I think it's a process. You become aware of sin and then you repent. At first you know there is struggling cause sin is too strong. But when you repent and ask the holy spirit to take this from you.. as days go by you will see that this sin has no power anymore over you. What is sin? What is saved? Dont be fooled. We receive the seed of faith. NOBODY is born again until the last day. Having received the seed of faith, we are to develop into the calling and stature of our savior. HOW? By following Him and Him alone. HE KEPT TORAH. Do you not think the Angel's follow after the law of heaven? We are to keep His commandments. His commandments are above HIS OWN NAME. If He lifts His Torah above His own name then, who are we to ignore His righteous law.

Focusing on ourselves and the sin we commit will only lead us to sin more. Take your eyes off yourself and put them on Jesus, His beauty, perfection, power, love, and wisdom. When our eyes are on Him, sinning will be the last thing we want to do. What you focus on is where you will go.❤️
I totally agree, Pam. I have consistently argued here that focusing on ourselves is a symptom of a deficiency in love. Instead of wondering what Heaven will be like, we need to pay more attention to whether we will be allowed in the door. All this talk of whether we will lose our salvation, I.e. our admission ticket, is completely self-centred. Can we arrive at Heaven and say: "I demand admission; here is my ticket,"? I think not. John's letters, Paul in 1 Cor 13 and Jesus Himself in Matt. 2 all stress that the essential quality is an outward looking life of loving, not a life of wondering whether our admission ticket is still valid. Paul says that anything less is a waste of time.
@@douglaidlaw740 I won't disagree with you, but the Devil does try to convince us otherwise, some more than others - depending on the footholds established. Struggling with doubts and unbelief are quite normal in our walk, but dwindle more and more with maturity - we are all at different places so it's good to be sensitive to that. It may not be so much about the "ticket" as you stated, but more about dealing with the sin can often brews from sadness, depression, or anxiety of some form.
Couldn't have been stated more clearly by you or by God through the book of John, 1 John, and the entire new testament. People like John Piper will never have assurance and may have never BELIEVED the gospel of grace.

Give yourself a break, man! This wallowing in sin isn't good for anyone. What do you expect? Of course you do that because you're HUMAN. If God made us this way, then why is it our problem?
Eric Hetherington I’m assuming God made us this way to separate the good and bad from the same crop..but unlike the crop, it is our choice where we will end up, based on our sacrifices and willingness to sacrifice..in the old covenant the sacrifices where done in a physical temple on the alter to God.. in the new covenant we are the temple and gods alter is our hearts... Jesus said go and sin no more.. honour god in all you do.. and love others as he loves us. these three things take unbearable sacrifice and practice at times.. but the bad crop will be burned and the good will be used in the celebration feast of eternal life... I am glad I struggle with my sin.. it means I am on the right path, to honouring God with all my heart, soul, and mind. It’s just heart breaking at times, so it’s comforting to know others are walking this road with me. We all receive the same encouragement from Gods word... that is comforting... @@Taygon094 And just how exactly do you know what God did? Paul Washer has a very helpful phrase on this subject: If you love God more than sin, you are probably saved But if you love sin more than you love God, you are probably lost A simple way to strive against sin is to "CAP your sin": C - Confess (right away and very specifically to the Lord) A - Accept His forgiveness (Jesus Christ paid in full; His righteousness is credited to us by faith) P - Pray against sin (Depend on the Lord and not our own flesh to overcome sin in the future) All three steps are important, EVERY TIME we are aware we sin. It is easy to forget steps A or P. May the Lord grant us all grace to continually strive against sin.

@@JonathanGrandt Friend, your easy-believism argument isn't with me but with every writer in the NT. 1 John 2:4-6 Whoever says I know him but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
Dan Ball where does that verse you quoted say anything about ones salvation? You must understand that Christ did not come to make the flesh better, he came to crucify it. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 “Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:11 Paul spoke about this in Romans, saying that as long as a person lives he is under the condemnation of the law, but if he dies the law has no power over him now, “Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.” Romans 7:1-2 Jesus also spoke about this to Nicodemus. He said, “unless he be born again” and he also said, “that which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of spirit is spirit. The new birth is a spiritual one and it is as righteous as Christ himself. Just as we all were born from the seed of Adam, true believers have been from the spiritual seed of Christ. 1 John talks about this.. “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” I John 3:9 The new birth CANNOT sin. 1 Peter also talks about this seed, “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” I Peter 1:23 The seed is incorruptible because it was wrought by God himself through Christ. Please understand that these 2 births are different. One is of the flesh and one of the spirit. God doesn’t take a dog and clean him up and say now your a chicken, and he doesn’t take our flesh, clean it up and say now your my child, no, he had to kill. And he did that by sending Christ to be our representative and die the death we deserved so that we may become the righteousness of God through him. Let me say something else, if you have never put your trust where God put your sin, on Jesus bleeding on the cross, and In that alone you are not saved. Salvation is all by God’s grace, and grace is not of works “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 The great savior did not come to share the glory of accomplishing salvation with you, he came to accomplish it alone and offer it to unworthy sinners.
@@cotydanger4071 To answer your question, "know Him" is salvation. Amen to all you have said, only you need to move on from Romans 6 & 7 into Romans 8 The flesh cannot keep the Law. Jesus Christ is that. Those who are led by the Spirit put to death the deeds of the flesh, and then progressively fulfill the heart of the Law: Love God and others. Romans 8:2-5 "For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit." Paul concludes the section by saying lives are changed for true believers: Romans 8:13-14 "For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
The Bible says: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast." Could I not boast about how much I love God and how much I hate sin?

