- This is an incredible display of piloting skills. The gyro is an amazing flying machine. Even an average pilot in a standard machine can have a lot of fun bopping around the sky. But this guy has taken it to a whole other level. In other words, DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!
This footage was captured at Bensen Days in Wauchula, Florida in April of 2022.
The pilot is exceptional and he’s flying a purpose built gyroplane designed to be able to handle these maneuvers. This type of flight is not recommended for the typical gyro pilot.
Baddest gyrocoptor pilot I ever saw! This guy is insane!
Scott you have really nailed Barry's performance. I saw you out on the Flightline capturing this breathtaking display and you've done a great job. He does things with this machine that most gyro pilots would consider impossible, an extreme performance that demonstrates just how agile an aircraft it can be in his hands. A quiet modest unassuming guy who makes magic with both this, and his fixed wing that he flew in and out, ferrying people to the show. He is using Denis Shoemaker's Razor Blade Rotors and anytime anyone at the Gyro Technic stand asked how they performed and Barry was flying, Denis would just casually point and say 'Well Barry seems to like them.' :-)
Don’t say he is nuts because now the government will take his guns away.
This guy is good !!! I was looking into building one of these, and have purchased several 4318 McCulloch engines to get started on it... Scott appears to be using a Liquid-cooled Rotax twin, like a 582 maybe? I have always liked 2-stroke engines, especially rotary valve engines.... Simple, light , powerful and when maintained properly, very reliable...
That's a true aviator.
That is one of the most amazing demonstrations of flying skills that I have ever seen!!! Makes me wonder if a gyro like this with a skilled pilot like him could be outfitted for sneak attack combat situations.
You'll find the answer to your question in this video: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=little+Nellie+James+Bond
@@philipmartin708task and purpose has a video on youtube about China's Gyrocopter antitank fleet. $5000 to build and 10 hours training to qualify as a pilot, they have thousands of rocket armed gyrocopters that can reach Taiwan.
I've seen people do some really amazing things with gyrocopters, and I'll tell you, this guy's good! Really good!
Astonishingly competent pilot but those rotor tips near the ground on low turns give me sweaty palms.
All I can say is WOW! Thanks for the show!
It's hard enough to pull these maneuvers in a legit helicopter, let alone in a gyro copter. Impressive is an understatement!
Пилот ахрененный мастер!!!! Респект! 👍
Wow, I know nothing about flight but you can see how he's balancing the props thrust against the lift & drag of the rotor (?) thru some of those manoeuvres , others are way "over my head". Great flying, great camera work. Thanks!
I saw a gyro over Houston about a month ago. Really made my day!!!
okay, that just impressed the heck out of me....... OUTSTANDING!!!
WOW!!! That Man Has SKILLS!!!! Well Done Sir!
Great video work Scott. Barry is nuts but he is really really skilled and has an out in all the maneuvers he does. Not something most of us can do.
Это лучший полет автожира, который я когда либо видел!!!!!!!!!
What a great performance! Thx for sharing!
Awsome.
I didn't think gyrocopter could be quite so acrobatic but obviously this is no ordinary machine or pilot.
The trick is to never unload those rotors or slow them down.
So so so so fantastic! Brilliant!
You’re an amazing gyro pilot!
Reminds me of the day Ken Wallis gave my brother and me a private display over his field at Reymerston Hall. He had a whole stable of autogiros he showed us, probably about seven. We stayed for a weekend. My brother was going out with Dizzy.
Utterly amazing!
Адреналиновый наркоман !!! На сколько надо быть уверенным в технике . Молодец !👍
So good to watch a master demonstrating what they can do. superb.
Go hard dude, that was awesome!!!👏👌👍
He's fantastic but out of his mind. I hope he survives this phase.
Heehee yX-D!🏆🥇
It’s always a “phase” to those who have little or no experience with gyro’s. Skilled pilots are not in a phase, they are in their element, appreciate the skill without the unnecessary jab at him.
I'd think the 'dangerous part' is well-behind him...
The learning curve to get to this level is when crashes happen.@@Rakkasan-vr8xt
Uh, he's testing and pushing untested flight envelopes that aren't vetted by design engineers, manufactures or skilled instructional pilots. He is risking his ass for a thrill@@Rakkasan-vr8xt
Just…wow! Thanks for posting!
