@@MarinaSkua that's great, I am not fast enough or have enough time to be a test knitter. I will look forward to it being released though. Love your designs , you are so clever.
As always, a lovely episode, thank you Marina. I see you have nearly six and a half thousand subscribers ... well deserved! I'm tempted to use my Swamp DK for a Weod or similar jumper, with fluffy cream for the colourwork, and to do it in the depths of dark winter for the Out of the Dark MAL. Great idea, Annie, to queue up ideas now.
Thanks very much Alex, it's so lovely that you've come along for so much of the ride. I can't wait to see what your Out of the Dark MAL project(s) turn out to be!
Totally agree about the spreading the Christmas woolly season. Thanks for going through your ‘vest’ patterns and the construction of the garments. Enjoyable and insightful. I love a cottagecore hobbit vibe waistcoat! 😊
Hooray! I am so pleased you have a floor loom - it will open up so many fun and useful possibilities. (And yes, I love your making videos, please do keep them coming.)
haha, love you right back, Marina! I am so enjoying my spinning learning curve on your Skua blend. I am training myself on the undyed so that when I spin the Starling dyed braid for OutOfTheDarkMAL I'll be more confident that I won't ruin it. :D It is lovely to see the progression of your Westcountry Collection and hear little snatches of your interactions with other fiber makers and artists in your area. Really excited for when it all comes together!
Ohhh, the Mystery Boxes sound very exciting ❤ This was such a good episode Marina, really enjoyed it! Your new design is beautiful - I love the tubular bind off ;)
Love love the cardigan you’re knitting 🥰 I’m not one for cardigan knitting but this makes me want to make one ❤ That make along sounds lovely, I have fibre from you, 4 braids, I think I’ll save them for that, and practice my spinning until then! 😊
I'm now pretending the loom is an inconvenient piece of furniture until I've get through all of my knitting deadlines. Weaving on it will be my Christmas present to myself!
Ooooh, it was just under 200g of DK weight yarn but I'm not 100% sure of the meterage on that one. I think it was 250 metres per 100g, which would bring it to just under 500 metres.
I've played around a lot with natural dyes in the past, and still have a nice stash of plant-dyed fibres, but don't currently have any plans to use them regularly or in any commercial way. The increased water and energy usage for less reliable and colourfast results doesn't weigh up for me at the moment.
can I make for once a negative comment : I don't like the way you say that knitting stranded colourwork on a purlside is 'hororable'. you may not like it at all but it is not hororable, as is mosstitch is not hororable, as spinning on a spindle is not horarable. there are many aspects of knitting that some people adore and some people hate. knitting colourwork flat has the big advantage that you can rip it out, you have a better view of how the garment is going to look like. as a lot of things, there are pro and contra. I do believe that it is a skill you are sure able to learn, if you would want it. I am sure that if you put your mind to it, and you knit your deep field-vest flat, it would be a skill that you have under your belt, and you may even like it. I am of over 65 years and I have learned it recently and it went from causing me crambs to almost as easy as in knitting colourwork in the round. so, don't be so negative about it. and by the way, all the hundreds of things you talked about in your podcast, they make my heart sing, it was just this one sentence that upsetted me (maybe because I am so proud that I learned that skill just last winter) greetings from belgium
Good Lord, that is Marina’s opinion! I’m quite sure she’s aware that she’s speaking for herself. You can’t get so easily upset in life - grief, how do you get through a day?
I don't remember using the word 'honourable' - perhaps horrible? Because that does sum up my feelings about knitting flat stranded colourwork. And I'm generally fairly clear about the fact that I'm expressing opinions, and don't expect everyone to agree with me. I love that there's a massive range of knitters and crafters with preferences for different yarns and techniques, and would find things rather dull if we all made the same things in the same ways using the same materials. However, I'm sticking to my guns, and am not going to invest my scarce and precious time forcing myself to use a technique that brings me misery, when our crafts should bring us joy. You, and all the other flat-stranded-knitting lovers can enjoy it for me and I'll think the better of you for it.
Always such a pleasure when you pop up on my feed. I'm now off to check out the making video, you're right it didn't come up at all. Happy creating 💚🧶💚
Wow I can’t wait to see that gorgeous cardigan with pockets finished! It’s so very lovely! The surprise boxes sound so fun too!
Thanks - am so pleased with the cardigan and hoping it sails through tech editing so I can get it out to testers ASAP!
Loved all the patterns and updates. You're a new to me designer, so I was happy to see all the lovely colors and makery things.
Lovely podcast Marina, your new cardigan pattern is looking lovely, can’t wait to see it finished. 😊
I've finished it now and am really pleased - the test knit will be opening pretty soon!

What a lovely video to watch. Beautiful projects ❤
Oh, I’m absolutely LOVELOVELOVE your new cardigan 😍✨🌟
Thank you! I really love how the cables have turned out.
What a treat to find your channel. Love your ethos and I agree so much with it. More please!
Thank you and welcome! I've got loads of past videos while you're waiting for more :)

Really glad you enjoyed it - we should be enjoying our comfy knits for as long as the weather allows!
looks like you have a countermarche loom. I look forward to seeing what you finally weave on it. T
Hang in there, we'll get to it! I'm so looking forward to it.
Hooray! I am so pleased you have a floor loom - it will open up so many fun and useful possibilities. (And yes, I love your making videos, please do keep them coming.)
Thanks Bekah; here's to a slow-down on the deadliney projects in the winter so I can get back to some personal projects and a bit of experimenting!
Thanks so much for the Fiber Shed idea. I'll be using it to find places when I travel, too. :)
This is so great to hear - it's a fantastic movement and it's really encouraging to see it gaining momentum.

Your spinning is already looking so good; I'm really impressed! I'm genuinely so happy you're enjoying it.
@@MarinaSkua 💛 Skua blend is so lovely, can't wait to see how it goes when I ply it. 💛
I Love your channel and have just recently happened upon it. Really enjoying Catching up with your back catalogue ❤️
Thanks very much; lovely to have you here!
Ohhh, the Mystery Boxes sound very exciting ❤ This was such a good episode Marina, really enjoyed it! Your new design is beautiful - I love the tubular bind off ;)
The tubular bind-off ended up being a lot speedier and less arduous than expected! I'm so glad you enjoyed the episode.
I love your designs and their often scientific names. I guess we share a niche-y design aesthetic!
Thank you. Sometimes design names are easy and sometimes they take far too long!

Oooh that's very exciting! I'll really look forward to seeing your spinning in the Make-Along.
What a lovely loom, and what a struggle to not immediately jump into a weaving project. I would be sooooo tempted :)

Lovely...
Hi Marina can you tell me how much meterage of yarn is used in your shorter scrumper waistcoat please? I have looked but can’t find it , thankyou
Ooooh, it was just under 200g of DK weight yarn but I'm not 100% sure of the meterage on that one. I think it was 250 metres per 100g, which would bring it to just under 500 metres.
Looking forward to you moving to natural dyeing. It would fit better with your ethos.
