I can't even conjure up the ability to treasure him. I feel nearly numb, tired, and after teaching heresy for over 5 yrs, God showing me I'm not saved, everything I was believing was a lie, even feeling my lostness, separated from God, to come "up" from this place to believing I really am saved, to nearly two more yrs of heresy, to my eyes being opened for real to knowing what i taught and believed was all lie, spiraling so low and believing i was doomed to hell, to then making a terrible decision to live a lie, willfully knowing what i was doing, now so low, saying to God I don't want mercy on my life anymore due to an incredibly selfish reason... on and on it goes. My dreams filled with seemingly hopelessness to be saved, one again thinking I understood my dreams to realize i was doing what I did when I was teaching heresy and dreaming nearly every night and "interpreting" them wrongly....I have absolutely NO IDEA if I truly can be saved anymore? I keep asking for God to bring me to Jesus. To change my will. I can barely pray. does anyone have any insight?
As a little boy, I saw Our Father's Might, through a vision of His Own Giant Foot, pounding the ground through the clouds, and understood His ability to at any point could smash the World, just as He has done with the flood, Sodom and Gamora. So the fear of God has been with me ever since. With that said, I have understood we live more so under mercy, and appointed grace, but out of Love, The Father allows us to go as we please. However through Christ and restoration we can find Joy in Him in obedience to His sacrifice and Holy Word. God bless.
Amen Pastor Piper .. Treasure, not a just in case or something other than.. I've been listening to you for the last 2 days. I've heard you alot in ads even on here .. Hello, you already have the answers you need in your Bible, and you are more than capable of seeking to truth and finding it in there, or at least check what is says to what Piper is saying or at least what other people are saying. Piper believes that God only wants certain people called his Elect to be saved and then, God wants to glorify Himself by throwing the rest in eternal hell , called the reprobate.John 14 says The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus by taking what He has and gives it to us. There is no scripture that says God picks some for eternal life, or hell But it does say that God glorifies Himself by Jesus coming fulfilling the Law of Moses, and dying for the Sins of the World, that whosoever believes has eternal life. @@theresaread72 Hello, it’s very difficult for me to deny the doctrine of election, because it’s been written all over the texts in the scriptures. As of my understanding of the bible right now, I have understood that we humans do not have the ability to choose God on our own unless an intervening and gracious hand of God comes to our heart and change the heart of stone into the heart of flesh as it’s written in Ezkiel 36. And I believe that God does not force the reprobate to sin, but He leaves them to themselves. Because they are by nature the children of wrath, they sin. John 3, 6, and Romans 8 clearly state that by nature we are not able to choose God, we “cannot.” And sister it’s not like as people think God is ruthless to send people to hell, but surely I can tell you this - God is perfectly just to condemn all of human race on the day of judgment and send us all to hell. He owes us absolutely nothing. But, inspite of our disobedience,He planned to redeem us through His Son before the foundation of the world. “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)”, -Ephesians 2 : 5 So, sister I humbly urge you to dig deep through the scriptures and understand the sweetness of The Doctrine of Election. The more you understood the corruption of our heart and that we are incapable of choosing God by our own, the more you see and appreciate the gracious hand of God that changed your heart to come unto His kingdom. Thank you, I appreciate you for letting me know what you believe is true.
