My mom taught me to put to score the plantain and then put it cold water for 10 minutes. She said it makes it easier to peel. I love your channel. You have a very similar cooking style like my mom. Oh yes and she soaked the rice in water too. 👍🏼

Gandules have a unique taste, and it's pretty easy to find canned versions. But if you don't, you can try with black eyed peas or the harder varieties of lentils (the ones that don't turn easily into mush)

Is there a reason that you use the packets of chicken stock rather than just buying the container of chicken stock? Or is it just preference? Thanks! :)
I made the sopa last night. 2 thumbs up. But when I cooked the long grain rice they looked like gusanitos. I am going to use short grain rice and see if it is more pleasing to the eye. Some guests are picky and may not like the look of the rice. I'm going to try the tembleque next. I love your PR cooking. I'm PRican by the way. Love ya gal!!!

good cath. i would add the remaining garlic when staying the sofrito. You can never (well, almost) have too much garlic. ;)

You can skip it and add smoked paprika for that smokey hammy flavor. Thats what i do since my husband doesnt eat meat
I use smoked turkey ham (turkey ham steak). It is very tasty as a replacement for ham in such recipes. Hope it helps ;)