This is such a confirmation for me. In the past week I had read 1 John and I was struggling with one of these issues (do I bear [enough] fruit to show that I'm saved). It caused a depression for 2-3 days until He answered me in pretty much the way Dr. Piper described here. This is even though I have struggled with this same issue several times over the years, and even though God has always been faithful to me and has confirmed His love for me in Christ, I still get caught in these ruts. And on top of Christ confirming to me in His own way (again) that I really belong to Him, He gave me this video to watch as icing on the cake. Praise be to the Lamb, and thank you Desiring God!
The fruit of a saved person is other saved people. An apple tree produces apples, an orange tree produces oranges, a Christian produces other Christians. Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise. People have been deceived into thinking they should have all the fruit of the Spirit for confirmation they are saved. If people don’t attempt to preach the gospel to others (aka soulwinning) they will never bear any fruit, but that does not mean they are not saved. There are many examples of fruitless christians in the Bible, think of Lot for example. Work and therefore fruit are not required for salvation because salvation is “to him that worketh not but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” Calvinists preachers are lying to you. Calvinism teaches works based salvation. Look up the Bible way to heaven by Sanderson1611 or verity Baptist Church and hear the true gospel so you can get saved.
I know people who say I take my faith "too seriously," that I "see everything through a Biblical lens," and that since God forgives me of my sin, I need to forgive myself.... But, this is exactly what I go through when I sin, and although I accept His continued mercy and forgiveness, it's difficult to wrap my mind around. I plea with the Lord to help me not to keep disappointing Him....my desire is to be pleasing to Him, and I know that can only happen with total submission, walking in the spirit. It's a difficult process to go through, but when we think of eternity....it's so worth it
Oh God, he is speaking and Im crying. That is what happened to me, I was drifting because I could not have strenght to fight the sin in my life, which took over, but there always was a slight desire left for God. In august after a prayer I experienced exactly what this pastor describes in the first minutes, even my wife said as if I was dead but now alive. God keep me in your name.
It is important that what you regard as repentance is what God calls repentance in the Bible. You must sincerely regret having sinned against God, and come to the point of hearing and agreeing 100% with Jesus' message saying, "I do not condemn you, now go and don't sin anymore" (John 8:11). Your obedience as you choose to follow God's ways is key. That opens the door to receiving his *forgiveness* for your past sins (Romans 3:25), *healing* (Luke 5:31-32), freedom from sin/addictions (John 8:34-36), and the gift of *a new life* that you will live for God and no longer for sin and the passing things of the world (Romans 6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15). That is salvation.
I love the deepness of this preaching. I like when he describes what happens in the regenerated heart of the child of God. The Bible is a mirror of our heart. And he preaches it very well.
We will never experience a perfect repentance and that"s why repentance is not a "one moment door" that we enter the narrow way. Repentance is the current lifestyle state of the narrow way traveller. Faith in Jesus + Nothing (in other words, faith in Jesus alone) is equal to Salvation. And the Spirit of God produces repentance as lifestyle state in the hearth of the new born persom and is making him to persevere in that way.
@@TiagoMuhlethaler When one understands their sin, and their need of a Savior, they have a “change of mind” about their sin. Which leads to one turning to Christ/Coming to FAITH or Trust in God! I like to think of it like this, How can one come to Faith/trust in the Savior if they don’t understand their need of a Savior? Here’s An Analogy: If I offered you a Cure for a deadly disease, you’d probably decline it and keep on going with your day. But If I told you that you have that deadly disease, and you’re in DESPERATE need of that Cure you’d take that Cure immediately! That’s how it is with Repentance and Faith. When one comes to Repentance, and understands their sin, and how deadly it truly is (The disease), they’ll come to Faith/Trust in Christ (The Cure), because they understand their need of a Savior.
I am instantly discusted with myself, i cry, i feel seperated and unworthy, i actually don't know if i want to go on anymore disappointing my beautiful Lord.
Dear Tessa, as you feel the guilt and shame of your sins, I want you to know that’s the Holy Spirit convicting you of your sins. Imagine the Holy Spirit appearing before you, seeing you sin - perhaps having a foul tongue, or lustful thoughts, envy etc.. that feeling of guilt and shame is the Holy Spirit talking to you saying ‘What you’re doing isn’t right, make peace with the Lord and repent’. As all of us walk through this earth there will be times we’ll stumble and sin (myself included). But we must never lose faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I’m praying that God will help guide yourself and others worldwide through the Holy Spirit and that you never lose your faith in Jesus.
This is so true, we all do this. I know I do, and then the self loathing that comes afterwards. I am always grateful for my "shame" as it kicks me back into trying to be sin free, despite knowing I will never be sin free. My gratitude to Christ is infinite, and to God the Father for sending his beautiful Son. I am so grateful that Christ is my advocate with the Father.
I don't know what you mean by "sin free" but the Bible certainly says you should be "freed from sin." Please look into that in John 8:34-36, Romans 6:6-7. It also says you will become "dead to sin" as a follower of Jesus (1 Peter 2:24, Romans 6:2, Romans 6:11). These are different ways of saying that a person who has been saved by grace through faith will not live under the power of sin. That would be a contradiction to what Romans 6:14 says: Romans 6:14 For *sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace.* Ultimately, you need to abide in Jesus and relate to what this scripture says: 1 John 3:6 Whoever abides in Him [Jesus] *does not sin.* Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. It will come down to this: If you could stop sinning would you want to? There is a Good News about that. Jesus made the way for that. Jesus says this to anyone who has an encounter with Him: "I do not condemn you; now, go and don't sin anymore" (John 8:11). That's when a sinner who repents receives a clean slate to start walking in God's ways. Jesus did not command something that was impossible, but something that is doable with his help when we are in complete submission to Him and only want to do God's will, e.g. submit to God and resist the devil so that he flees (James 4:7).
That “shame” you experience is called condemnation. It comes from a carnal mind that still can’t understand spiritual things. If you are a believer, you are no longer under any condemnation. God isn’t upset with you at all. You can preach the word to yourself daily by preaching who you are in Christ and what he has given you.
@udonemessedup1970 The most important thing is for someone to be who they are supposed to be in Christ. They are not merely a new creature in Christ by believing that they are that new creature without having taken the way to that. If they *became* that new creature, then there is no way they will miss on noticing that fact. And the new life they will live from that point on will also be screaming that they have been resurrected to a newness of life (Romans 6:4). It's a dangerous thing to preach to yourself who you think you are when you have not become what you know you are supposed to be. And most definitely, this is true: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, *who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.* So, the person who is indeed not carnal won't be driven to sin because of the power of the flesh and its desires. That flesh will be crucified (Galatians 5:24). So, walking according to the flesh does not go hand in hand with being under no condemnation in Christ Jesus. You said the opposite to the OP, like walking according to the flesh is of no consequence. Someone trapped in sin still is necessarily carnal (Romans 7:14, John 8:34 VS Romans 8:2, John 8:36), not spiritual in some other angle. It's one or the other. Not living according to the flesh (carnal) and thinking God is blind to it or that there is anything spiritual in that. You want to find out for sure sooner rather than later if what you believe is true (Galatians 5:19-21 is relevant). We would all be on the same page if we all agreed with the Bible message about repentance and what God says that it's about.
@@friendyadvice2238 I did not comment to sound like what I am. But may you hear God's word and agree with how you should be if you are walking in what Jesus died to give you as a gift if you would come to Him the way He expects, and not deny that life as impossible. Don't hear it from anyone. Hear it from Jesus whether you can and should be sin free (I personally said "freed from sin") or something else. So, you understood my first reply and just didn't like how it sounded? If you don't like how the truth sounds, then you cannot know it as the truth that will set you free from sin (I advise you to read and believe John 8:31-36). Without the truth, you will be stuck thinking this or that can or cannot be and you will be happy with what you want to believe. And if what sounds good to you is a lie, know what that means also, in all seriousness. I'll make this my last reply.
Doesn't this strike anyone as rather glib? Did he mean it? After all, Adam and Eve had about the same command but presumably God knew all along they'd blow it. Why would Jesus make such an impossible demand? So people can fail and feel bad?
@@erichetherington9314 No, he can make that demand because he knows the effect sin has on his children, and just as a father, I tell my son "don't touch that" he will anyway, that doesn't make me love him less but it will hurt him, without my intervening. Christ can say "sin no more" because he always loves us to the utmost perfection, he sees in us things we don't. He was challenging the woman to do better!
Eric Hetherington yes. It’s a horrible explanation. I noticed all big name preachers are horrible at answering this. They make a sermon out of it and you end up more confused than when you started. The only one who explains it well is Dr. Gene Kim. Short and sweet and it’s what I’ve used since forever. To the point
Thank you Sir, for this very important and helpful sermon. I just stumbled on it tonight, and it gave fresh courage to continue to persevere in the faith in our Lord Jesus.
This brother in Christ is so on point! That verse that he mentions in 1st John 3:9 brought me to repentance on April 28, 2020. Praise God and bless this man for presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that we all can benefit from as we grow in knowledge. Thank you so much for your faithfulness ❣️