@@davegirma8935 Blessings! You asked me to return and to prove what I believe and other non Calvinists believe about the Bible. Soteriology101 UA-cam can explain what I have believed for 40 years as a pretty serious Bible student, bot that doesn’t mean I’m right. You List John 3, 6. Jesus says as Moses lifted up the snake in the Wilderness, Jesus would be lifted up. In Moses account, only the people who looked at the servant on the pole lived. Those who want to look at Jesus will live eternally, must look to Him with Faith and repentance. There is nothing effectual about it. GIF so loved the World that He gave His and Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the World to Condemn the World but that the World through Him shall be saved John 3:16,17. John 6 I’m assuming vs44 The Father giving people to the Son. Remember this is a turning point in History, the Jews knew Messiah was coming. The Father is now giving the Son, the Savior people, but remember, the Cross and resurrection has not happened yet. John 12 explains after the resurrection of Jesus He himself will draw all people to Himself, those who come to Him with Faith for eternal life those who refuse to come to him, damnation. As far as Ephesians 2, Calvinists believe that we are completely dead, punished for what Adam did, but manny places in Scripture God says he will not punish children for the Sins of the Fathers Ezekiel 18 and elsewhere. We don’t see that we are born incapable of responding to God’s gracious call to be reconciled to Him through Jesus. Romans 1 the Gospel is the power of God unto Salvation. We believed Jesus died for all, tasted death for Everyman. Thanks for listening to our side!
Man Dave, I have been wrestling with this topic too, and I've only recently found ONE sermon on Saving Faith that actually got it right 😢. It's a sermon by Sinclair Ferguson (just search Saving Faith Sinclair Ferguson). John Piper sounds good but I've listened to his "gospel" and it is wayyyyy off. He thinks our problem is not loving God so his idea of "Saving Faith" is treasure God. Our Problem is that we are sinners who are under the Wrath of God, and Jesus is returning as The Judge to judge the wicked... and You and I, we are ALL wicked, who apart from the restraining grace of God would be monsters. Saving Faith is trusting in Jesus and His Blood shed as our only Hope to be saved from the Wrath to Come, and in trusting in the blood of Jesus alone, we have perfect assurance In HIS BLOOD of salvation. People ADD two things to saving faith - believing the right things and doing the right things. But those flow FROM Saving Faith. I recall a story of someone walking down the street, hearing a street preacher say. You are a Sinner and You Need a Savior... and this man was immediately convicted of his sin, and knew the wrath of God was upon him and believed in this Savior to save him. He didn't know the right things, he had no knowledge of Jesus as God, nothing, but he was immediately converted and FROM that Saving Faith he believed the truth, and treasured Jesus as His only hope. The REASON Jesus is our treasure is because we are trusting (a present tense continuous reality) HIS BLOOD shed for sinners who are under the wrath of God apart from faith, but in faith are under the blood and no longer under wrath. John Piper does not believe this.
Praise Savior Jesus Christ. He is the Only Son of the Everlasting GOD and He is the Trinity GOD. His salvation is priceless treasure and endless blessing for Christians.
Christianity began as sun worship, the stories about Jesus are symbolic. He is just a personification of the sun, made into a god figure later on. "He cometh on clouds, and every eye shall see him", is just sun rays. Jesus' "crown of thorns" is just the sun's glare, also know as a halo. The sun enters into each sign of the zodiac at 30 degrees, hense, the "Sun of God" begins his ministry at "age" 30. The sun is hung on a cross or "crucified", which represents its passing through the equinoxes. The vernal equinox being Easter, at which time it is then resurrected. The reason why saviour myths are so similar with a godman who is crucified and resurrected, who does miracles and has 12 disciples, is that these stories were based on the movements of the sun through the heavens, an astrotheological development that can be found throughout the planet, because the sun and the 12 zodiac signs can be observed around the globe. In other words, Jesus Christ and all the others upon whom this character is predicated are personifications of the sun, and the Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun throug the heavens. .

