I am a man as well and have been a mechanic / electrician / fabricator for most of my life. I enjoy sewing. It is very much like welding. Taking small bits and fastening them together to make something useful.

Hello from Sunny Florida USA , I'm in the marine business " marine electrician " and decided to buy an industrial machine, and I chose the Sailright Fabricator. I looked long and hard at industrial machines , and watched tons of UA-cam reviews on all the other name brand machines like Juki and so on . One of the things that impressed me was that sailright has a separate dept. in the Midwest US that receives these machines and fully checks them and tunes them, checking quality of every rotating part and calibrating them. You mentioned your machine sows very slow , if you look in your owners manual on page 4 " servo speed settings " you will see you stitches per minute guide . Your Fabricator is capable of 1,108 stitches per minute just increase the number on the servo motor , also you can shorten the pedal to servo rod to save time by taking up travel of the pedal before sewing. You will still have that great slow start and control but really good stitching speed when you have a longer seam. These machines are highly prized in America and hold their value, you seldom see a used one for sale , and when you do they are only a few hundred dollars off of the new price because they last forever .
Glad you like it. Just to confirm I’m happy it stitches slow as when working with leather you want a slow but powerful stitch. You’re right though. It’s very easy to increase the speed.
Do you think Adam would ever get his own youtube channel? Would love to see leather designs, denim and cowhide etc blends and cross body and backpacks/slings etc using this machine and your awesome patterns!
Yay! So excited for you and to have another UA-cam content maker with this machine! I have had mine for a year now and really have loved it. Sews through so many layers of vinyl like butter.

Great video. 1 tip I would offer. Buy a couple of extra bobbin housings and set the tension for different threads, and materials. That way you can change the housing instead of “mucking about” with the tension every time you change from heavy to light.
That’s a great tip!! At some point I will place another order with Sailrite and I’ll do this.

I just purchased the Fabricator after comparing it to the Industrial machines being used by most of the bag makers I watch. The Fabricator not only handles thin to heavy layers, it actually cost less than the Juki D1181NU that I compared it to. It doesn’t have the NP that I hoped for, but it does have a stitch regulator and will stitch slowly (1/2 stitch at a time) like you mention here. I’ve only had mine set up for a few days now and am still in the learning/practicing/adjusting stage. Thank you so much for this review and info.

I've had the Sailrite Ultrafeed basic package for about 6 years and love it. I did get the monster wheel which delivers added power. If you can get it under the foot, it will sew thru. I like that it is about the size of a regular machine and is portable. For some reason, I also like the fact that you can just hand crank it. No electricity needed. No idea why this is important, never have had to use it in 'real life' but just like that it's there.

I love mine. I have had it for a couple of years and it does everything I ask of it. The only thing I do not like is the bobbin winder. I have had nothing but problems with it. So I bought stand alone bobbin winder. That works for me. I don't have the laminated table. The presser foot goes very high. I would never buy anything else after using mine. The customer service is stellar. If you are using the 3/8 ths just get some electrical tape and take off the plate and put it over and down under the plate then put it back on. It really works like a pro.

I have had this machine for 2 years now and I love it! I also prefer the narrow foot. I'm thinking about trying the binding attachment at some point. I am in the US and only a couple of states away from Sailrite so for me it was a no brainer going with this machine and such a friendly and supportive company. I don't have a problem with the plate markings - I just eyeball 3/8" seam allowance between a 1/4" and 1/2".
That’s I what I tend to do most of the time. I’ll be looking to the binding attachment soon I think 😁
I have the blue ultra feed. I bought the magnetic seam guide and with that I can get a 3/8 inch seam.
I’m jealous. Been looking at that one too. Sailrites videos for sewing cushions, etc are wonderful also.
They are good. Cushions is a future project actually
I love my Ultrafeed. Customer service is great and can usually get an answer within minutes. I had to somewhat put my machine together. I was slightly intimidated but the instructions were easy to follow. There are videos for just about any question or problem. My light is magnetic and detachable. There's an outlet on the back of my machine so any light can be plugged into it. I wanted the Fabricator but space was a slight issue so I went with the Ultrafeed which didn't disappoint. Adam isn't the only one that wanted it for the color. But this blue is the next best thing. Lol. Not having a 5/8 or 3/8 on the plate is a bummer but that's me reaching for something negative. Can't wait to see more videos of this machine.
We agree. The plate problem is us trying to find faults because there are barely any at all! 😆 Sailrites video support is absolutely amazing. We’ve been really impressed the whole way though. Now we just need one of those magnetic lights!
I got the magnetic seam guide for my ultra feed. You can use that to get your 3/8 or 5/8 seam allowance. It works great for that.
Congrats on the new machine. I was sad to hear you got rid of the singer, I was hoping to see more videos with that machine.
We were sad to see it go. We just didn’t have any room but it went to someone who was going to use it
Really interesting - I also own two machines (Juki and a Husquavarna) and I switch between them all the time depending on what I am sewing.
I have a Bernina 930 Record and sew vinyl wallets. She does very well! I have been told she will sew soft leather. Vintage sewing machines are fantastic and not to be underestimated! 😊 I have 6 dating from a 1940's Singer treadle to a 1970's Kenmore. I would use my Singer 301 and 430a for all my bag making except they don't have the space, the presser feet don't always accommodate thicker layers and they don't like heavier thread.