I have gone through both of these attitudes. Right now it has been condemning myself. Guessing if I even have the fruits. This sermon has blessed me greatly. It helped me look back on times that I had grace well up in me when someone has hurt me. And reminded me of the fruits the Holy Spirit has bared in my life. I will now focus on those attitudes and stop condemning myself! Praying to never swing to either of these places ever again
I really needed to hear this today. I am so often despairing over my sin, apathy, lukewarmness, prayerlessness. And when I don’t read the word, or hear teachings like this, I forget that I have an Advocate. Thank you Pastor John for this reminder. We are so blessed to have you.
I pray you will experience the reality, the sweetness of God's love for you. Not only knowing it in your head but actually experiencing it in your heart. You have to be sick and tired of life running around the circle. That was me being a Christian since birth (not really, I was a sinner since birth) knowing everything about the love God for me, even talking about it but it's empty. Until one day, hearing this song "Jesus we love you" I want to sing it but I know deep inside my heart I can't because it will just be hipocrisy for me. So the desire to be able to say "Jesus I love you" was birth in my heart. One day, while I was driving and the same song was playing in my car, suddenly this feeling/awareness of being loved by God through what Jesus' had to suffer and died for me felt so real and cried my heart out like never before. It changed my whole life. It's no longer a struggle against sin but a snuggle with His presence His Word and His love. Bless you!!!
My assurance of salvation is seeing how God has allowed me to understand the errors of my life! My desperate need for Christ. My constant longing for more of the Holy Spirit!
The Spirit is so strong in this man like it was in David Wilkerson. Oh lord make me like this man to help your children. Bless all those who watch this.
Thank GOD Almighty in CHRIST JESUS Each time since i was Born Again in 1996 I read The Holy Bible, i sink to my knees And cry out to JESUS to forgive me And avoid SIN again!!!!
This is a daily difficult struggle for all of us. Stay strong in your faith, suffer as Jesus did and in the end your reward will be greater than any suffering you endured here on earth!
Whosoever SHALL call on the name of the Lord, SHALL be saved! no loopholes, no works in the flesh. Jesus is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of our so great Salvation. It was finished at Calvary and is a FREE GIFT not of works least any man could boast.
What a beautiful and comforting sermon on Assurance - I have found myself on both sides many of times and Jesus always brings me back to His care. What a wonderful God we have!
Thank you for the video. I've been both presumptuous and despairing at different times regarding my sin and God's grace. So glad I have an advocate and that the Judge is our Dad, otherwise I would be toast.
I was stuck in sin and not really too worried but i would think about it and ask for forgiveness but that was it i didnt pray for my family or friends or about me just forgiveness and would go to bed sleep watching this video i felt the holy spirit many many times thank you for giving this message and bringing me back to christ i dont deserve it and i finally understand gods true love because again and again he says im here and i love you i love you pastor have a bless day.
Scripture says we are to examine ourselves...Piper is shooting 'straight as an arrow'..Thank you John Piper for hearing the Holy Spirit and teaching Gods children the TRUTH !!!!!
:” all my sins i now detest them” is part of a hymn that calls on Gods forgiveness. He does forgive us, and we will feel forgiven when we have forgiven ourselves. Ignore the evil one if he tempts you into despair. You belong to the Holy One and call on Him whenever you feel discouraged. He has plans for all of us.❤️
No. 5 is so relatable. That is what I did in 2021 - held on too long thinking (along with the narrative) that things were going to go back up. I wanted my $100 go up to $4000 in Kishu Inu... then watched it come back down to like $1500 when I sold. I should have withdrawn like $2,000 when it peaked, then when it came back down sold the rest for like $1500. I walked away with like 1/3 of what I could have.
We all struggle with that from time to time, but just pray and ask the Lord for humility (to be humble), then you will be exalted. "But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." Matthew 23:12
I have been a black sheep. Away from the church far too long. I’m back but I fear my salvation was gone, I know salvation through Christ and his grace alone, but I did not live like a Christian for quite a time. Praise Jesus I was not too long. It’s worse than having assurance... I fear I actually could have lost my salvation. I praise God that I am back, home, safe in Christ... I will never leave again!
People use the word "blessed" in many questionable ways, and I've never used it to describe myself on social media. But this sermon clip truly blessed me. That is exactly how I feel. Thank you1
the part about getting too presumptous and lukewarm and not vigilant describes exactly how I feel right now! Its a dangerous place to me. Please LORD let me run to you for safety always. Make me to know how much I need you instead of being so apathetic
You get a new heart when you are born again. It’s here that his spirit resides. It is a light in exposing your flesh which is continually at war with the new heart. You will know your born again because your new heart will not allow to continue. Doesn’t mean you won’t stumble you just can’t rest or stay in sin.