“Saving faith is the echo of the emptiness of the soul looking away to the all sufficiently of Christ.” If he is merely totally competent to save then he is not yet treasured. A surgeon is not treasured who can save you but is otherwise disregarded. If he is not treasured above all else then our faith in him is not sufficient; something else competes, for only he is utterly sufficient. Indeed even my incapacity to look to him at all times is all the more reason to treasure him. In doing so I approach the maximum capacity with each act of reverence and awe.

(2 Timothy 4:8, ESV) Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
What do you all make of this from Turretin? Take note of the very last sentence of XVII: XVI. When John says, "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren" (1 Jn. 3:14), he teaches that love is a proof and sign of our justification from which we know that we have passed from death unto life. For he who is in love is in God (who is love) and he who is in God, cannot be in death. But he does not mean that love is the cause of that translation (which is elsewhere ascribed to faith, Jn. 5:24). Hence Lorinus and Gagnaeus on this passage well remark that "the causal article denotes the cause, not of the thing but of the knowledge." On this account even the more, that since God loved us first (not we God, 1 Jn. 4:10), the justification by which God loved us ought to precede our love. XVII. Christ promises "the love of the Father" to those who love him (Jn. 14:23), not affectively and as to its beginning (as if the love of the Father then begins, since he loved us before, 1 Jn. 4:10), but effectively and as to continuance and increase because he will prove his love by distinguished blessings and console them by a new manifestation of himself. But this has nothing to do with justification because to love Christ and to keep his commands belongs to a man already constituted in grace and justified. (book 2, Sixteenth topic, The Justification of Faith, VIII (eighth question), paragraphs XVI, XVII)

Faith is NOT defined as "receiving a person." Faith is defined as "accepting that a proposition is true." Of course, trusting in Jesus is a good thing. It's just NOT the DEFINITION of the Greek word "pistis." The sole instrument of our salvation is 1. Understanding a proposition (i.e. The Gospel), 2. Applying it to our self-interest, 3. Accepting it as true. Pistis is INTELLECTUAL. It's knowledge.
James 2:19 " You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder!" Accepting and believing knowledge is different than saving faith. Even the demons and devil know who Christ is. As pastor John once said, "The devil's problem isn't doctrine, its delight." and "The devil will have more theologically correct thoughts about God in 24 hours, than you will in a life time." The point being, simply knowing and believing objective fact about Christ without pursuing him as the Lord of your life and atonement of sins won't save.
@Jacob Santel Jesus's flesh was hammered to the cross to pay for the sins of MEN. The Gospel DOES NOT APPLY to demons favorably. That was James's point in Ch 2:19. Demons do not believe that Jesus died for THEM, because He didn't! The demons do, however, believe that there is one God . . . And moreover THEY apply it (unlike the Christians being criticized). But the Bible applies to the demons unfavorably.
@@jacobsantel9792 You think that "PURSUING" is an additional WORK that YOU must perform to be saved. You have polluted faith with WORKS. You are a Catholic.
Modern day American Christianity is unintentionally (for the most part) leading people towards the wrong path and giving incorrect information. We think that anyone and everyone who says the sinner's prayer, believes in Jesus and goes to church consistently is a Christian. We are incorrectly preaching a wide road to salvation. The reality is that it's absolutely possible to say the sinner's prayer and go to church consistently and not be saved. Believing in Jesus is not believing intellectually only. Rather, there is a faith initiated by God that is born out in a true believer's life. The one who loves God obeys His commands. A Christian is a follower of Christ. There's no such thing as having saving faith while not being a follower of Christ. 1 John/James provides biblical evidence of God within a true beliver. (That's not to say we won't sin b/c we will always be far from perfect; failing constantly.) Piper said in another APJ that one litmus test is to see the degree to which your sin is premeditated and your prayers asking for forgiveness fatalistic/lip service b/c you know you'll be sinning again and not really fighting it, etc. There is no line where say 20+ sins/day means you're not saved but to the degree which this describes you, you should beware. You're not displaying evidence that there is an opposing force (God) within you. Let's all assess our own spiritual health and correctly communicate the gospel. All for His glory!

