So after 4YMM and many other examples, it's clear that vertical music levels are possible and this video is very wrong. However, even though it's possible it takes a lot more planning and testing and the level always requires a starting fall or scrolling to get the notes setup, so you couldn't ever have music start from checkpoint, it'd need the preparation scrolling to get everything working
It'd be cool if you made a video where you provided tips on how to make music levels like this, though. Just because the video is outdated and it IS possible to make music levels with vertical areas even if it's harder than with horizontal areas doesn't mean you should insist on discouraging us from giving it a try
I will have this pinned comment for anyone who posts an actual vertical music level! If you post a level id that isn't a vertical music level I'll delete it. There is someone who was able to create vertical Music Levels successfully. I forgot the name of the creator, but I seen the vertical music level in one of Juzcooks videos. The only vertical Music level I can think of I can think of right now, is the Bowser Fight music from Super Mario 64. If Nintendo added the editor mode on levels that we downloaded, we could probably see how the setups work. But anyways, great video!
Great video Danny! I love when you make music level videos. I'm an Music Creator w/18K Maker Points, so I absolutely love seeing our genre of levels get this kind of love! I'm friends with a "technical" creator who specializes in creating glitches and machines, but he also specializes in Music Track Levels too. He's working on some music levels that actually take advantage of the vertical system, so it's pretty interesting! :)
thanks man, if you create any vertical music levels comment the ID and I'll add it to my pinned comment since most of them are really cool and underappreciated
@@DannyBPlays You did good, you made someone (like me) who knows nothing about music in Mario Maker (and nothing about music in real life) actually able to follow and understand!
I've always wondered this! Even when i was making my music courses I was wondering if my songs would be able to go into a vertical section but I just decided it might be to hard to make it work lol. Great and informative video Danny, keep it up 👍
This maker: 0S6-VFJ-S7G Some examples of theirs: MJK-NPJ-2PF K5Y-7DQ-4KG J5W-071-L0H The creator Jimzan immediately comes to mind. While track-based music loop contraptions are very much a thing (although difficult to construct), this creator seems to take full advantage of long falls in vertical levels as a loading mechanism for longer and more complex music loops. They're truly something to behold.
except... you can make something more complex with the player falling from high up in a vertical section, spawning every music blocks you need for the song in the right order. (through trial and error) then simply adjust the timing between each notes and you can play the music just right (the set up might look cluthered, but you won't see any of that when the music starts playing) There was a trick in early SMM2 that allowed you to put your instruments on top of a vertical section, since you could use global ground from up there, but Nintendo patched it when the 2.0.0 came out. To get the same result now, you have to make the notes get on screen in the reverse order that they play. When you stop falling, there is a huge delay before the music starts playing because the notes would have to fall all the way down after they got placed in the right order (explaining why the notes have to be set on screen that way)
Its odd how vertical levels do not use the exact opposite loading of horizontal levels. I really just expected them to have both horizontal screens loaded then the three blocks above and below screen to be loaded. This would have been simpler tbh
Hey, there is a vertical level where you do a survival room, but in the meantime, it plays bergentrucking and asgore while you survive, so it is technically a vertical music level!
It’s quite amateur but this becomes a vertical music loop once you get through the pipe somehow. Although poorly done, the idea is awesome. And it demonstrates that vertical music loops can cram a lot more music notes that a horizontal loop. And it’s daft punk. 4MP-9W4-69G
did you make the level? It does a great job of showing how a looping song can be done, but yuck the puzzle is annoying. I got through the pipe but didn't care for the rest of it. I would add it to my pin of vertical music levels but I agree that the non-music part of this level was poorly done
So one time i even tried building a vertical music level myself. (Long before this video) and i made just upgoing tracks you have a limited screen with scrolling and left are 3 tracks right are 3 but it was too much trying and so i not finished making it. But that would be the best way try it
And i just wantedto build this back then that people see it is possible vertically (people would give more stars because it is a new way and an innovation) even if there are just 6 notes which just go at the height 3 5 7 9 11 13 and its possible to 28 i think (normal is 27)
The best vertical music level I’ve played is Go Seigen’s Eternal Lullaby, it’s kind of a tough level (it took me about 45 minutes to beat) but the level is awesome! Also probably one of my favorite dark levels as well
Fixed ascent, with one note block per note, following you up... Would still be sub optimal for a music level but might be an interesting concept anyway
"Most of the notes didn't play because either the mushrooms or the music blocks were too far off-screen to spawn" Actually, items on track are always loaded, it just didn't play some because the mushrooms weren't loaded and therefore didn't bounce.
Before watching the video... couldn't it be done using tracks? Put some sort of time limit on it so that the player will die if he doesn't progress in time. Not saying it's easy, but you could create a basic tune that way for a vertical level.
To Make A Vertical Music Level, Ir Needs A Vertical Sub Área And Put A Pipe Downards And Put Music Blocks And Put Any Enemy And Put A Cloud Block To Enemies Stand When The Sound Is Ready!

Sometimes people make music + speedrun levels.
Vertical speedrun levels are not that possible. You need smb2 mushrooms and even goombas.
Yes 👍
Danny b do you made this
It means there was far more effort, in fact I found a simple traditional level that had beach bowl galaxy music and the first part is vertical
Good to know..even if I don't make music levels
I just want to make mm2wood
I made one but it is not very good

Pretty much sums up this video

Everyone: Vertical music levels are impossible....
Danny: Hold my note block.
I wish I knew how to make a good music level
they are cuz u can make them like normal level or like FALLING IN THE NIGHT LIGHTS
I tried making one half an year ago. But it was too hard and i never finished it
You could probably make the SM64 Endless Stairs theme with the constant rising pitch.
It never feels like it gets notes down but just everyone becomes higher.
It's called a shepherd's tone =>
@@gabriellaedwards9yearoldwi255 THATS the name. I swear I knew it, just couldn't put my finger on the name
Thats the sheperds tone, as someone has already said. You can't recreate it with Mario Maker, even with a lot of notes.

I watched this video and a couple of hours later... well, this is a vertical music level: 1SQ-VSY-37G
very nice! I honestly didn't know any existed and this was done nicely

Im actually trying to make one with the Annoying Dog song from Undertale, is a pretty easy song, but horizontal just makes it to hard

Yes that is the name of it, all you had to do was remove "annoying" and you had the song

Lol
You'd guess but actually no
*visible confusion*
And it's actually surprisingly simple

The basic song people learn to make is the song we played in the recorder in the 2019 Spring Sing.