One of Pastor John’s most power messages. The book of first John has so much to teach us, but it can be a minefield if you don’t have a guide. Thank you Pastor for this rich blessing. The fruits of the spirit abound in this message.
U have to be careful with that though, I'm not doubting your salvation, but you can eventually deafen the voice of GOD and His Spirit if you go on sinning. Tears can be a confusing thing esp if u keep doing it. We will overcome thru Jesus Christ! :-)
My biggest weakness is I slip up and curse when I get frustrated. Sometimes I say GD. I struggle with anxiety. It's hard to have a good attitude because the world is so messed up. I would never bring a child in to this society even if I could afford it. I always beg for forgiveness when I mess up.
Brad Crampton excuse me, I keep seeing you on the comments. I just want to say if you have nothing nice to say, then why are you here? Why are you watching this video if you’re just going to be rude? Everyone has their beliefs so I think it’s bad that you’re here trying (because you’re not actually doing it) to make us feel bad about what we believe in. I just wanted to tell you what I think
@@stephanieanguiano1004 I suppose, if you feel bad because somebody does not like your beliefs then you may be having a hard time distinguishing between yourself and your ideas. Now, if you don't feel bad, then that could be taken as a good sign in that you are able to determine that you are not your beliefs. Your beliefs are just something that have come about over time and nearly have a life of their own. If you think I am trying to make you fell bad because I don't like your beliefs then you may want to consider that just because somebody disagrees strongly with your beliefs does not mean they have an other intention other than stating their disagreement. There really is no polite way to say that a god who tortured his son to death as some kind of sacrifice is some sadistic bullshit and should be placed upon the refuse pile of bad ideas.