For anyone wondering, his altitude is limited because of earths magnetic pull on his humongous balls of steel.
Lolol👍
😹😹😹😹👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
There are many old pilots , and there are many bold pilots, but not a lot of old, bold pilots .
Well, if he hadn't been a bold pilot, he wouldn't have those skills.
He can’t be that old yet!
Extremely dangerous! I saw another video of a different performance from this pilot and will say the same thing. We can only hope not too many gyro pilots see this video and start trying these maneuvers out. All it takes is a strong gust of wind in the wrong direction to push this guy over. He's getting away with it, and as long as he stays 0 g's or higher, he's okay, but if it ever goes negative -g's, watch out! Excellent flying and really pushing the envelope of what a gyro can do.
Hint: Note the Horizontal wing on the Vertical stabilizer!!! This is no ordinary gyro! Power modded and frame strengthened beyond belief!!!
One impromptu engine failure and it's all over.
A chap at our club had one of these and could land it on a sixpence but this is something else. Hope those four by two's are strong.
Very impressive skills this man has.
Wow what a pilot
absolute flippin' madlad.
Awesome Display- I was afraid the rotors would touch ground. I’m glad it didn’t happen. Oh my 😅
This guy is literally dicing with death!! He has my full respect!
Fuarrrrrkkk.... hell scary!! Awesome pilot!!
I've never seen an airplane do anything close to that. The Gyrocopter is an incredible machine obviously. All you need is someone who knows how to fly one and a machine built for the kind of flying you intend to do. I am not a pilot but it is plain to see how versatile of a flying machine the Gyrocopter really is.
Awesome, suddenly I am interested in a Gyrocopter :D
Captain Insano. Awesome!
Spectacular.
We'll be reading an article on UA-cam about THIS Expert in the future... I can guarantee it... 'Nuff said!!!... Thanks for posting... I THINK... 'Nuff said!!!...
That performance was outstanding! What model gyrocopter is that? What engine was he using? I can figure that it’s not a stock configuration! Totally outrageous display!! Thanks
Barry does this kind of flying alot. Very Talented? I wonder who his CFI was?
WOW! Just WOW!
Best pilot ever
Flying like that will all end in tears one day
Sensacional lindo vídeo este é piloto de verdade incomparável
That's crazy. Thanks.
Reminds me of Ken Wallis and his gyrocopter flying in You Only Live Twice. High CG must help with low G pushover and loops.
the point is to have thrustline passing through cg the old ciervas had about 5 degrees angle down. these dominatortors often have zero but pull the cg up to the thrustline. however this only becomes an issue at extreme speeds. the main thing is to not fly too fast. most of this demo is fast at times but not 100mph. if you look at the old Bensens and Wallis machines they were very short and had down thrust. they did pass cg through thrustline.
now I point this out because both these type of machines have been involved in fatal n g situations I wouldn't rely on this to save you. likewise for HS plenty of those involved with fatal accidents too. The only way to ensure your safety is to fly within the limits of the aircraft. unlike fixed wings gyro limitations are somewhat binary and there is no way of finding that limit without killing yourself. for example people claiming dominatiors (or any other) are immune to ppo ng or pio etc you could run the machine along at say 100mph and punch the stick full forward violently. if it could survive that then yes I'd believe that you can make an idiot proof gyro. however as that's likely a sure way to suicide no one does this and rightly so. All I'd say is as we cannot know with certainly then we should fly with caution.
What this guy shows is in highly skilled hands what they can do. However dunning Kruger effect many will think they are this good. still he clearly is that skilled Like the person who posted this don't try this at home.
must have some heavy tip weights he's got hella lot of interior. also any idea what the motor is huge horsepower sounds two stroke.
This guy is insane!!!
great Performance-be careful.....
Amazing !!!!
What are the specs on the engine in that thing. They're obviously has been some modifications. I've been a fixed-wing pilot for years but I always wanted a gyroplane and I think this just sold me. I love the way you can make it hover and just hang it on the prop like that!
The engine is a Rotax 670.
