Hello friends! Here is the next installment of my decluttering series - the kitchen! In our 4 years of living in this house I have NEVER decluttered my kitchen with the exception of a few dishes here and there, and it was high time I went through all of the food, dishes, and random storage items to give it a good makeover. As ever, I hope these are helpful videos and I can't wait to be back post-baby to do more!

Quick tip for old sticking drawers! Get a block of paraffin wax and rub it along the bottom edges that rub and then it will slide nearly perfectly! My dad taught me that one!

Being over 60, married 36, and adopting 4 children, I have seen how it takes time to settle into what things we like and what works for us as individuals. I do think coffee cups multiply while we sleep. Prayers for a safe delivery and soon. So, looking forward to meeting your sweet gilt from God.

Floors have always been my worst thing! Even when I did clean them, the kids and dogs and man walked on them with impunity. When I didn't clean them, the family appreciated them just as much, which is to say not much at all. And one thing you can count on, for sure, is that the dirty floor will still be there for you when you get to it! =) Great work in this video!
It is so refreshing to see someone who is 'real' with a normal size kitchen and who doesn't start off by telling me to run out and buy storage baskets.
I17.05 also have that set of Farmhouse pattern crockery and have never seen anyone else with it. They are my favourite everyday dishes - I've been using my set for more than 20 years.
Kristina: you showed your vintage electric knife on this episode and said you have not used it yet. Electric knives are the absolute best knife for cutting homemade bread and good for cutting turkey and ham at the holidays.
This type of electric knife is also outstanding for cutting things like upholstery foam and Styrofoam for crafting and other DIY projects.
I have a a Sunbeam electric knife from 1987 that was a wedding gift. I use it for carving the turkey or ham at all the major holidays. I would bet your 1950s to 60s vintage knife is even more fabulous than mine!

My #5 will be 1 this week so our youngest babes are close in age! We share the same name (and spelling! I've never known another Kristina), my older children were watching you clean and said "mama, that looks like YOU!" I dream of living in simplicity and all things vintage. Your channel feels like I'm watching a sort of "what could have been" or alternate reality! It's wild! I have 6 kids now as we gained my nephew last year and are raising him, too, and I homeschool but I'm just amazed at how much you are like me...just living my dream.

Thank you for mentioning the food bank item about donating expired food. Those experiencing hardships are already going through a lot, and I personally feel the last thing that they need to deal with is having to eat weird/expired food that was donated. It's the same with donating clothes. If it has holes, stains etc then I don't donate because that's not how I would want to buy clothes for myself or family.
Where I live, subpar items aren't even offered to the public. It goes right to the landfill anyway. Therefore, when people give their garbage to charity, it just costs the charity money to have it hauled away. Not nice.

I am so proud of you!!! You did an amazing job! You've inspired me to do my kitchen as well. Living with 2 men (hubby and 23 year old son) plus 3 dogs, can be like living with children lol. Nothing gets put away where it belongs, crumbs everywhere etc. And as much as my son does help, it's not the same as "mom clean". So this weekend my kitchen is getting cleaned out! And thank you for not apologizing for the realistic state of things. It makes me feel like I'm not alone!!! Sending you love and I can't wait to hear about baby!!
My kitchen all the time. Without Kids,pregnancy or (diagnosed) adhd. But with a full time job, working in shifts and a passion for home cooked meals. 😂That life, love and coloured.
I'm moving next week and I've been procrastinating on cleaning out my kitchen, so this gave me some much-needed inspiration. My grandma has a full strawberry-themed kitchen, and it's so lovely to see all your strawberry stuff!
I share you experience and feelings about food bank stuff. They helped a lot when needed, but knowing what people really think of those in need can be seen in their food bank donations. It can be very demoralising. Now that I’m in a better place, I donate higher end stuff… cuz poor folks need the esteem boost.

Our oldest son gave us an electric knife about 20-25 years ago.....it sat in a drawer until my husband decided to try it when he fileted the fish he caught....it is perfect for that!!! He has tons of knives, but he always wants the electric one for the fish....and he is 75....been fishing since he was a teenager. It works great for ham and turkey too.....but it will always be the fish knife in our house! LOL!!!

I have ADHD too. I had to learn about household management as an adult even though I had learned to cook and do laundry in childhood / teens years. It took a while to learn about how to do all of the things that make a household run.
One thing that helped me was to store the pieces with the things that used them. So, the beaters with the mixer, and the lids with the plastic wear (underneath containers if they are holding things in a drawer like the cookie cutters in your kitchen drawer), and lids on top of those travel coffee mugs, that sort of thing makes it easier to find the one part when you’re using the other part for whatever reason. It’s a step up in the idea of like with like sorting that folks sometimes recommend.
The other thing that really helps me is to do it now, whether taking whatever is in a weird spot to its home, or just putting things away when done with the project for the day.
I too freaked out about lead. I tested all my vintage stuff. Only 2 things came back positive. Paint on a corningware cutting board (which I never even used because it would damage my knives) and the paint on libbey cups. I still use those cups since I only use glass cups once or twice a month. I think I will be fine. Its good to be aware of the possibility but no need to freak out. I was so worried I was gonna have to get rid of all my vintage stuff.
Another thing to note is that after 1971 the fda became much more strict on lead in dishes. A lot of vintage stuff is from after that. That green pyrex is one of them. That pattern didnt even come out until after 1971.
I agree with you. While its not solid evidence, the fact that our grandparents didn't get lead poisoning seems like a good sign that the dishes they used were fairly safe to use.