I’ve been struggling with my faith recently especially around areas such as predestination, I wasn’t sure if I would ever know if I had been saved and if my life could show it. But this video has really helped me and I now realise I have been focused on myself rather than on Christ Jesus. Whilst I still have a long way to go in my faith I now feel a lot stronger in it.
Make sure you approach God the way He expects you to with the right mindset. You must submit to God. That is essential: James 4:7-8 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. That's what your attitude needs to be when you are going through the process of *repentance* and committing to be obedient to God for the rest of your life (that's the kind of "change of mind" God wants to see). You must sincerely regret having sinned against God, and come to the point of hearing and agreeing 100% with Jesus' message saying, "I do not condemn you, now go and don't sin anymore" (John 8:11). Your obedience as you choose to follow God's ways is key--that's how you show your faith to God (John 3:36, Luke 6:46, Hebrews 3:17-18). That opens the door to receiving his *forgiveness* for your past sins (2 Peter 1:9), *healing* (Luke 5:31-32), *freedom from sin/addictions* (John 8:34-36), and the gift of *a new life* that you will live for God and no longer for sin and the passing things of the world (Romans 6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15). That is the salvation you must make sure you have experienced: freedom from sin (John 8:36, Romans 8:1-2) versus bondage to sin (John 8:34, Romans 7:23). Approaching God in genuine repentance will lead to you receiving the Holy Spirit to lead you to "walk by the Spirit" (Acts 2:38, Galatians 5:16)--with a pure heart and self-control, which is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Any habit that controls you reveals idolatry in your heart. You have to choose to be done with that and it will be part of your past. That's one thing that will come out of your commitment to be obedient to God for the rest of your life. Please see 1 Peter 4:1-3 and 1 Thessalonians 1:9. James 1:21-22 21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls [that's repentance]. 22 But be doers of the word [that's faith, which implies obedience], and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. Hebrews 5:9 And having been made perfect, He [Jesus] became the author of 👉 *eternal salvation to all those who obey Him [...].* Please stay in the word and obey it (James 1:21-22). The word of God is fuel for your faith. To live as a follower of Jesus you must go out of your way to put the word of God in your heart and keep it there, rejecting all distractions. It's a fight and that's how you need to stand to not fall down. The truth will set you free from all sin (John 8:31-32, 36).
When you Seek Jesus and Have Complete Relationship with Him..He Saves you from men and their false ideas and their self-righteousness. You are Saved and Free. Jesus is the Only One Who Knows what is Right for me..and you.
The way immersion Baptism works, did not become clear to me. I had repented, and post- Baptism, continue to repent. But in my attitudes and actions, I was not clear. Can’t wait to read it. But worthy? I don’t know. For we are saved by grace, not works. It’s not so simple. Your sincerity is so clear. Thank you.
We are saved not because of what we feel or not because of what changes we are having . WE ARE SAVED BECAUSE OF THE FINISH WORK OF JESUS CHRIST. IT IS THROUGH HIS WORK ALONE ON WHY WE ARE SAVED FROM THE WRATH OF GOD.
I bet when I was hurting you were praying awesome prayers for me, I saw a post about people who make you uncomfortable as a blessing and I’m sorry! I have mental illness and God like promised me salvation, He tells me it a lot! Maybe because that’s where my entire life was for years, like God Won’t forgive me, God Can’t forgive what I did.... and He has Promised and I am like there’s nothing I could even do to change it, but that doesn’t make me want to sin, it makes me want to obey
This is the Gospel of Your Salvation: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, HOW that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" -- 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV Bible) No amount of good works can save you, only the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross can -- only his BLOOD can erase your sins. BELIEVE WITH YOUR WHOLE HEART the gospel of your salvation and you are SEALED with the holy Spirit of promise until the day of redemption (the day you are raptured). God bless and preach the gospel to your loved ones, friends, strangers, and even your enemies.
I may not listen to many vids and have real difficulty understanding the Bible and your theology, but in truth I see salvation all over you! That’s all I actually want for you bro! In truth!