Great machine. I thought about getting that one but I bought the Ultra Feed and I love it. I got the blue one with the zigzag. I had problems winding the bobbin cause I was doing it wrong. I like that it’s small, still heavy, and I don’t have to miss with an oil pan. I really like your machine. Some of us who don’t like to miss with the tension or thread changing we have two of the same machine. Kind of expensive if you don’t like to take the time to make changes on the machine. Why complain just buy another one for cotton fabric. LOL
Why stop at 2 machines. Just get 3 😜
The magnetic one is fine but I agree it does catch the wonder clips. I have a Jack h2 and I bought a plate with quarter, half and three-quarter markings on it. It was a simple straight swap over, didn't need to do feed dogs.

Nice knife sheaths that can handle both a nice pocket knife and hold a small tactical flashlight all of which can be slid onto a guy’s Jean belt loop would be awesome! Those types of items sell well🙂
You could get a magnetic tape measure that has all the measurements on it. Then you could utilise both sides of the foot depending on what you are making. Great info provided, thank you.

So far my Fabricator will grind out anything I put under the foot. Only thing it lacks is zig zag for sail work.
How are needle sizes adjusted? I was given a JUKI LU-563 (QUITE similar to Fabricator) and it is very frustrating to change from small needles to LARGE. On JUKI the hook is "top-loading", on Fabricator it's "Side-Loading". JUKI is more appropriate for "production runs" and Fabricator appears to be similar? JUKI LU-563 is 1960 vintage and drops the oil-pan in favor of "strips" to transfer oiling points because the machine adjusts EVERYTHING from underneath! JUKI was changed to 750Watt Servo-Motor (with Gear-Reduction) to accommodate leather speeds. I only have the JUKI LU-563 because it was FREE and given to me due to frustration with "production-run" setup.

I have a domestic ( oldie ) a Juki 8700 and a Thor 1541s - and I use them all ! I really have a thing for good equipment , but alas I am out of space . Lol .
Thank you for the best review of this machine, or any industrial machine, for that matter, that I've found. And BTW I agree with Adam that aesthetics DO matter... and the Fabricator is drop-dead gorgeous! So here's my question: I'm a DIY/MYOG guy, mostly focused on sewing outdoor gear, e.g., backpacks and the like. I'm comparing the Fabricator with the Juki 1541. Would you recommend this machine over a Juki for that application, and if so, why? Cheers!
To be honest I’ve never used a Juki so I couldn’t compare the two.
I do know that the Fabricator will handle it fine but would thought the Juki would be fine as well. A lot will depend on the price you can source it and availability. The Fabricator looks better though 😂
My vote is for another backpack please, all my sewing has given me shoulder problems and I can’t carry totes! I know my shoulder issues are really common amongst sewists( of a certain age, maybe) 🤣. Thanks for another great video. Xx

Good machine, I have the consew1206rb its twin. Sailrite support, parts, service, videos on how to. They even show you how to fix, and adjust your machine. You pay but you get lots of support. Best game in town.

Oh me again ! Since Adam is “ handy “ maybe the best idea would be to use a Dremel tool to etch a 3/8 mark ? My husband could do it , I bet Adam could . He’s going to love this machine .

