ( coming from the daughter of one who happens to be a nascar fan )