So I keep falling to sin and stumbling and am trying really hard. I trust that Jesus Christ will save me. Am I saved? My pastor told me I am and baptized me in October. Am I not saved because I stumble?
Yes. You have thrown yourself towards Jesus, trusting that He is your Lord. Do make the time to confess and repent your struggles, but take solace in the gift of Jesus, who you surrendered to.
Richard Bennett I came to watch this video because I do not have assurance of my salvation bc I am stumbling and not killing the sin in my life out of my love for Jesus and saying Jesus is more most of the time and I’m not putting to death what is earthly in me and fighting my sin daily hourly secondly. I am not vigilantly combating against urges and emotions that don’t reflect Christ most of my day. Meaning I’m not in prayer with God about my struggles with sin on an hourly basis. This is why I am not sure if I am born again and I think rightly so. God demands allegiance to himself. He’s jealous for our affection and also rightly so because we are his. You ask if you are saved, i don’t know but if are in the same boat I am in then you also shouldn’t stand assured
@@jdforjc3693 Jesus' love for you/us is beyond our understanding. We know that if you seek him wholeheartedly you WILL find him(Jeremiah 29:13). So repent and ask him to cast out the bad and usher in the greatness that is him. Flee from your sin don't be lax about it (that's where I fail alot.) be vigilant always! All the best on your journey may God bless you :)
Leon Z I believe God has power over sin. I believe God is omnipotent and omniscient. But I am responsible for putting to death what is earthly in me according to Colossians 3. I am responsible but am only able by the power of the Holy Spirit. I have not repented. But also God grants repentance according to Paul in his letter to Timothy. The message I was trying to convey was I have not repented and if this guy has also not repented then we should not say we are loved by God as children of God
I struggle with sin at times, but I always get reassured when I go about doing gods will. Preaching his message with love and conviction, loving my neighbors, helping the poor and lost and resting in the lords love. Daily prayer helps alot too. I don't say I don't struggle but I do my best not to slip.
How much did our heavenly Father use brother Piper right here? I'm in awe at the forgiveness in the works of Jesus' death, and the justification in His resurrection. He alone is our advocate and in that we should despise our sin and proclaim His righteousness to this fallen world. His grace abounds in me as I have been forgiven of so much evil. Through the Holy Spirit, I can now see the offense of my sins and I desire to sin no more.
I -try- not commit sin on purpose, but the fact that I don't read my Bible enough, and don't listen to the Holy Spirit telling me to do things gives me the feeling my sins are *gargantuous* . And knowing that God wants us to be perfect for the day He comes and takes His bride home, I feel like I'm not doing enough, and thus am not worthy of being saved by Him. I mean, Jesus gave Himself up, got tortured, carried a cross, was nailed on said cross, agonized for hours, died the death of sinners *volontarily* and I can't even go ring my neighbours' doors and tell them the Gospel even though I know God tells me to do so? I'm worse than pathetic
Well, Brother/Sister, you are right in saying that you are pathetic- all of us are, apart from God. But think of it like this: The very moment Jesus hung for us on that cross, He saw you and me: puny, pathetic, miserable, disloyal, disobedient us, and all the sins we would ever commit in our lifetime. And he said: "These ones too, are absolutely worth it." That's right. You and I were worth Deicide- the literal death of God. And if we were worth that to Him, we can assured of our worth as Children of God now. So don't let the fact that you stumble deter you from running the race. Rather, "Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every weight and the sin which so easily entangles. And let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Pioneer and Perfector of our faith," (Hebrews 12:1-2) May His word encourage, exhort, and convict you as you continue growing in Him and chasing His Kingdom. Blessings.

Well stated!!! Completely agree, we are to always keep our eyes on Jesus... regardless of circumstance or feeling.
Thank you
Couldn't have been stated more clearly by you or by God through the book of John, 1 John, and the entire new testament. People like John Piper will never have assurance and may have never BELIEVED the gospel of grace.

First of all you need to know the definition of a sinner and also you need to know the definition of born again. once you know those two u will be able to know your position in Christ Jesus. the bible says because of one man(adam) many become sinners and because of one man (Jesus) many became righteous. if you testify with your own mouth that Jesus christ is the lord and believe with your own heart you will be saved. A saved person is nolonger a sinner .A sinner is someone who reject the truth someone who doesn't receive Jesus as his personal saviour. Romans 10 vs 9. I encourage you to read and understand the word of God that is the truth and the truth shall set you free. without the truth you can not defeat the devil. Mathew 6 vs 33 seek the kingdom first. when satan was tempting Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus defeated him by the truth which is the word of God .he was referring satan to the scriptures .so all I can tell you my brethren it's the battle for the mind 2 corinthians 10 vs 4-6. we pull down strongholds ,casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ

@@chrissonofpear1384 Oh, they might feel it --- but if they were cast out, it's too late.
So why would they do it? What would they even think they lacked for?