Hi Adam, thanks for your video!! I'm looking for a leather sewing machine. I took a class and used a Cobra class 4 machine, which was great for a gusset, Have you done a gusset on the sailrite? And how did it look? Thanks
I’ve done gussets on the Sailrite but only with soft leather and with a wide gusset. I’ve tried stiff heavy leather and narrow gussets and it’s comes out very messy. For that sort of you need a cylinder arm machine
Another good video from you, I have the a walking foot machine, a jack h2, and I love it. One question for you.. because I’m afraid changing the tension, Im getting a tight stitch underneath my fabric, it’s not equal enough… basically you can see the top thread underneath, how do I rectify it? Like a lot people I’m afraid to touch it. What do you do? Any advice would be appreciated, it would be great if you did a video on how you change your settings on your machine. Btw, I love your brushed brass hardware, I’ve bought a few from you. Shirley uk
Thanks for nice words. On my machine the bottom tension knob control the main tension but the top tension knob helps to adjust the placement of the knot so it sits in the centre of the layers so you only see on thread on each side. If it’s underneath I find I need to increase my tension a little. How that helps. It’s mostly guess work with still. I practise on a scrap piece first when I need to change my tension
I do all of my bags on my Sailrite. Quilt cotton to 5-6 oz leather

@@jakemiter227 fabricator. I've packed up the lsz-1 but I'm not ready to sell it. The lsz-1 is a great portable but it doesn't compare to the fabricator. I have more room to work a bag with the fabricator.
@@jakemiter227 I have just as much in the lsz-1. With table, extra feet, and worker bee. I sew everything with the narrow foot on the fabricator.
O and on the base plate with no markings, try and take it somewhere that does engraving, and they will engrave the quarter inch etc for you. I was lucky as the juki 118 dn is the same as the jack h2 so I replaced mine with a juki plate. It changed my sewing experience.

Yes, it looks amazing. Of course in case if the rest working space's design match to it. Unfortunately, if you plan to use more different industrial equipment, you won't it in the same design.
I have the other light , and it’s still to dark, so I put a strip of led lights on the under side and it worked perfectly. I wish that I had done the upgrade because of the nicer table.

I think there is a clear sticky plastic film that you can place down on the base of the machine that has seam markings. I have seen it on quilting sites. Or, you could make your own. Do you have to use a hump-jumper with the narrow foot?
It’s rare I use a jumper on my machine. The foot “walks” over the different layers really well. But every now and again it comes in handy.
I’m not sure this is so, but I’ve heard that the machine is not oiled from the oil tray adequately if you always sew slowly. The speed sewing more adequately gets the oil up to the working parts. Do you think there is any truth to this? I’m thinking of getting one, but I never sew fast
I’m quite often sewing slow but don’t have any issues. When you get it Sailrite include a full manual showing how to maintain the machine. This includes a suggestion to occasionally manually oil certain parts about the walking foot mechanism. As they highlight the slow stitching in marketing I would be surprised if this caused oiling issues.
Yeah, if I could I ' d take the Fabricator. I have the Ultrafeed for round about 6 years. There's just no space to an industrial machine with integrated table. I am waiting for the workerB motor to be ready for the European plug and I hope, that in combination with my monster wheel I might have more control. I think I might get better machines for the money as shipping from the US to Europe makes them really expensive. But I don't want these special motors that require special electricity.
Try the daylight slimline 3 light. They have a website. Best light for sewing!

For the plate try just laying a flat fridge magnet like the ones business can put their business cards on for measuring

The book said flip the machine over and loose some but when I got my machine together the push and turn button won’t even go to three or two
They sell tape with measurement markings that you can put on your plate.

Looking for a machine that I can sew quilt tops with a walking foot for even feed. Can you adjust the machine to sew cotton fabrics with out puckering or ripples. I will be setting up a business for humanitarian projects and will need at least 4 machines so my choice will be based on experiences from people who actually work with them. Thanks
The machine comes with instructions to set it up to be used for cotton and lightweight materials.
But if you’re only sewing cotton I would say this machine is an expensive option and I’m sure there will be cheaper machines better suited

My only problem is I feel as an industrial machine vs the ultra feed... It doesn't take much bigger (1 size bigger?) Than the LS1... Other machines can take much larger thread
I’ve used Tex 135 thread on the Fabricator with great success. It’s pretty big thread. I’m not sure you’d ever need to use anything larger than Tex 135?
@@CountryCowDesigns if I ever make a horse saddle 🤣😅🤣... Which would be never... I think sometimes watching videos there is an optical illusion.... I see the thread and think it's really thick then ask what size it is and it will be Tex 70
Take your plate to an engraver or someone with a laser machine. They can make the markings for you.