Come on Piper, I believe we grow into this treasuring Jesus idea. Maybe at first we DO want a ticket out of hell, who doesn’t? With time we see him more precious day by day!
We have learned alot good things from John piper , but i don't think treasuring Christ is the way of salvation. Its trusting you haven't treasure christ ( but by mercy) the way of salvation. Rom 1 ,it says all men knowing God but they don't want to glorify (treasure) him. They don't treasure God ,but fall short of treasuring God. But by faith of sacrifice of christ ,saved by grace freely. Freely is send your hand receive gift. No need good hand ,you can receive by bad hand also. Man knowing God doesn't treasure God. Treasuring God is Thinking ,loving , doing ,serving God fully. Its The first command of the law but they change it's name to treasure. Christ only treasured God ,and did all Gods will , He was justified ,and got life. But others no one treasured God , and did his will. But fall short of treasuring God and sinned. There is redemtion in Jesus only. What can i do? Believe in Jesus only .you don't treasure God , tell God i don't treasure you till now, that is the truth. Becos of that sin my wage is death.but christ died for me .in resurected for me. That i may be saved by fath ,while i am ungodly. So faith is not treasuring and doing , this is meriting. But faith is receiving gift ,while you dont treasure that gift ,and you dont work for that gift. Treasuring God is the first law of moses. Christ treasing God is counted to us ,christs doing is counted for us. Trust christ did it all. Its not because you treasure God=its not because you love God , but because God loved you and gave you his son ,to be received by faith ,so that you may be saved by grace. But that faith creates ,motivates , good works ,fruits . but the assurance of salvation is Christ only, with out adding any good works or fruits. Good works testify your faith only ,healthy faith, working faith, active faith, motivated faith etc. So loving God ,treasuring God ,is the first law of moses. No one kept that law,no one love God. Christ loved God ,died for us because we dont treasure God , counted as we treasured God in Christ by faith alone.
When Paul said I count it all loss for the treasure to come wasn't he referring to how he became a homeless tentmaker instead of the lawyer he formerly studied to become a judge on Sanhedrin Supreme Court of Israel?? Jesus said don't store up treasures on earth where thieves MOTHS and rust destroy..what treasures did you give up to have real faith John?? What is Future Grace for HIRELINGS??
Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Sadly you tell us Christians were in a delusion. The truth is you and your video games you are in The biggest delusion of all. You will live in that terrible delusion for eternity if you don't come to Christ before it's too late.
The Gospel: Plain and Simple “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3 Ask someone today if they are saved and you will most likely hear responses like these: “I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually knows the gospel that saves them. These useless phrases don’t describe a thing about what the gospel is and has left a devastating effect of people not knowing what it is that they are saved from nor how they are saved; which leaves a more serious effect of people questioning their salvation. Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salvation that is in Christ with vague church sounding phrases that do not communicate anything. But rather present God’s word with clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel: plain and simple. Sin was passed upon all men by one man Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin (Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good works one might do we are still found sinners in the sight of our Creator God. And all unrighteousness and those who follow get indignation and wrath. We cannot be found righteous for by God’s law we are found sinners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even one law we are found guilty. It is for this reason of not being able to create our own righteousness and being born in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus 3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross 2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath and judgement that was intended for us sinners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial, and resurrection on our behalf that we are able to have peace with God and forgiveness of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good news is unto all but only those that believe in it are made righteous in Christ (Romans 3:22). It is then after we have heard this good news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit and we are now part of Christ’s body the church (Eph 1:13) There is nothing that we need to do, no good works that are required, and no bad works that can separate us from our new position in Christ (Romans 8:35-39). Faith and belief in this information from God’s word is the gospel. The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your heart. The gospel is not making him lord of your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not being baptized with water. So next time someone asks you if you are saved. Give them the clear assured answer “Yes! And let me tell you why!” Find more free resources at www.graceambassadors.com

Love that
thank you Lord for this man and his writings that has saved many
He has such a gift of summarizing profound truth to make it more understandable. Thanks be to God for our dearest treasure and greatest pleasure!
indeed
God bless.

WOW!! This book just got dropped out when I was desperately looking an explanation on this topic. Thanks Pastor John Piper
There is no scripture that says God picks some for eternal life, or hell But it does say that God glorifies Himself by Jesus

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)”, -Ephesians 2 : 5
So, sister I humbly urge you to dig deep through the scriptures and understand the sweetness of The Doctrine of Election.