It feels so comforting to know others go through this... the more I think I can overcome sin for god, the more I fail.. the doors constantly open, I constantly close them... I am so ashamed of myself, even my best isn’t good enough in my opinion of who I could be... Forgive me father...
I guess, this is why Jesus called the Holy Spirit the comforter
@@Taygon094 And just how exactly do you know what God did? Would your account of God "allowing evil to exist" (a curious notion; what's the difference between an All-creating God who made everything and a God who simply "allows" evil) be consistent with other religious beliefs about evil around the world? Are you going to tell me, like everyone else here, that what you say is true because the Bible says so? That's not evidence.
Presumably, this evil had to come into existence, and since God, we're told, created everything, he'd have to have created this.
Of course, all of this is speculative and symbolic. We don't actually KNOW what happened.
@@yashuafly6342 We most emphatically do NOT "all receive the same encouragement from God's word"! In extreme cases, people that commit mass shooting or other heinous acts sometimes cite religious reasons, or they talk about hearing God speak to them. Is that so different from people who "hear" God forgiving them? I suppose one criterion would be whether the voice urges good or evil acts, but in any case, why listen to a voice that is simply in your head--a voice whose authenticity we have no way of determining?
On a milder note, what YOU receive from the Bible is clearly not what I receive... and there's a whole continuum in this matter, so we must not overly simplify and be smug about how your belief is the only right one.

Grapes of the Vine, To enjoy your salvation to the fullest without always struggling against sin, you should step out from Calvinism.... They are always struggling against sin forever without improvement... as MacArthur once said: welcome to the club... They are a club whose life is always struggling against sin because they believe the evil doctrine of a murderer who himself is not saved.... Come out from this club and seek JESUS with all your Heart because JESUS is our only Comfort and Assurance and the Only one who can give you joy of being saved... Calvinism can never do that because their doctrine is evil.... I can prove that to you if you are interested.... But for a Start, Listen to this famous Statement of John Calvin... and analyze it well if it is scriptural or not... Because it definitely is not Scriptural and even contradicts the Character of God... Here is his Statement: ''GOD ARRANGES ALL THINGS BY HIS SOVEREIGN COUNSEL, IN SUCH A WAY THAT INDIVIDUALS ARE BORN, WHO ARE DOOMED FROM THE WOMB TO CERTAIN DEATH, AND ARE TO GLORIFY HIM BY THEIR DESTRUCTION.'' NOTE: I have asked several Calvinist to show me a verse that God is glorified by sending people to hell for eternal damnation, and were predestined to suffer eternally before they were even born... They believe that God created some people for the God's purpose to suffer eternally in hell because God is sovereign..... But they cannot give a verse that says so because there is NONE...
I tried reminding my dad of the gospel (the good news) this morning and it was hard because not all who has ears will want listen. Anyway, I’m usually someone that lets anger consume me, but the Holy Spirit was with me , and it allowed me to be patient the whole entire time, not letting my anger possess me. Paul Washer has a very helpful phrase on this subject:
If you love God more than sin, you are probably saved
But if you love sin more than you love God, you are probably lost
A simple way to strive against sin is to "CAP your sin":
C - Confess (right away and very specifically to the Lord)
A - Accept His forgiveness (Jesus Christ paid in full; His righteousness is credited to us by faith)
P - Pray against sin (Depend on the Lord and not our own flesh to overcome sin in the future)
All three steps are important, EVERY TIME we are aware we sin. It is easy to forget steps A or P.
May the Lord grant us all grace to continually strive against sin.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20
“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:11
Paul spoke about this in Romans, saying that as long as a person lives he is under the condemnation of the law, but if he dies the law has no power over him now,
“Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.”
Romans 7:1-2
Jesus also spoke about this to Nicodemus.
“Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
I John 3:9
The new birth CANNOT sin. 1 Peter also talks about this seed,
“having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,”
I Peter 1:23
The seed is incorruptible because it was wrought by God himself through Christ.
Salvation is all by God’s grace, and grace is not of works
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
The great savior did not come to share the glory of accomplishing salvation with you, he came to accomplish it alone and offer it to unworthy sinners.
@@cotydanger4071
To answer your question, "know Him" is salvation.
Amen to all you have said, only you need to move on from Romans 6 & 7 into Romans 8
The flesh cannot keep the Law.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit."
Paul concludes the section by saying lives are changed for true believers:
Romans 8:13-14 "For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
The Bible says: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Could I not boast about how much I love God and how much I hate sin?
Thank you for this Pastor Piper; I was having a rough morning, feeling I have done so little for Jesus' kingdom and, though I hope to do more, this gave me some respite from sorrow. I know Jesus loves us all so much and wants none of us to perish. If His love is perfect, which it is, and He so badly wants us to be with Him in eternity, I know He's working (as is the Holy Spirit) to keep us until the end. I pray that all who are suffering this conviction know that if we trust in Him, He will not let us down; I pray that the Holy Spirit gives all of us strength in our faith and peace while we go through the trials of this life. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith; hold fast to Him and we will all be home soon to His glory!

