It’s not as difficult but that’s actually a good thing. Dimensions mimics the American school system and primary 2022 follows Singapores school system. They way they teach math just makes more sense and it doesn’t create as much struggle for the student. It also doesn’t beat them over the head with a concept. I have always thought so many people I’ve met don’t like math because they struggled through it in school. Math can be a fun subject too!
We finished Dimensions 2b and decided switching over to PM 2022.
Definitely noticed it’s not as challenging as Dimensions. We’re quarter way into 3a and I’m highly considering going back to Dimensions.
Thank you for your honest reviews. Not many videos on YT regarding PM 2022.
Thank you so much for comment! This is so helpful to know others are noticing the difference too.
Why Dimensions instead of the original Primary?
I love both original and Dimensions! For 3rd grade I went Dimensions route mostly because I got a great deal on a set.😊 I would have been happy with going to back to either as I've used both in the past.
Thank you for sharing! I had been looking at this program earlier this fall but ultimately stuck with dimensions- it's great to hear the experience, honestly stated, from someone who has used it a while now! I agree that dimensions can have a lot of questions and I have had to learn to be okay with skipping questions if they aren't needed. It is easier now, and I appreciate having the question bank there if we need to dig further into a topic, but it was definitely something I struggled with!
Your welcome, glad to know it was helpful!
Looking into getting Primary 2022 and it seems better than the Standard version. Its not as vigorous and has less problems per lesson. I alsonlike that the textbook and workbook is in one so we dont need 2 different books. The textbook itself in Standard version is much more expensive than the student book of 2022 version and then you also gotta buy the workbook as well. With an only child, we aren't gonna be reusing the book so it's nice that the upfront cost is cheaper with it being just one book.
We are several weeks into 2A 2022 after doing primary 1A and 1b. I wish it were a slightly smoother transition. It was difficult to decide what books to order because the scope and sequence is so different. We really like it though and my son is less overwhelmed having the textbook and workbook combined. Even if the number of problems are the same, he feels like there is less work. I kinda miss primary though for some reason.
It is quiet different I agree, we came from Primary 1B also. It makes it hard to compare against each other when the scope & sequence is so different.
Hope all is going well for you, thanks for watching and commenting!
We are almost finished with Primary US Edition 2A. We did 1A&1B as a review so we only did the workbook. This time I got the teacher manuals and textbooks. I would completely rather have the textbook and workbook combined and I'm finding that there are way too many problems at times. After this review, I'm definitely looking forward to switching to Primary 2022 for 3A&3B next year.
The amount of problems is pretty perfect for us also, it's my favorite thing about this program!
So far this program has been wonderful for my struggling math student. She really had a problem with number sense and I've really enjoyed this. If you do purchase this, you do have access to digital content and can easily print out the sheets for your student. I don't have an eco printer, so I just use the workbook. I was wondering if you have been using the Extensions on the digital content? It definitely is more challenging on the same topic as the main lesson. This is the fourth math program I've tried and this has been exactly what we have needed. I haven't used the original primary math, but my daughter is once again enjoying her math lessons, so I'll take that for the win.
Glad to hear this is working for you! This approach is fantastic and Singapore math is something we love in our homeschool, I just favor the original a little over this newer version. We have been using the digital content as well thank you for mentioning that, I failed to mention that option as a Pro in this video.
Thank you for commenting and watching❤
I enjoy seeing different programs. My daughter definitely thrives on a mastery approach. We tried Saxon, Rightstart, Critical Thinking Co, Shiller, Mathseeds....and honestly probably a few I'm forgetting. Wish I used Singapore from the beginning.
It is great! And I agree I love watching math curriculum videos
@@jengillespie5114 thank you for your perspective also. I am considering switching to Singapore with my daughter (10) who has Autism, dyslexia, and some dyscalculia and I am back and forth so much on which version of SM to try. We have tried many of the ones you mentioned along with MUS and none of the them clicked with her.
This is a helpful review. I will be sticking with Singapore primary.
Glad you found it helpful!
Very very helpful. I think I'll get the old tried n true Primary books.
The original is fantastic! ❤
Hi I was curious about your comments that the difficulty level isn’t as much as the previous one. Does it seem that the curriculum is asking questions that require less critical thinking or is it just presented in a (potentially better more concise) way that makes the students comprehend the knowledge more quickly? So is it potentially making it easier for students to learn the more difficult content? Also is it possible that they’ve moved the more challenging aspects over to the supplemental texts rather than have it in the core materials? If you were starting your kindergartner all over again with Singapore, where might you start? Thank you for sharing. This is very helpful.
To be honest I have had issues pin pointing exactly why I feel this way. I think its possible all the reasons you mention play a part. I do believe some of the more difficult problem are included in the extra resources books and digital content.
Alot of the lessons I didnt need to really teach her either, we would discuss the first problem and she would just know how to do it. So I do believe some of the lack of difficultly could be that she has surpassed this level and may need to advance to a different level quicker. It is possible we will skip some of the lessons to ensure we cover what is needed but go much quicker when its clicking and will slow down later when she needs the lessons actually taught.
