my mom and i were literally looking a bluetooth radio and i was looking for a back up camera for my first car, and im really glad i found this video
How'd it go lol
@@tonyprokop290 lol we ended up going with a different option
@@ChrissyJHoward What option did you go with?
I’m excited for your Tahoe project! I have a 2005 Yukon XL. It was my dad’s and he gave me the keys to it when I graduated high school with the condition that I’ll be the one maintaining it. Tune up, transmission service, differential service, u-joints, shocks, new tires, brake pads (changed for the first time after 140k miles) and rotors all done. 204k miles and still strong. I learned most of these things from UA-cam videos like yours! Keep up the good work and great content! Makes me want to start fixing all the buttons that don’t light up anymore, upgrading my OG stereo and changing my steering wheel too!
These trucks will run forever , mine has 315k miles, I have a check engine light but that’s because I need to change my manifold intake gaskets and one of my o2 sensors. But other then that she runs strong
Christeon Z. Burkett thats what his problem is for sure
They really do I have a 2000 GMC Yukon with 94k miles runs like the first day I bought her new
Chris Brown you haven’t even hit 100k truck is hardly broken in. get back to us when you get at least 200k.
Cameron Walker Awesome will do! It took me 19 years to hit 94k so I guess 19 more years I’ll reply back on here!!! Thank you!
Christeon Z. Burkett you wasting a lot of gas with that faulty o2 sensor huh?
Those geese were going nuts
I don't know how I ended up here, watched your whole video because I was so thrilled to see the result and wow, what a good job, I admire your patience and skills :-) I learned some stuff today.
26:00 squirrel almost falls from roof in the background 🤣🤣
ELove352 lmao never noticed that😂
lol
😂
Lmaooo played it back at .25
@Michael Baylor hack attempt if someone tries it. Both this account and the one below claiming to have tried it were both created 5 days ago 😅😅😅😅 Nice try mr bot
I had that same backup camera on my suburban, it gave me a lot of trouble fogging up and getting hit while loading up the cargo area. I just ended up buying a small stainless steel housing camera on Amazon and mounted it just under the bumper but above the hitch receiver. It's been really good so far.
You are a great motivator to update older cars. Great work!
Just bought a 2003 GMC Yukon with 177,000 miles. Great truck. And I will hopefully be doing this install in the next couple of weeks. New subscriber here!
28:05 the sound when your bout to get killed lol
Yes!! , Finally something that looks like it was supposed be there this is exactly what I want for my Tahoe.
Love these suburban videos! I just got my 08 Yukon XL the other day. This is getting me pumped up on fixing mine up
Great job on this video and install! I've done two of these in my Suburban and Silverado and the one additional step I like to take is replacing the cigarette lighter with an in-dash USB port. You can also get one with HDMI if you have that coming out of the head unit. I really makes for a clean install and then you just need a standard USB cable to your phone.
Amazing video! Thank you for taking your time to make a good video showing the actual process of installation
I have the same Sony radio and have had it for about a year now. Love it! It’s simple and clean like you said! It made my 2010 GMC Sierras interior really pop! I have no complaints with it at all
Very easy way to test your intake manifold gaskets will be to spray some water during a cold start. If the engine shakes more the gasket is leaking once it warms up the material expands. I would recommend doing knock sensors while you’re in there they tend to get corroded over time with the short harness
Love this guy! Matt makes it look easy. Thanks for posting these videos as they are extremely helpful for future ideas. Appreciate it brother!
I splice everything to the trailer harness. It’s easily accessible and makes the process way quick.
Dude thank you for having this video ive been looking aimlessly through UA-cam and all the videos I can find get me no where. I have an 06 F150 but you explained enough to understand what needs to happen! Thank you!
Is there anything car wise that LSX Matt can't do? I really enjoy all of your content. I subscribed to your channel last year beginning with the LSX Camaro. Gen 3 is my favorite body style hands down. I did own a Gen 2 '80 Z28 which I loved, but there is just something about those 3rd gen. I have enjoyed watching the Tahoe videos, and I cannot wait to see what you do with the Trans Am. I think your channel is just going to continue to grow. I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors.
I subscribed because I have an 02 yukon that was gifted to me by a friend. Even with owning an 04 avalanche back in the day and knowing most of this already, I enjoy watching this and learning about my ol' girl.
Thx for the content Matt.
