    9:35 I disagree. These episodes are just as entertaining as some of the racing videos because they are so raw. This is what it takes to compete in the sport and it is cool to watch everything unfold. I think I speak for most of your audience when I say that we enjoy the little details. Complete bummer that you can't be out burning rubber tomorrow but it is all a part of the experience. #SponsoredBy2%Milk

    What is needed to utilize the three disc? A different torque tube with longer splines? If so, might as well upgrade tube and stick with the three disc so all the effort doesn't go to waste.

    Keep your head up brother, my dad is one of the best mechanics I know and the best piece of advice he told me is "the difference between a pro and an apprentice is the pro knows how to fix his mistakes". If you ain't breaking you ain't learning. Racing is fun but it's fixing your car that really makes it worth it when you can say you did that with pride.

  • @AMac1978
    @AMac1978 6 років тому +5

    Make sure to measure the center of the crank to the center of the input shaft when you put an aftermarket bellhousing on. You may need offset bellhousing dowels. Also you should get a torque tube with longer spline so you can keep that triple disk.

  • @charlesfields7908
    @charlesfields7908 6 років тому +9

    I'd still go with a triple disc just get another torque tube. Yea it cost alot of money but better to get it right and have the power to the wheels and know it'll work each and every pass you make from there on till you burn up the clutches again.

    He’s had it apart so many times, he might want to inspect all the chassis and suspension fasteners really close when reassembling, and actually use a torque wrench to secure them...
    it’s no fun having to remove a captured nut that’s stripped out in some subframe hole.
    I remember a lot of worn fasteners back in tech school from repeated teardowns and reassembles.

    Stay with the triple disk, lengthen the splines- get a new shaft made. Cause ur motor is going to chew up those twin disks. My opinion. Threw my experience hard to keep a smile, u keep urs. 🤘🏽& u Always have to modify the modify to make it work!!! Lesson I was taught by an old gear head. Once u modify a OEM component u have to modify Everything behind it. Keep up the good work. Build it too break it!!!!!!

    My first truck as an 81 Chevy stepside, straight 6 with 3 on the tree... got an interceptor 350 from a wrecked cop car for 300 bucks, put the shifter on the floor, 4.11 posi, and it moved fairly well for a daily, and never ran from cops street racing, that would just be too ironic... But I did have to change the clutch every 3 months or so, too much dumping it in 2nd and pulling one wheel up lol, but got lotsnkf experience, and that's all that matters... As much as I cussed all my race trucks, still miss them... Now I have an old 07 classic Lr4, it's getting cammed then single turbo, and man you are inspiring some of us older rodders to get back into it, so keep it up and do it for dale

    Sorry to hear it dude. I had an off brand stage 3 clutch on an old turboed 240SX I drove years ago. It was still a sprung disc. One day the pedal effort skyrocketed and I had a hard time getting it in and out of gear but it was semi driveable (with patience). Turns out a spring came out of the clutch disc hub and wedged itself sideways, so basically every time I was pushing in the clutch I was fighting against a spring! It was a pretty new clutch (just a few months)! I went to a SPEC stage 4 or 5 with an unsprung hub so I could never have that problem again. Engagement was a lot like a light switch but you can get used to it. That was a daily driver too!

      Well we are on the same boat. Been working as mechanic since 2010. I have seen and done many thing. But what grinded my gears was a intake flange bolt that broke on a MAN engine in a 89 footer yatch.. i hated my self for a couple of days

    • @MOTO809
      @MOTO809 6 років тому +1

      jose m ouch! Bet you don’t pull that one again. Put a wrong starter in a Cummins 4.5 once. I maintain a fleet and we have several pieces of equipment with Cummins engines. The adapter plates for all of them will bolt up a variety of starters, but when you put one in for a 4bt 3.9, it tends to explode into pieces of aluminum and steel that rattle around in the bell housing for the next year.

  • @nickr1616
    @nickr1616 6 років тому

    Just gotta remember. Nothing is hard, some things just take longer to fix. It's good to see you staying positive. Most people I've been around in shops start throwing tools and quit WAY before the bell housing is broke. Multiple times.

    I had something similar happen with a Mcleod twin disc clutch in my C6Z. One of the clutch discs was spinning on the torque tube input shaft and destroyed the splines on the input shaft. The discs seemed to be fully engaged on the splines, but I think the separator plate was warped due to heat and it caused one of the discs to never fully disengage.

    Hey Cleetus, I'm glad that you are going to upgrade that weak bell-housing. I actually cringed when I saw what you were using and how you had to cut into it further weakening it in the previous video. Things always happen for a reason, and I'm glad that this issue will lead to you getting the proper parts for Leroy, especially replacing that old bell-housing.

    I disagree when you say that these last videos weren't the best to watch. I like that worked on the car yourself. I don't know how many things I have broken myself. Like you said, you just have to learn and move on. It takes courage to post videos like these and I appreciate them.

    Good stuff! It's nice to see both the good and the bad of the whole process. One of the best ways to get good at something is to mess up a few times! I have definitely messed up a car of mine before. I personally slipped while trying to slowly crack open the valve on my cherrypicker while putting my engine in and opened it all the way.. dropping the engine into the bay and smashing some AC lines... 1 week before driving that car to Texas from Washington... in August... and I didn't have time or money to mess with fixing it, so I just ripped out the AC compressor (because it was a civic, so more HP bro..). Haha we all learn things the hard way sometimes.
    Anyhow, I love your vids Cleetus! You are definitely one of my top favorite youtubers!

    sorry but the clutch. yeah, would have been able to correctly guess that, but first clue it was wrong was grinding the bell housing. live and learn.