I hope this was helpful and I wish I could pinpoint the specific for this, but I think it maybe multifaceted.
@@knowledgebynature8480 I've been wondering about this too and I wonder if the baseline (just student book) is easier than the other versions giving more opportunity for greater differentiation and if you want more of a challenge you are supposed to use the extensions on the hub. The extensions seem to me to be the booster part to challenge.
You may be right! It would be a great program for anyone just starting the Singapore method that's coming from a different style of math learning.
How often did you use the Teacher's Resources? I bought a used Home Instructor's Guide from ebay and didn't use have the access code. I'm bummed as I didn't even realize there would be an access code! Just curious how often you used those materials. Thanks!
Hardley ever actually. Honestly I'm terrible about using "extras" that aren't in my main book. We did watch a video but neither of us of was crazy about it so we haven't used any more of them.
Thank you so much for your videos. Does this only go up to 5b? Do you know if they are going to have level 6? Considering using either PM US Edition or Dimensions for fifth grader next year. I am wanting something that we could stick with longterm. There isn't much on Dimensions after grade 5 here on YT. What are your thoughts?
Hello! It's my understanding that the Primaries go to 5th grade and stop. Dimensions go up to 8th I believe. It seems once it gets into the higher grades 7 and up a lot of families move to digital math formats (teaching text books, CTC math for example) I still have a ways before I get there so unfortunately I don't have much knowledge on those programs yet. If you dont want to have to switch again next year maybe Dimensions since it goes further?
Good luck I hope you find something that works.

Do you feel like the teacher’s guide is necessary for parents who are comfortable with math? I’ve never used Singapore myself or for my kids, but I’m very interested in switching. Math wasn’t a struggle for me until calculus so I feel comfortable teaching elementary math and as we lean heavily towards Charlotte Mason in our homeschool, I have little desire to do extras unless my child needed them. What are your thoughts on whether to buy teacher’s materials- for the original or for the 2022 version???
If you have never taught Singapore method before I would highly recommend getting the teacher's manual because it is very much based on how the student is able to do mental math.
Because it's broken out into two semesters you could try one semester with the book to decide if you thought it was necessary. personally the Singapore method isn't something that I was taught so teaching that specific method was not something I felt comfortable teaching without the manual.
@@knowledgebynature8480 Thank you! That’s helpful to know!
My pleasure :)
We just wrapped up Chapter 1 Practice section. The word problems were just killer for us. My daughter can do the math but applying that knowledge to a word problem format is a real struggle. For me too!
I agree, I like the amount of work for each lesson, it's not overwhelming to do in one sitting. I really like the learn together section because it just takes the pressure off of jumping in and doing it independently.
The stem activities are a little boring, agree with you on that one! We did the pixel art but my daughter was not having any fun.
Thank you for adding your thoughts! It is very helpful for all those watching and reading the comments.
I agree the set up is very nice, it really does have a lot of lovely aspects.
I think they combined the "challenging word problems " section of the original primary into the main lessons for this curriculum what do you think?
@@knowledgebynature8480 This is our first time using primary math so I can't compare it to the original (older version). But I can attest, the last question on Chapter 1 Practice was challenging! I looked at the teachers manual and saw there are different levels of difficulties to the Chapter Practice problems (level 1- level 3).
I know the word problems are a big part of this curriculum but my daughter is really hating them. 🙋Struggle city over here!
ROFL! Okay I just went and pulled my book to see exactly what you were referring to! YES that one was worded SO weird, I had my very "mathy" husband come in and he agreed they worded that one really weird, so then I felt better about it. I honestly think that one might have been a typo by having listed both value and digit in the problem.
@@knowledgebynature8480 This is too funny, I had my husband come in to help as well! He ended up explaining it in a way that my daughter to was able to understand. Someone recommended getting out place value cards to show the actual "value" of the "digit" in a certain place value 🥴 My brain was about to explode.
That one was a strange one for sure! 😂
Did you end up keeping the Home Instructor's Guides once your daughter completed the year?
No I got rid of everything, with the exception of some samples for her portfolio.
Am I mistaken or is this version of Primary Mathematics not actually from Singapore Math? It says Marshall Cavendish, MC, at the top of the book, not SM, Singapore Math, like the original and like Dimensions.
You are correct in that it isnt published by "Singapore Math". Marshalll Cavendish is part of what was the "original" primary math. There are so many versions it's so confusing. But from what I have found it is created in part with Singapore math Instructors, printed in Singapore, and a branch of the Singapore Math, which created some of the original versions and math in focus. This is not from Singapore Math publishers that released Dimensions Math however. (Hope this helps, from my research this is what I've been able to come up with)
@@knowledgebynature8480 Thanks, that's a big help!
Did you find yourself using the Mastery and Beyond book much?
No, in fact the only time we used it was during holiday break for some quick math practice.
Thanks for watching 😊