Great video Matt,we had a 02 Tahoe 4×4 4.8 we never had a problem with it except for the knock sensors and a water pump, and or had over 180,000 miles on it,these are very reliable SUVs, hey yours looks great,we bought a 2013 Escalade ESV and we have had several issues with it versus the Tahoe hey man keep the vids coming!
Sweet I’ve been trying to do this to my 09 impala this was very informative
I have the issue on my 99 silverado. That is one of the few issues with the generation LS engines. Might want to replace the knock sensors and wiring harness while you are in there.
Intake gaskets are leaking. Very common on high mileage
@@NODAK9 I'm assuming Police pursuit vehicle. Not sure what the ssv is, but usually the PPV's have good maintenance records even though they get abused...lol. I personally would snatch one up in a heartbeat. The Ls is a fantastic powerplant other than the DOD system....
@@NODAK9 I'd still pick one up and either turn off the DOD with HP Tuners, or put a better cam and lifters and still get a tune. And just drive it. That's the biggest flaw I see in the shop...
2 thumbs up it is the gasket.
Yes, my guess is intake manifold gasket. If never replaced, I'd go ahead and replace the o2 sensors too. Same thing happened to my suburban. But in addition to the engine light, it ran very rough until the temp gage started moving.
Mines does this exact same thing
We just bought a 2005 GMC Yukon SLT loaded with options for $1300, it did have a loud whining noise coming from the front differential so we replaced it with one out of a wrecking yard that was in very good shape it was difficult to find one with the correct 4:10 gear ratio that was also all wheel drive.
We are enjoying your videos and we are planning to do many of the same things to ours so thank you for blazing the way for us and showing us how your doing everything your doing to your Tahoe, please keep up the great work.
your videos have helped me so much with my yukon. thanks Matt!
Nice install. Nice music. Lol...you kilt me with the "wth" when those geese flew by. Sounded just like me, lol.
nice video matt. these are the kind of videos that i enjoy watching.
I was watching this while playing WOW and when 28:05 happened I started to panic.
Austin Cheatham lmao I didn’t even have to go back & look at the time to know you were talking about the geese lol
Lol i thought i was the only one
The Birds
I got nervous too also playing WoW 😂
Dawg, I'm doing the exact same thing
Thanks for doing this video. I have an 04 Z71 Tahoe with 220k on it. I installed a cheaper Dual unit with apple carplay yesterday with back up camera. Knew exactly what I needed and where to run the wires with you mr detailed instructions.
28:05 LOL cool video bro i just subscribed
I’m glad my truck came with a reverse wire in the trailer lights connection and I just wired to to that. Power and ground in one wire
V8 For A Heart what type of truck do you have? I wonder if my 2007 Avalanche has that wire.....
I’m getting ready to do this to my truck and I didn’t even think about the trailer connections thanks :)
Flip Tha Don sorry for the super late reply. Probably redundant to reply now but just in case. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500. It came with the wire as part of a weird extra towing package. You should check owners manual. In my case it’s a Blue wire with a male connector. It’s Separate from the tow connector
Got an ad from Ford "considering buying a Chevy tahoe? Check out the Ford SUVs" LOL
Racinq it’s funny because 3 months later I got the same ad for a Ford Expedition
Id rather have a Ford..
Yoooo the geese 🤣🤣🤣 we both said WTH at the same time 😂 Awesome vid! Can’t wait to get this radio and install it in my Chevy Tahoe 😊🙌🏻 throwing in the rear view camera and stuff was a plus! Thanks 🙏🏻
That's a nice setup! Thanks for the great videos!
Your Videos are great. I just purchased a 2004 Tahoe Z71 and all the videos you do are very informative and detailed. Thank you very much. You're a very smart person.
Per a few comments. My Tahoe threw a few misfire codes n after all it came down to bad O2 sensor. Love the upgrades you gave to your Tahoe!
Lol @ all the geese flying by near the end 😂 good vid too friend
04 Yukon xl with 211k miles. Runs great. Engine light on, ordering my knock sensors. Changing that first.
nice Tahoe really clean look. I must say, I too was having the same problems with the early morning cold starts. my Tahoe would tremble a bit and the engine light would show up a while.
nice video. i just did a pioneer radio in my wife’s trailblazer. i replaced the broken factory bose radio and it made a huge difference. the sound is so much better.
