You are seriously the reason I learned to make sancocho, arroz con gandules. I was living alone with my son and didn’t really have anyone to call to help me to learn. So I’m soooo happy I found you. Mind you this was in like 2014 so thank you!!! I really really love this video, God bless 🤞🏽
you all probably dont care but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Randall William i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
"It's Puerto Rican cause I'm Puerto Rican and I'm making it" Love it!! This looks soooooo good and easy. Time consuming but easy. THANK YOU!!! For sharing with us your wonderful recipes!!! Can't wait to try this.
I just wanted to say thank you for all you do I'm purteo rican 22 and I'm very proud of my people and are food lol. Watching your videos brings me home and I really appreciate this. Sorry for this rant but your cooking reminds me of my Abuelita
I am so happy that I found your videos. I recently moved to here to Añasco, Puerto Rico and I don't speak the language, but my husband is Puerto Rican. He loves his Spanish dishes, but I am still lost with making a food that he loves. Your videos being in English is going to help me out with this problem. I can't wait to do these recipes. Gracias
I’ve made this recipe countless times thanks to you. I used this recipe for my first sancocho and never looked back! I tweaked it a little to my liking but it’s just as good as it is too. Thanks for sharing!
For the 7 people that gave this thumbs down you cannot cook at all and you should let someone else that is willing to put in the time and effort to cook this. You have to be patient. This is not canned soup..
"...Not traditional to Puerto Rico only. A lot of Caribbean countries makes it also. It's Puerto Rican because I'm Puerto Rican and I'm making it." -- SO THERE!! Very well said. You served that line up BIG time, Ida, to the point that I'm LOVING it!!
Buen provecho..... and thank you I had to try it after looking your whole video..... it came out amazing 😉... I ready to throw it down now my mom coming from PR to visit me and I’m doing all the food for noche buena...gracias y Dios la bendiga 🙏
Good afternoon Ms. Ida. I tried this soup and followed your instruction to detail and my soup came out wonderful.. I also had made up a batch of your sofrito and the soup came out remarkable. I did not use to many provisions but what I used was good enough for two people and like you said it is a lot of soup but then again I eat soups on hot summer days because being from the Caribbean that is how we roll. Folks follow the direction to detail and you will have great soup. The more beef bones the better the flavor. Thanks again Ida. My next quest will be the perfect Cuban Sandwich
Glad to see another great video. This reminds me of how we make soup here in Trinidad and Tobago. We also like to add pigeon peas/split peas, salted meat (pigtail and/or beef), cow heels, chicken feet and dumplings
You are certainly right about a pot of sancocho feeding an army, lol. My godson's grandma used to whip up a pot and it seemed to never run out! DEE-licious.
love love love your channel. you give me so many ideas and alot of tips on making my dishes my own. my son whos 4 always asks where our food when your videos end lol. thank you for sharing and explaining it so well for us! god bless
I live in NJ and we're getting a snowstorm this weekend. I plan on staying in and making a big pot of this. I've had it before, but never made it myself. It'll be my first time. Deseame suerte!! :)
exactly no tomato sauce, I just make a dominican sancocho in my channel , love the way you make it , creamy not liquid like water, very nice , blessings
Its funny to know this amazing dish was once considered "poor man stew"...now you see it at high end restaurants in NYC. My mom use to make this whenever we got sick. Next day we were cured.
This looks great but I do have one question. How to choose a good yuca root. Everytime I purchase one it seems old or something. It never looks as white as yours does in the video. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you. I am a big fan of Sancocho. Yours looks great! I am just wondering how I ll be struggling pealing el platano y la yuca caise it s really hard. Where can I get what you call sofrito in Europe and what is this sauce made of? I guess it s Puerto rican? Bendiciones.
Right, Lovely Smile, it becomes shredded-chicken meat when cooking for too long, it's best to take out before it over cooks, then back into pot for the last 15-20 minutes to avoid over-cooking. Thank you for sharing this recipe, looks delicious, my next-to-do.
You right about adding tomato sauce. I have seen other versions and they say that the sancocho is a stew, which isn't, is a soup. Your sancocho looks delicious, but I didn't like that the chicken got disintegrated. And I usually add the yam at the very end because it tends to melt down. That's how we do it in Panama.

Looks yummy. Gonna veganize this one!
This looks great but I do have one question. How to choose a good yuca root. Everytime I purchase one it seems old or something. It never looks as white as yours does in the video. What am I doing wrong?
"There's no such thing as sancocho for two people." LOL!
+Bethzaida Garcia Haha true!
Hi, have you done this recipe before in a crock pot? If so, would love to see a video on it
I haven't
Omg solo falto un pedazo de aguacate.

Will he color and consistency of the sancocho be the same if I don't use the ribs?
Boniato is Sweet Potato
Thank you. I am a big fan of Sancocho. Yours looks great! I am just wondering how I ll be struggling pealing el platano y la yuca caise it s really hard. Where can I get what you call sofrito in Europe and what is this sauce made of? I guess it s Puerto rican? Bendiciones.
OMG MY MOUTH IS WATER YUM YUM
Looks good! I would have added the chicken back at the end though bc it boiled out in the soup.
Right, Lovely Smile, it becomes shredded-chicken meat when cooking for too long, it's best to take out before it over cooks, then back into pot for the last 15-20 minutes to avoid over-cooking. Thank you for sharing this recipe, looks delicious, my next-to-do.
Thank u awesome video
What happened to the Sofrito recipe?
I have 2 videos.
No seasoning?
I could eat the whole bowl 😂😂
Ida, can I substitute pork for the beef?
Yes
Can you please make a video for Puerto Rican style pork chops :)
Arielle Wampler Which kind? A la jardinera?
Do you necessarily need them to have the bone in? Its very inconvenient to eat.
You can use what you like
You right about adding tomato sauce. I have seen other versions and they say that the sancocho is a stew, which isn't, is a soup. Your sancocho looks delicious, but I didn't like that the chicken got disintegrated. And I usually add the yam at the very end because it tends to melt down. That's how we do it in Panama.