The fruit of a saved person is other saved people. An apple tree produces apples, an orange tree produces oranges, a Christian produces other Christians.
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise.
Work and therefore fruit are not required for salvation because salvation is “to him that worketh not but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
Calvinists preachers are lying to you.

God is SO Good! Just what I needed before going to bed! Thank You Jesus!!!
When I sin I feel bad maybe at the moment it will feel right but then I get on my knees and pray and ask for forgiveness
I love the deepness of this preaching. I like when he describes what happens in the regenerated heart of the child of God. The Bible is a mirror of our heart. And he preaches it very well.
Faith in Jesus + Repentance = Salvation ! You must be Born Again with Holy Spirit! 💗
Faith in Jesus + Nothing = Salvation. Faith in Jesus + Anything = Nothing. Ephesians 2:8-9.
Faith in Jesus alone saves
What is your definition of repentance.
I am instantly discusted with myself, i cry, i feel seperated and unworthy, i actually don't know if i want to go on anymore disappointing my beautiful Lord.
Me either. Sometimes I just want to die and get it over with.
That would be a contradiction to what Romans 6:14 says:
Romans 6:14
For *sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace.*
Ultimately, you need to abide in Jesus and relate to what this scripture says:
1 John 3:6
Whoever abides in Him [Jesus] *does not sin.* Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
And most definitely, this is true:
Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, *who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.*
So, the person who is indeed not carnal won't be driven to sin because of the power of the flesh and its desires.
@yestothetruth Thank you. It sounds like you are completely sin free, which is a great accomplishment.

This is so true! What an encouragement!
Great word...love the simplicity and conviction of how brother Piper teaches.
Thank you for the video. I've been both presumptuous and despairing at different times regarding my sin and God's grace. So glad I have an advocate and that the Judge is our Dad, otherwise I would be toast.
Actually the presumptuous people are the ones, like these preachers, who claim to know the unknowable.
This is so important, it was everything to me in understanding my salvation.
He has plans for all of us.❤️
Wow. This must be the best sermon that I have ever heard. Praise the Lord our God.
One of the best sermons that I have heard
Thank you so much for this sermon clip, i cried and was comforted by the holy spirit x
Thank you Pastor for such a great teaching, you make everything simple to understand, thank you so much!!
Please pray for me, I’ve been hypocritical and self-righteousness please pray for me.

We all struggle with that from time to time, but just pray and ask the Lord for humility (to be humble), then you will be exalted.

You get a new heart when you are born again. It’s here that his spirit resides. It is a light in exposing your flesh which is continually at war with the new heart. You will know your born again because your new heart will not allow to continue. Doesn’t mean you won’t stumble you just can’t rest or stay in sin.

That is essential:
James 4:7-8
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.
James 1:21-22
21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls [that's repentance]. 22 But be doers of the word [that's faith, which implies obedience], and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.
Hebrews 5:9
And having been made perfect, He [Jesus] became the author of 👉 *eternal salvation to all those who obey Him [...].*
Please stay in the word and obey it (James 1:21-22). The word of God is fuel for your faith. To live as a follower of Jesus you must go out of your way to put the word of God in your heart and keep it there, rejecting all distractions. It's a fight and that's how you need to stand to not fall down. The truth will set you free from all sin (John 8:31-32, 36).
I have faith in in the blood of. Jesus. Becouse his blood payed for my sins. Therefore l believe IN Jesus. Fully persuaded like Abraham.
Jesus loves you!
Amen , keep well away from this heretic.
Save me Lord Jesus.

“You will be saved” often comes to my mind turning prayer do you get that? :)
Wow real great sermon. Thank you. God bless
This is the Gospel of Your Salvation:
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, HOW that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" -- 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV Bible)
No amount of good works can save you, only the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross can -- only his BLOOD can erase your sins.

Richard Bennett I came to watch this video because I do not have assurance of my salvation bc I am stumbling and not killing the sin in my life out of my love for Jesus and saying Jesus is more most of the time
and I’m not putting to death what is earthly in me and fighting my sin daily hourly secondly.
So if you seek him you'll know he is in you. Then, Ask yourself do you think this sin is more powerful than God? Not a chance!
Piper ... I’m holding back my anger ... please pray for me brothers and sisters . I’m close to giving up
Release anger. Give it to God.
May the Lord come and rescue His church
Blessings.

Such a proof of the unconditional love He has for His creation truly is something that trenscends our fallen human minds.