Hey dude, very nice videos. The codes following a diagnostic flow, this this common the 1 half of the engine. Being old school, I use my 80’s propane enrichment tool with a length of brake tubing to get into tight places. The fuel pressure regulator is common to all cylinders. Use a fused jumper wire and a cheap “Lab Scope” to view the fuel pumps wave form, that should pull 7.5 amp, but with an even stabile waveform. “Tech Tip” If doing intake gaskets, place a thin coat of dielectric grease on both sides. This not only helps with 2K seal, but allows the silicone seals to slide and move a little.
Just a tip. Nice job on the videos and I understand most don’t have a “Lab Scope” in the garage. But at the dealer, I used the primary side of the engine scope, only buying an amp probe. As each commutator plate passes under the spring loaded brush, conducts amperage thru it. Pressure is easy as controlled by the regulator. Every time you fill the tank, their is dust, dirt unless an EVAP failure like driving dirt roads. If you replace the tank solenoid because it can’t seal, place a foam/cloth filer over it as it is open all of the time, until it runs an EVAP test for small or larger leaks. Good video.
Wow this guy is a genius everything was neat and on point great job
Be glad you went with single din. Just took out the whole radio and heater cradle and had to do do some cutting. Had it forever just sticking out but since it's cooled down a little I decided to do it the right way. Now a flat and flush install.
Bruh who else saw them 3 Blink-182 tpj albums and that he was listening to Box Car Racer? What a man of culture
Nice playlist in the end there Haha looked up some of them, great driving tunes 😃
Hell yeah another vid. Love ur channel 🙂🙂
I bought a 2006 Tahoe a year and a half ago. It’s since been totalled but I did have a persistent P 300 code that kept coming up and I could not figure out why. I realized that ot was in a narrow rpm (2500-3000) range that the check engine light would come one and after a lot of Internet research I found that it may have been a camshaft or crankshaft position sensor relearn being required by the ECU. I took it to the local Chevy dealer and they wanted to charge me $80 for a diagnostic and then proceeded to say it needed a $150 tuneup. I asked them to check the camshaft/crankshaft position sensor relearned and they did in fact relearn it which got rid of that code. It was a pain. That required the dealer computer. I’m not sure if HPTuner would work.
i just got my first car and it’s a 2011 honda pilot. i’m planning to do some things to it and two things i wanna do are install apple car play and a back up camera. thank you for posting this video man. my almost ten year old car about to feel brand new😎
I don't know if you solved your engine light problem but I ran into the same issue in my Yukon where the light would talk about lean bank issues with 1 and 2. I tried changing out the fuel pump and filter and that didn't fix it. Eventually figured out it was the FlexFuel module going bad. They're about $300 online so I went to the junkyard and bought one for $8 and the light went out. I also gave it a Seafoam treatment through the PCV valve and the truck seriously runs like new. Anyway, thanks for all the videos. All have been very helpful and we appreciate the time you put into them.
It turned out to be the intake gaskets!
That looks super clean!
I love the dashboards of old Tahoe's its geared towards the driver so cool
Agreed
Just added the backup camera to my 2006 GMC Yukon. Actually easier than it looks. Thanks again Matt.
You have done an awesome job with the Tahoe. Keep making videos!
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for this upload, it was very thorough.
New to your channel but I love your content bro!
In the 50’s, maybe 60’s coming. It was like 88 here in Orlando today and we were sweating installing a Gibson exhaust on my brothers ‘16 Tahoe😂
Wow this is great! Thanks for sharing this. I wanted to update an old 06 yukon to get bluetooth and backup camera. A guy wants $900 including a basic double din & camera. With patience and this video, I feel confident I can do this myself, thanks for sharing!
Great job man! Nice video!
I’m wondering if it’s just all mechanics having an ocd lol my husband has to get it exactly perfect if he’s doing anything lol and if he’s working on his 86 z28 Camaro forget about it if it doesn’t look PERFECT he’ll be outside all night lol..
I have the same back up camera and haven’t had a problem yet and I’ve had it since the summer
For my radio I got the PAC kit for the steering wheel controls without onstar then I just wired the mic that came with my deck to the onstar mic.
