    I love Pr. Piper's view on saving faith - He brings out the often-missing part: Us receiving Christ as our most valuable treasure - God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him.

      Yes this is it. This how Paul can say that we don’t just proclaim the Gospel of God, but we proclaim Christ.

    Makes sense. The desire to sin is because God's presence isn't here. We have that hole and our attempts to fill it on our own is sin. When we see God that hole will be completely filled. Like that woman at the well. Sin sorta fills us a lil bit but its fleeting. The living water is the presence of God. So the earth groans for God's presence like we feel it in our bodies. Until God returns. Or we go to heaven.

    Along with relating believing to loving light rather than loving darkness is the use almost always of eis, Believing into Christ, And John's speaking of abiding in Christ. Abiding is more than remaining; in context and in the relationship, it is inhering. To believe into Christ would require an affection to do so. And probably the most definitive argument for believing involving affection is John's speaking of coming to Christ with Peter also referring in chapter 2 (3x) to coming to Christ as one precious. Nothing is precious that is not affectionately desired. So yes, believing into Jesus necessarily involves affection Because it is about inhering in someone, and more specifically, inhering in one whom we consider precious, agreeing (homologeo) with God about that.

    This is it. This explains how in Matthew 7:21 you can have people who in one sense have what we might call right theology or least some true aspects (they know Christ is Lord) and they do works like Christ yet are not Christ’s.
    After expounding on false prophets, that is people who look like sheep but are inwardly wolves, after saying we will know them by their fruits Christ talks about those of 21-23 who despite their works are ultimately found to be lacking Christ.
    Christianity, true Christianity, isn’t merely propositional but relational. We can have good theology, that is we can have a moral life, but if we treasure not the Son of God it is for nothing.

    • @Repentee
      @Repentee Рік тому

      So by good theology I mean, having the basics of faith, the propositions: Christ is the Son of God or God in the flesh and our only means of understanding God the Father. He came to earth, lived the righteous life on our behalf and died a wrath bearing death on our behalf as our propitiation and then rose from the dead and was super exalted to “right hand” of the Father. He is our Lord and Savior. But as Piper puts it we must qualify that with he must be treasured Lord and treasured Savior.

      @@Repentee Yes , I agree, yet somehow we have to stay within the boundary that we are saved entirely by the work of Jesus, don't we? I believe that this love for Jesus is part of the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. I don't think that Mr Piper touched on this issue, did he ?

      @@robturvey9156 thanks for the kind reply.
      You asked, "we have to stay within the boundary that we are saved entirely by the work of Jesus, don't we?" Yes but I'm not seeing how Piper is outside the boundaries here. What I saw was him laying out a case for why it's not merely having intellectual ascent (ie. answering the test questions correctly on judgment day) but holding Christ as treasure as the truest sign of saving faith. I think we get as much from the passage I listed above and passages like Luke 14:26 where Christ calls us to worship Him not withstanding Piper's arguments. We can't be saved unless we follow Christ and this is what it means to follow Christ to behold him as one who is to be worshipped, loved, treasured. I don't see how that's out of bounds.
      You said: " I believe that this love for Jesus is part of the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit." Amen and amen.
      "I don't think that Mr Piper touched on this issue, did he ?" - I'd have to go back over the sermon which I probably will. But I think it's at very least implicit.
      Happy Good Friday brother.

      @@Repentee I was not saying that Mr Piper was in any way outside those boundaries nor was he advocating going outside those boundaries. I value his teaching enormously. I was just surprised that he didn’t ( unless I missed it ) make that particular point. I would see it as the growing love for Jesus, the person is evidence of what God has established in our hearts and minds through the work of the Spirit.
      A very Happy Easter to you.

    What book is piper referring to?

  • @WithoutGodYouCantDoDiddlySquat

    I'm always confused by Piper. He's an inconsistent Calvinist. If Calvinism is true, so much of what he teaches is inconsistent with it. Man doesn't have free will. What he does and says has been predetermined by God. If you treasure Christ it's because God programmed you that way, and vice versa.

    • @Theranchhouse1
      @Theranchhouse1 Рік тому

      I think he speaks about it...like John Macarthur does...MacArthur says mans free will & Gods predetermination runs parallel....? Hard to understand but I just take it by Faith.

  • @JohnQPublic11
    @JohnQPublic11 Рік тому

    Apparently Mr. Piper doesn't understand Reformed Theology. On Calvinism, the only people who receive saving faith are those the sovereign Calvinist potter God has chosen, *prior to Creation,* and then at some random moment in future time forces faith upon their reprobate souls against their *TOTALLY DEPRAVED* will.

    • @Repentee

      Its funny how Calvinists don't know a single thing about the detailed widespread controversies surrounding their man-made unbiblical theology.