And please don’t expect to get a gyro and fly like that. This pilot is one in a million. And he is flying a very custom gyro unlike any that you can buy.
You can have a low ground speed or even a hover depending on the wind speed, if heading into the wind… the gyro RPM has to be maintained, if it drops below a certain level the gyro will start to mush downwards, which from the safety point of view is a good thing as it keeps the rotor RPM at the level necessary to maintain lift…. Someone standing on the ground watching might think that the gyro is “hovering”…. as the rotor is unpowered of course the engine power doesn’t figure into this…
Impressive! Looks like a very smartly designed gyro with a large vertical stabilizer and the horizontal stabilizer positioned in the prop wash for stability!
Ah so that's why he get away with this
and pusher prop line through center of gravity
Ilove it man just xtra careful
WOW ! AMAZING !!😮😮😮😮😮😮
Great achievement,amazing👍
Love from India...
Amazing understanding of his airframe capabilities and amazing skills too😎😎😎😎😎😎🤠🌄
Great performance.
Beautiful 👌👌👌😕
Wow !
That pilot is brave (or crazy)!
Amazing.
What's the name of this pilot? Incredible flying skills, he looks extremely comfortable on that machine, and flies it like its an extension of his own body :)
Jaw dropping!
by looking at your feat you are the champion of the champions
dude you're off the hook
Master of his tool
Dieser Kerl weiss wie es geht...bravo !
U R GINIUS
Impressive. But how is this possible with the gyro effect working on a rotating 'disc'? The stress from this effect on the blades must be considerable.
Wow , creasy ,that Pilot ! Never see that akro befor !
Фантастика!
Wahnsinn, super stark.😁😁😁😁😁
Your work is fantastic, you have likes ،👍
This I believe is called, having fun :)
Шедеврально!! 😊
This also reminds me of the old adage, "There are bold pilots, there are old pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots."
Keep it safe my friend!!
Don't make your gyro another statistic in the books.
It's a good thing Barry never let that old, annoying adage hold him back. Because if he did, we still wouldn't know what a gyro is capable of. Also, this video wouldn't exist and you wouldn't have been able to share your words of wisdom with us.
MAtto matto matto ! ma un gran pilota!
MR GYRO !!! Himself !!
Muhtesem..guzel yetenek..🇹🇷
What's his name and does anyone know if he's going to be at the 2023 Bensen Days in Wachula Florida?
That stuff is insane..
Fiquei procurando pra ver se este Girocóptero possui passo coletivo no rotor, mas pelo jeito não. O que este Piloto faz é Incrível!
100 juízo!!!!
What is the main rotor made of? How have you not ripped the wings off this bird?
The Bob Hoover of Gyrocopters.
There are old pilots and there are bold pilots. There are no old bold pilots.
impressive but one day he will make a big impression i am afraid .....
So I think this guy's showing us that helicopters are for wimps that can't fly gyrocopters?? That pilot is gutsy!!
You made me laugh. Thanks.
impressive but also mad
Bless the Rotor System Engineers
This man has a lot of confidence in his machine...... let's just hope he knows his, and it's, limits.......
I am sure the tall tail adds to the stability, but gosh the blades must be taking some kind of stresses. Not many do overs if there is a failure.
I worry about the stress limits of the rotor head blades and other aluminum components particularly all aluminum parts have a maximum cycle stretch limit lifetime. Stressing of even the best aluminum alloys will eventually end in fractureing.
Most gyrocopter rotor systems are approved for 4 positive and 2 negative Gs.
What would b the price on this particular model, it seems like it is well built to handle the stress
I want to do this.
That does it for me - no way I’m taking a demonstration flight!
Спасибо порадовал!
Is that a commercially produced gyro or a home built?
It’s a highly modified Dominator that was probably built from a kit.
Definitely not a commercially produced gyro.
Glad its a single place machine. I hope he does not suffer to long when he makes a slight mistake.
Reminds me of an old saying that we were told as kids "it's all fun and games until you lose an eye or a limb".. Don't get me wrong it's really awesome to have the skills to do this but it is a gyrocopter. High above the ground. Of which means sure death if anything at all goes wrong. I see this as no different than those who play Russian roulette. Except this is like doing it with half the chamber loaded....
