Nicht schlecht. Schön zu sehen, dass sich mal jemand um eine TUONO anstatt um eine RS kümmert. Viel zu underrated das Bike. Sowohl die Neue als auch die alte.
Hi greetings from the Republic of San Marino. I have one as this which was gifted to me, I'm so lucky. can't wait to start the restoration. It has 40000km all original, sat under a cover for 6 years.
I had this exact model with a 150cc head, bore, Arrow exhaust larger injector in carb and larger rear sprocket. Out of all my bikes 125cc and up to 1000cc this was my absolute favorite bike. It shocked people how such a small engine could be so fast. I'm kicking my self for selling it all those years ago. Two stroke is King. I'm so jealous of you. Lol Really nice rebuild mate.
Thanks for the video. On my Rotax 122 there was a 0.2mm washer between the left crankshaft bearing and the engine block. I'm not sure yours have one. But if you leave it out you can't feel the lateral play because the bearings are new, however after a few miles that play might come back as the bearings and crankshaft start to adapt. You might want to check that out on your next rebuilt, you don't want any lateral play (or max 0.1 mm) of your crankshaft
Hi there. Great to see someone working on an aprilia rs 125 2stroke. Excellent. I'm working on mine at present so I'm sure I'll be contacting you in the near future. 👌👍
400 is a very good price for a Tuono even it wasn't in the best of conditions. For the same conditions I don't think you can go lower than 1000, 1200 euros for an RS, particularly here in Italy as it is still one of the favourite bikes, also for collectors. Today things are much more expensive. I bought one RS 125 year 2002 with engine just rebuilt for 750 euros about 12 years ago, and I was stupid enough to sell it for 1000, even though I had run over 60.000 km on it, but I always kept it in mind conditions (it had a few minor scratches but that was it). I've just bought a 2007 model for 1800 euros, which might seem like a lot, but it comes with Jolly Moto 107 exhaust, VHSB 34, Gubellini rear shock absorber fully adjustable and some other extra things like aftermarket rear view mirrors, indicators and so on, plus all the original stuff (except the PHBH 28). I might make some videos. I haven't touched it yet, I might start doing something on Sunday. It hasn't been used in 2 years so I'll start with carb cleaning and other basic inspections and see if by replacing the battery fluid the charge is acceptable, otherwise I'll have to buy a new battery, and I'll probably go for those extra light ones, every kilo you gain on this bike is worth it. I find your channel useful even though I've rebuilt this engine at least 4 times already and at least 30 other two stroke engines, it helps me remind me of a few details and you use some interesting home-made techniques. A useful tool for these engine is a torque wrench, particularly for the cilinder.
man i reaaaly aapreciate content i know probably somebody mentioned it but when i see somebody smashing steel bearing in aluminum casting with a rubber mallet it makes me reconsider buying these bikes second handed, guys smarter than me use heat and cold to seat them
Another small detail, you might want to check the squish gap. It should be around 1.5 mm stock. Every time you rebuild an engine that might change because of the new gaskets. There's usually three sets of gaskets, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.8 mm. YOu should select the one that gives you the closest squish gap to 1.5 (unless you want a higher compression ratio, but that's at your own risk, it you're not experienced). If your squish gap is 1.8 you'll lose compression ratio, a bit of power and you might have a slightly higher fuel consumption. In any case, a higher squish gap is safer than a lower one, even though these engines in 'racing mode' go as low as 0.7mm. However, for road use and reliability I wouldn't go below 1.2/1.3 as you might incur in the risk of knock.
I have never heard of an RS 125 tuono version until now, I only thought they made the fully faired bike, great video, love the acsent and you just earned a subscriber

Honestly, nice work. Really good job. I don't have the skills or tools, but assuming you have them, rebuilding 2 stroke machines - I won't say easy, that is too cheap a way of saying it, but more like, its within reach to take a lot of interesting machines and rebuild them. And have a lot of fun in doing it! Thanks for the video!
Thank you! To own the tools is 20% of the job. To be honest to get the knowledge took many years and rebuilding many many things twice or three times. Just start somewhere :-)
I had an RSV 1000 Mille and the price on the parts was just insane. I did change the whole starter clutch on it and there was a one way bearing from a BMW that did fit if you modded it to turn the opposite way, it did cost like 1/3 or 1/4 of the price compared to the OEM part.
That's why I didn't buy anything from aprilia. After market parts mostly have the same quality and cost 1/3. I rode a rsv 1000 once and gave it back. It is so damnnn powerful 😄 too much for me!
Congratulations, great work and beautiful bike :) I have the same Tuono 125. The bike should have also white crash pads mounted on each side. The silver colored weights on the handlebar are not original - they should be black.

What are your thoughts on the quality of this bike? Does it needs a lot of maintenance for it to keep working properly? Like, does it wear down fast, and is it unreliable?
It is a fast and fun bike but it definitely needs some love. These two strokes with much hp wear quite fast, I think aprilia recommends piston change every 5.000 Kilometer for example. If you just want to ride and don't work on it get a slow and boring four stroke. If you want to learn and have fun get a aprilia.
Just one question, that looks like the original exhaust but 'open' (without catalytic converter). Has it been opened and welded back, does it have a DMG or is it an aftermarket identical to the original (I think Mivv used to make one like the original for full power). Last question, does the Tuono have a phbh 28 like the RS or a 26 like the Aprilia Classic. What's your final gear ratio, 17/40?
None really if you want reliable it has to be a 4t my most reliable bike so far iv still got Yamaha ybr custom 150cc never let me down but my rs125 let me down all the time
@@defrkingadame3995 Well I´ve got myself a RS125 06 and I must say it is reliable, only if you maintain it and know how to properly ride a 2 stroke. I´ve ridden more than 30 thousand kilometers on it in 3 years and the only thing I had to replace was the cylinder after 27k km and ofc the spark plugs and liquids... yet the bike has past 50 thousands on dash still running smoothly, every bike can be reliable if you know how to ride it properly
its easier to work on, doesnt brake due to electronic failure. these flimsy 4 stroke injection bikes; especially 125cc; break down quite often. the rotax 122 engine is build to be rebuild. thats all. you wont even dare to open any other 4 stroke engine because u gonna feel like a mechanic; opening a car engine.

Rs125 2t not the Strongest
So which one is?
@@defrkingadame3995 it was built to be fast not to last
its easier to work on, doesnt brake due to electronic failure. these flimsy 4 stroke injection bikes; especially 125cc; break down quite often.
the rotax 122 engine is build to be rebuild. thats all. you wont even dare to open any other 4 stroke engine because u gonna feel like a mechanic; opening a car engine.
How can I contact u in private mate ?