I had a Pioneer installed in my 2004 Envoy, it had to use the adapter harness as well. I thought with keeping steering wheel controls the adapter would utilize the factory microphone built in with the OnStar, I was wrong. The installer mounted the mic right at instrument cluster, did not like the look of it there. Found a nice back up camera on Amazon to use, but again the installer instead of running wire through the factory rubber grommet that had the wires for tag lights and rear wiper/washer, he drilled through the sides of it and ran wire beside it. The adapter harness chime sounded awful. I had it all taken it back and had them remove the aftermarket radio and re-install factory radio, just was not satisfied with the look. Wish the installer would have said " hey this is how this will look, this is what I have to do, etc" I would have returned the stereo then so he would not have installed it. The Pioneer radio was great, sounded good, but the small buttons and trying to work it caused some distraction while driving so it was not worth it to me.
More views then subs! Great video bro
Thanks! I have a 1996 GMC Sierra that I want to do this to and this video revealed a lot of what I need to do.
So we’re exactly did you put the parking brake line (green wire) I know it won’t let you use car play with out that connection. I don’t want to just put it to a ground source.
Does your Tahoe have the stock 8"woofer in the back if so are you doing an upgrade I bought a 2005 but don't think it has one but I definitely want to add one.
Thanks chris
Hey I just want to say thanks for sharing this i’m getting ready to do the same thing with mine.
Find some Taylor wires and acdelco coils. I had to do that no more misfire as well helped clear the o2 sensor as well
What’s the model of the tahoe?
I have a 2002 ls and it’s so different in more ways than i thought to other year models.
That sony radio fits right in. Love it.
The moment that screw fell I was like f**k lol!! I had moments like those before. Love your videos keep it up lol your tempting me to go buy a used Tahoe between the years of 01 to 05 and restore it no matter how many miles it has
I have a 2004 z71 with 300 000 with same issues changed the 02 sensors no problems run like new
When u do intake gaskets you might as well do knock sensors while your there
Yes and the oil sending unit. Much easier to reach without the intake manifold
There's a tsb on knock sensors getting water in the valley says to make a dam around them With rtv
@@Bhunt13579 Had that problem on my 02 Suburban. The front knock sensor was submerged in water. It looked like the Titanic when I pulled it out.
Part of the problem is the sound deading foam under the intake manifold. It holds the water. My suggestion is to replace the intake manifold with a TBSS manifold. Apply some heat barrier on the bottom side of it, replace the foam, and the knocksensors. TheTBSS manifold is the best cathedral port stock manifold period. The money aftermarket manifold that will out perform it is the fast LSXTR manifold. You will need to keep your stock injectors and use the TBSS TB with adapter harness. Then go to speed engineering for their CAI (got mine for $50). If you do that and tune it, you can thank me later
Because I’m a ‘gadget guy’ [at 68 years old] I want a car stereo like this…no brass, no bells and whistles…just like what YOU have here in this video. BUT! Seeings how my GMC SIERRA EXTENDED CAB truck is 22 years old, and, I’ll be buying a Pleasureway Lexor camper van (Promaster)to live out the rest of my life ‘back’ on the road (retired 38 year veteran truck driver) soon I’ll have to wait! Great video, good information, and, to the point! Stay safe! ~Jim from Houston Texas~
Agree , intake manif. gaskets. Dealer has an improved design gasket set. And, yes, do knock sensors while in there. Also rubber grommets at the intake bolt stations. My Tahoe would run rough on initial cold startup ....lean...vacuum leak at intake gaskets.....same DTC. Easy fix. Spray inside of plastic manif. with carb cleaner a couple of times to soften the crud and blast the inside at a coin car wash/power washer. Have fun. I’d also service the tranny immediately. Drop-the -pan technique....not back-flush technique. Back flush pushes filter gunk back into the system and the filter doesn’t get changed. Bad choice. Top off fluid with a synthetic. I know you know this stuff. Do diffs and transfer case fluids too. Coolant too. Just unsolicited advice from an old man. 250K on my 2001 Tahoe and it tows my equipment trailer...dual axles 4500# loaded with my carpentry tools.....5 days a week. Original 5.3 engine/trans/transfer case/diffs. Bummer is that rust is starting in usual Tahoe locations. I’ve gone through all the mechanicals including ABS module....send the circuit board to Module Masters. Cold solder joints in circuit board of said module is a classic failure with this series of truck. Mechanical fixes are straight forward but rust...that’s a pisser. I don’t weld. Should I spend the dough for a pro to do it or slick it up, sell and move on? Ideally, I’d like a rust free Z 71 with a toasted engine and swap in a LQ9 ...6.0 ..345 horses. These are great vehicles. Comfy. Cheap parts, lots of aftermarket parts options. Another thing I did.was clean the dirt from behind the weather stripping on the body . I placed 1/4” thick 1” wide peel and stick foam behind the weatherstripping which tightens up the door to weatherstrip fit. Eliminated wind noise. Also, replace the heating/cooling system filters under the dash. I’m enjoying your vids. Dave Heitman Semper Fidelis
Great video. this will definitely help me with my install on my escalade ext. just wondering, does the steering wheel seek and source buttons work? Can you skip songs using the steering wheel buttons?
