  • A couple of months ago I bought myself some litho stones. I decided that even though I don't have access to a proper printmaking studio, I still miss stone lithography. Therefore, this series of videos will address the steps and challenges of doing stone lithography at home without a press.
I was able to buy three used limestones from the Museum of Printing in Massachusetts. One is around 9" x 11" and two around 10" x 12. The great thing about stones is you can reuse them over and over. However, to do that, you must grain the stone, essentially sanding off the surface layer and creating a new surface for the next image. Seeing as it is not warm outside, I decided to turn my basement sink into a graining sink. This is the first step featured in today's video. Enjoy!
There are still many tools I would like to add to my studio for stone lithography over the next year. If you are able to assist me, please consider purchasing one of my original fine art prints.