In other words, Jesus Christ and all the others upon whom this character is predicated are personifications of the sun, and the Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun throug the heavens.

“Saving faith is the echo of the emptiness of the soul looking away to the all sufficiently of Christ.”
If he is merely totally competent to save then he is not yet treasured.

What do you all make of this from Turretin? Take note of the very last sentence of XVII:
XVI.

How is this a comment related to my comment?
Please watch my UA-cam series "What is Saving Faith by Gordon Clark."
Faith is NOT defined as "receiving a person." Faith is defined as "accepting that a proposition is true."
Of course, trusting in Jesus is a good thing. It's just NOT the DEFINITION of the Greek word "pistis."
The sole instrument of our salvation is 1. Understanding a proposition (i.e. The Gospel), 2. Applying it to our self-interest, 3. Accepting it as true. Pistis is INTELLECTUAL. It's knowledge.
James 2:19 " You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder!"
Accepting and believing knowledge is different than saving faith.

@@jacobsantel9792 it doesn't matter how much "pursuing" effort you exert. Unless you BELIEVE something new, there is no change in your heart.
Helo how can I connect with you i have questions.

The sun rising in the morning is "the saviour of mankind"
The sun is "The light of the World"
The sun "walks on water" is just the reflection of the sun on water/the sea.
"He cometh on clouds, and every eye shall see him", is just sun rays.
Jesus' "crown of thorns" is just the sun's glare, also know as a halo.
The sun's "followers", "helpers" or "disciples" are the 12 months and the 12 signs of the zodiac or constellations, through which the sun must pass.
The sun at 12 noon is in the house or temple of the "Most High": thus.."he" begins "his Father's work" at "age" 12.

Christianity began as sun worship, the stories about Jesus are symbolic.
He is just a personification of the sun, made into a god figure later on.

Piper? What do you think about the turning over of Roe? This is the direct result of people being led by the Spirit of God in 2016 and most certainly NOT John Piper. You were on the wrong side of basic morality. You were on the wrong side of the move of the Holy Spirit.

*Saving delusion
Sadly you tell us Christians were in a delusion. The truth is you and your video games you are in The biggest delusion of all. You will live in that terrible delusion for eternity if you don't come to Christ before it's too late.
The Gospel:
Plain and
Simple
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your
minds should be corrupted from the simplicity
that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3
Ask someone today if they are saved and
you will most likely hear responses like these:
“I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I
have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been
baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good
and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually
knows the gospel that saves them. These useless phrases don’t describe a thing about what
the gospel is and has left a devastating effect
of people not knowing what it is that they are
saved from nor how they are saved; which
leaves a more serious effect of people questioning their salvation.
Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salvation that is in Christ with vague church
sounding phrases that do not communicate
anything. But rather present God’s word with
clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel:
plain and simple.
Sin was passed upon all men by one man
Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin
(Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of
condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of
this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good
works one might do we are still found sinners
in the sight of our Creator God. And all unrighteousness and those who follow get indignation and wrath. We cannot be found
righteous for by God’s law we are found sinners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even
one law we are found guilty.
It is for this reason of not being able to
create our own righteousness and being born
in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus
3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in
the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross
2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath
and judgement that was intended for us sinners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial,
and resurrection on our behalf that we are
able to have peace with God and forgiveness
of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good
news is unto all but only those that believe in
it are made righteous in Christ (Romans
3:22).
It is then after we have heard this good
news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we are now part of Christ’s body the
church (Eph 1:13)
There is nothing that we need to do, no
good works that are required, and no bad
works that can separate us from our new position in Christ (Romans 8:35-39).
Faith and belief in this information from
God’s word is the gospel.
The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your
heart. The gospel is not making him lord of
your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not
being baptized with water.
So next time someone asks you if you are
saved. Give them the clear assured answer
“Yes! And let me tell you why!”
