I am buying an old house, and a lathe that looks like yours comes with the house. Your video helped me identify the lathe, and has inspired me to clean it up and learn how to use it.
Very good video. I was given this same model number lathe and have no idea how or what it does. This is by far the most informative video I've run across. Thanks for making it for newbies like me. Mine is also very dirty and "used" but all the gears seem good to great and I think I'll have a fine tool once it's tweaked.
Tom, you made a good find. I just bought one like it (07403) last week. I must have been crazy, I gave $650 for this one and it is not as clean as yours but everything works and I got several tools, two chucks and other junk. I also have a Craftsman 109.20630 which is an older 6" lathe. I have got to tear down both of these and clean them up and oil everything before I can adjust everything and so they can be used. I enjoyed your video and a good review of the lathe. I've ordered some manuals for my 12" but haven't found any for the 6" yet. Good luck with yours Tom.
Nice score on the lathe. It's been a while since I've operated one.... We had Clausing lathes in our metal shop in high school. Maybe late 70's models with the rotary speed control on the back. No changing belts and gears. Interesting to see just how they operate.....
I Have the same lathe works decent bought new cross slide nut on Ebay the old one was junk . also bought a quick change tool post and a quick change gear box (have not mounted it yet ) the thing I like about the old lathes is that they have back gear newer lathes do not had this lathe for 25yrs also Tall grass tools makes true read dials for it because the dials are .100 per rev which means if you dial it to .005 you will take .010 off the OD
Sweet score on the Lathe! I will be adding one soon as well. The nice thing about that one is Tubalcain has all those videos on the details of it, but with your background I know you probably know it inside and out!
Ive got the same exact lathe. had it since i was 16.. my Grandfather baught it in 1942.. ive since baught a bigger more capable one but I still use it Daily!
Hi, I see this is an old thread but if you are still around I could sure use some help. I just bought this same 12 lathe and it came from an old engineer. So I also got all his attachments for it. Thing is, I don’t know what alit of them are for.
I know this is an old video but are you still around? I just got 2 lathes and 2 work stands with drawers full of bits and attachments for $500. One of the lathes is this exact one you have. Same serial number. How do I find out what year it is though? Thanks for any info. Great informative video by the way!
Got a 12 x 36 similar to yours from a Craigslist ad. Mine is full of blow dirt and unheated-machine-shed rust but has a rotten little 1/6hp motor w/a single sheave pulley. Can you or any of your viewers tell me the appropriate sheave diameters for a 1740 rpm motor? Thank you.
Hello Tom, I enjoyed your show. I got the same model one, but the belts are gone, could you let me know what are the dimensions of the 2 belts? Appreciated your share. Thank you. Shaw
Hi Tom, I have one just like it that I just picked up. Model #101.07403. I was wondering if you could show how the motor is attached and what size belts are needed. Mine had a makeshift motor mount and the belt tension lever does not work like yours.

just picked up its twin gear shift lever broken front drive gear no teeth & extra gears missing saw tubalcain printing gears half to find out if they survive some use. anybody know if gear sets are still made ?
tomswonderfulworld I just recently acquired this very same model lathe while doing some trading. I really don't have the time to set it all up and probably wouldn't use it enough to justify the space it takes up. If you happen to know of anyone that might be interested in buying it from me please let me know. Mine has the leg stand and quite a few extra gears and cutters for it. I'm located south of Ft Worth,Texas
hay there I have this exact lathe do you think you can show how the upper left belt guard mounts mine does not seem to line up corectly. having a heck of a time figuring it out. check out my chanel I've got a few things you might find interesting.

Velvethamma We had several clausings as well in the shop............Sweet machines!
Nice video. Sears sold these up to 1957. The 1958 catalog shows the new improved version and it's completely different.

You may need to change the belts to get the remaining rattles out of it. Get the adjustable belts to avoid pulling the head apart