We did this in our kitchen over new years it was a last minute decision I wish I had done a video for my channel. Sometimes you just get the bug and want to sort out the space! Yeah good info :) I did get rid of my old Corelle dishes but to be fair they were so beat up, the paint was probably exposed.

Having had 8 people living in a 3 bedroom rambled before (3 generations), I get the chaos. The STUFF gets overwhelming so easily! Babies, kids, pets, it's over stimulating and you can't run after each kid with a broom or vacuum. In fact you can't even sweep or vacuum uninterrupted with kids. If you can it's usually because they are into something they shouldn't ;) . Joking aside, I hope you do have a safe delivery and that it will be sooner than later. Good job decluttering, and thank you for not donating expired food! I know someone who got sick on expired canned soup from the food pantry. I agree, it is a very demeaning experience. The plate you called a “cottage core plate” are the dishes I had growing up! My mom decorated our whole kitchen around those dishes. She even stenciled a little village of those houses above our stove and gave them store names for everyone in the family like “Joshua’s Hardware Store.” Funny how memory works. If you had asked me what dishes we had growing up a few minutes ago, I would’ve had trouble remembering. But, getting a glance of that plate made the memories roll in.
I know there's an official name for them and I cannot for the life of me remember it LOL. A few of my friends had these plates growing up! We also have a matching teapot we keep on our woodburning stove full of water to help humidify the air.
The electric knife excels at cutting fresh unsliced bread as you need no pressure so don’t squash your bread. Great for roast meat and meatloaves. I have had mine for 35 years and love it.

My parents always had an electric knife! Made its appearance at thanksgiving and Christmas lol I truly thought it was the only carving option as a child!!
My mom has the turquoise set that matches your yellow set. My grandma had the mixer with the white bowl. I knew right away what that bowl was from when I saw it earlier in your video.

You did a great job! And of course, having 3 sets of spritz cookie presses makes sense to me. My mom had them. For three daughters sharing one set. She was married in ‘57 and they were more costly then. Mirro! I have given a set to all my nieces. We all grew up on the famous “holiday many way” recipe from Meta Givens Cookbook, for cut outs, for spritz, and more. Memories!! Your cookie making goes fast with more hands on presses.

lol no, I'm far past the nesting phase, this is just a continuation of decluttering that I have been working up to for over 2 years now
Love seeing all the 50s things - so many my mother had but they moved & sold most at garage sales so I have some 70s bowls of theirs. Didn’t know about lead in Pyrex. Love them & store things in the fridge in them as well as cooking. Luckily I don’t have a dishwasher. I think Pyrex is safe to use & practical.
From what I read, it's the paint used on the exterior that may contain lead, but I'm not storing or eating food on the outside of the dish, only the inside. Even you lick the paint, it isn't likely that you'll get lead on your tongue unless you use your teeth and scrape the paint off. Heck, I know college professors who made lead figures for war gamers professionally and none of them got lead poisoning. It's more difficult than you think.

Girl like 26 minutes in you showed a casserole dish, yes! Keep it! It’s a princess house dish. I have one and I bake my chicken in it and it cooks perfectly. Makes life easier specially with the kids. I got it years ago when I was hosting a princess party or else I may have not been able to afford it. They can be pricey.

Oh my goodness I want that Pyrex SO BADLY!! I HAD some older pieces that were new in the early 70's when I was filling my hope chest but pieces have gotten broken in the last 50 years. But I love the old pyrex mixing/serving bowls!! The thrift stores in my area think they're made of gold so buying them is not an option🫤

That electric carving knife is the best! I have my grandma’s that she used every holiday and it still works like a charm and makes cutting Turkey and ham so easy. It is a power horse I hope it never dies.

Too late now but nxt time you empty the cabinets think about painting the inside white. It will brighten your kitchen up. I have dark cabinets, i hust used white contact paper but plan to paint them eventually. Also i want to add that i love your perfectly imperfect kitchen. Mine is the same. I feel extremely inadequate when im watching a cleaning video of someone with a perfect kitchen, perfect bathroom, perfect anything. Its unrealistic for me. I don't live that kind of life, i don't have that kind of home. We use an electric carving knife for thanksgiving from the 60s every year!!! still works. I'm 33 and we have used that thing my entire life.
Love this! I have such a hard time getting rid of things, but dishes are a weakness of mine. (Especially vintage)
I just got to the molds and cake pans but you would always hang some of those copper pans on the wall for decor as well as usability.

As for the stove vent… the vent does really vent to anywhere except over your head. The vent needs to go to an outside wall.
You could probably find one of those old fashioned wall vents that you would pull the chain to make it work. A red one might be nice. 😁 but at least an over stove light is a must for every kitchen.
Look’n great! When you get the time, paint the inside of the cabinets a light color. (Like I said, when you get the time. Lol) It’ll help you see things better.

I love these videos and watching your process. You make organizing feel fun and creative. 😊❤ I've been using washed rectangular mixed green salad containers and gallon ice cream buckets to organize my pantry-- types of spices, extracts, leveners, oils etc. It's been so useful and it works great. If they leak, it doesn't get into the cabinet. I can take it all out at once, depending on the type of cooking. I know they make nicer looking containers you can buy...but it's better than those plastic containers ending up in a landfill. And it doesn't cost anything. 😉

I like your three cookie presses. I had little helpers in The kitchen. At one time i counted five apple peeler/corers/slicers, three potato mashers, and two or three of those vintage vookie presses. We had alot of fun with all that type stuff.
