  • Recently I was able to add this Wheeler & Wilson No. 3 sewing machine 🧵 to my herd. It belonged to a friend’s Mom who has the same love 💗 for these old sewing machines as I do. This No. 3 is just a 🤩 gorgeous crazy 😜 old lady!!! She sews sideways, has a curved needle, glass feet, extra bobbins & is a real work of art. 😎Can’t wait to get more familiar with her, Lets take a look 👀!!!

Beautiful and pre decal era, every flower and scroll was hand painted.

I'm sure if you googled a search, someone could make you a plexiglass 'glass' foot, with out too much trouble. then you could use the new one and preserve the old one. Oh and I love your museum era machine.

Hi there! Thanks for watching & commenting. 😁 I’ve 3D printed feet for my Wheeler & Wilson No. 8, but will need to revise the .stl drawing file a bit for the offset hole and any other adjustments for the No. 3. Maybe one day when time allows.

Horse shoe ? key ? nail would also work on some of my machine cabinet locks. Our family business was blacksmith from 1890 and we ended up welding and fabrication and the business let out family recently. The town in the UK at one point had 30 cotton mills and various other factories that did sewing clothes and footwear. I started helping out when I was 10y and that was back in the early 1970s

I did see on YT a lady was using 3D printing for feet feet for WW just not transparent. One day I will make a Perspex replacement for my WW machines.
It was YOU - HA HA I just looked in my bookmarks for the Lady and the 3D printing ;-))

In the UK a very old Singer service engineer said he bent his own needle for his machine. Some will snap some with bend. If I was bending a needle I would make a jig out of metal to hold the needle and wood, the wood having a cup shape and a block of wood and use a vice to apply the pressure. I would practice with cheap standard needles.
I recently bought a Singer 13k and do not have any 13x1 needles but found an industrial round shaft that is 1.61mm diameter it just clears the hole in the needle plate.
The 13k sews quite well and only took and hour to get it working it was born quite some time ago 1882
I also have a WW8 and WW9 both UK versions with a nice carrying case and compact hand wheel compared to some of the USA versions that have an awkward looking had wheel..

Thanks for insights, I always like to hear how cleverly people improvise parts and accessories for older sewing machines. I refurbished a New Home treadle years ago that I couldn’t get to sew with its new needle, tried everything with no luck. Until I wiggled the needle down just a smidge and it did the trick, sewed perfectly after that!
I’ve actually saved a post from a Wheeler & Wilson Facebook group where a lady described how she heated and bent needles for her W&W No. 3. Thinking I might try that someday.
I’ve had success with drafting & 3d printing W&W No. 8 feet. I like to use my 3d printed feet to protect what few glass feet I have from possible damage. I haven’t taken the time to draft any feet for my No. 3, one day…😔. I have this adult day job that tends to get in the way of playing with my sewing machines. 😄
      Enjoy your Singer 13k!!! 😎