Did you ever post the review for the radio? I have an '06 Tahoe and I want to do the same type of things but am torn over what system to use
Love the hoodie! Nice install !
Dude came out great look clean af
Thank you for soldering properly (even though you did them a bit odd xD) you just installed better than 95% of shops out there.
I just got a 05 Tahoe with 102k for a steal I think I’m going to do this same set and always love seeing your videos especially the camaro I have 2 of those haven’t got the courage to LS swap yet but that’s the plan for at least one of them
I love these Video so much ❤👑
Really enjoy your videos, I recently purchased a 95 Tahoe with 172000 mi. for $1000. I am following your work with the intention of doing much the same for my truck. just a curious thought is why would you lower the truck, especially living in an area that gets a lot of snow ?
Ran mine up to the arm rest Matt. Dint want to have to reach so far.. great vid
That looks insane! could you maybe post a picture or make a short vid of how you did all the connections? was it easy and did the instructions tell you exactly what to do? I want to do this but looks complicated
Did you ever figure it out
Would love to see a 3 month update vid on the stereo. Any glitches you have experienced and what you did to resolve them. Thanks man!!
Great video. I installed a pioneer version in my Acura. Does the Sony let you toggle between the backup cam while your parked? That’s the only thing I’m not able to do
I love the older tahoe/suburban! That model year to be specific. ^.^
Every time I run a multi cylinder misfire it usually ends up being a crank or cam sensor and sometimes possibly a ignition module on a gm product.
Thank you for this information!!
I have a 2002 Silverado 1500. It has 156k miles on it. I’ve spent around $3k on problems since I bought it a year ago. Had to replace fan clutch, alternator, brake lines, spark plugs, 16 push rods, 16 rocker arms, both rear brake rotors, all rear brake pads, one rear brake caliper, intake leak, and a few other things I can’t remember.. Coolant started leaking into the engine at some point, not good! Put some coolant leak sealant into it and it no longer leaks for now. Now the engine light is back on. Engine still makes a nice ticking sound all the time even with all the crap I’ve done. This truck has been nothing but trouble for me since I bought it.. previous owners must not have cared much for it.
Doing this install now. Don’t know if anyone has mentioned it but the PAC unit has a signal wire for reverse built in so you don’t have to tap into the reverse light.
Thanks Matt, this video made installing the double din and backup cam in my suburban a breeze.
Curious, could you use that usb cable to attach a qui charger and mount it in the deep pocket, for your iPhone?
You got a sub from me 🤙🏽! Great video I will be following the journey
Dude are you close to Pensacola, I have a 2002 Ford Explorer that needs this upgrade and could use your help. Lol
Matt, curious why you didn’t use the mic already located in the headliner of these trucks (I’m guessing they are for Onstar? Seems it would be easier than adding the additional mic. Great vid!
Yet another excellent video. I like the way your confidence is very reassuring, Even when you aren't 100% sure that exactly what step you're at is going as it should, you let the viewer know it can and will be solved. This is really important because so many of us are so afraid we'll screw things up we never even try. That's what we in the Royal Navy call "A life lesson."*
One of the most comforting things to those of us similarly afflicted (blessed?) is how your OCD keeps everything looking professional. Most people think, "Radio, good. Me make loud now." You give thought to the fact that it won't be switched on 100% of the time, so it should LOOK good, too. Choosing a simple design - very subtle but clever, and refitting the mount with a couple of washers so the bezel fit better with less gap, top marks.
Thanks for another superb video! Now, if you can make one on how to get Apple Carplay on one of those cheap $49 Amazon wonders you installed in the Malibu...
*...I'm not really in the Royal Navy.
