Gorgeous licks dude! Loved the sound of the epi and the trans ebony. Cherry looks so sick tho...
Like the look of the blue one and they all sounded good. The Epi held it's own, right pickup in the right guitar at any price point and it's instant gratification.
Cool demo Rich! I agree with the other comments… Your Epi sounds just as good as the Gibsons. They all sound great!
Beautiful playing, Rich!
Like all of them but your epiphone sounds immense and wins IMO!🙂
I ditto that.
One thing I try to keep in mind in these types of videos is that dude's Epi has been dialed in and properly set up. Any player worth his salt knows that Gibson makes a great axe but does not properly set them up or adjust the pups for anything other than QC.
I DID Get ONE 1 yr ago same Epi 339 Pro in Sunburst from SW. The Epi P90 Pro is YOURS ! Well done Thanks Rich !
My band mate has a blue one they are sweet players …love the size . I sold my Sheraton II cause it just felt too big. I ordered a Harley Benton Aeolus that is about this size. Nice playing bro!
I'm a little late to this video, but wow, I really got swept up in your playing Rich, so much so, I forgot to compare the guitars! Awesome playing, love your style, I'm going to have to watch this one a few times 🙂
Thanks man!
I agree with you Rich. 1 is the blue ES339, sounds open, nice attack, but stays warm too, than comes the black one , than the Epi and at last the ( brown-orange) ES339 which sounds darker, misses clarity.
The ebony sounded great. Really they all did. Love the look of the cherry. But p90s are so dang cool. I cant choose.
Nice tasty playing. I had one from 2009 I think but didn't bond with it. I kept looking at the white in the pickguard and compared it to the binding. The contrast was so dramatic. I swear they have shitty lights at Gibson because the binding is more of an orange cream rather than a vanilla cream. I hope they fixed the binding.
I’ve got the same epi, and love the pickups. I’ve got a Gibson LP Special p90 and the pickups are a little bit brighter but honestly nobody but me can tell a difference but me when I’m playing
I got one of those and it’s an absolute keeper. I changes the tuning machines for some Kulson locks…and it never loses it’s tune.
I liked the Ebony and it sounded great in your hands. But….I also loved the sound of you Epi P-90! We’re you using a Noise Gate with it? Or how did you keep the 60cycle Hum down? I couldn’t hear any at all. Cheers from Salem, Ohio.
I have to say I love the P90 sound if the Epiphone ES 339 Pro but the orange like Gibson was pretty nice. Great video and playing!
Nice, I don’t even have the talent for the Epiphone version, but I have one and love it
Next on my list.. and it will be the Epi with some upgrades. Am thinking to put Gibson mini humbuckers in. Cool comparison vid and great playing, thx Rich!
The Gibson Es-390 has mini-hums
Great tones!
Recently got one of these, I wish I had bought one years ago...for me and my playing a great balance between 335 and Les Paul
I like the red Gibson. Your Epiphone sounded great too.
Have an Epiphone 339 Natural that I bought from Sweetwater. Before I took delivery they did a Plek fret adjustment. I also substituted Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups for the OEM pickups. And I had them install a GraphTech bridge and tailpiece. Total cost for the guitar and mods was about $1499. About $1000 more than the cost of the guitar itself. But it sounds infinitely better than the Gibson that would have cost around $3500. Bottom line: By judiciously investing in upgrades you can get a sound superior to the equivalent Gibson without spending Gibson money.
Yes I really need not only one but two!!!
Loved the blueberry burst, thought the €pi didn’t sound outclassed at all
& months later ,our 339 p90 still takes it!
P-90 pickups over humbuckers, but you make them both sound awesome Ricky......!
I got the 2020 epiphone es 339 inspired by Gibson line and it's unbelievable
imagine if you had a gibson
@@jfar3340 I have 2 actually..2020 LP studio in wine red and 2020 SG standard in Ebony...which is how I'm able to give an accurate comparison of quality and craftsmanship... Gibson makes it as well remember 😁👊🎸
@@ericwarrington6650 yeah gibby >> epi
@@ericwarrington6650 yeah gibby >> epi
@@jfar3340 i can't say the epi is equal to the Gibson but it's absolutely not twice as good as the price difference doesn't reflect the quality difference...epis making great stuff...looked at objectively as a stand alone company they're outstanding. But epis are rarely given that respect...it's immediately compared to the big brother..same exact w squire and fender rn🤘🎶😁
Rich, Just listened to this again. !st, great playing . And the backing track is perfect for this . I have started looking at smaller bodied guitars, The Epi 339 and the D'Angelico DC mini, Wish I lived close to a store that carried both so I could compare the necks. I had an Ibanez Scofeild 100 , it weighted a ton and was to big for comfort. Also have an Ibanez AF-195 , Its on the large size too. So looking at the Epi and the DC mini. I have small hands so the neck profile is a big deal for me. Any thoughts ? Thank you for you time. Jeff
I don't feel like the epi has a fat neck, but I also have pretty big hands and like fat necks, so I might not be any help. You know what guitars have tiny thin necks are those Hunter Hayes signature music man cutlass guitars. My buddy has one, and I played it. Hunter must have tiny hands. I know music man makes some entry level cutlass models. You might want to check those out.
all beautifull.....cheers
I liked the Gibson Blueburst better for some reason... Sounded better to my ears; are its pickups different from the others ? Or maybe just the setup ?... Cheers
I thought they all sounded great but I liked the red one best.
I liked them all, lots. But I am going to stick with my CS-336. 😉
sounds great! Were you playing to backing tracks in the store?
Yes
Beautiful tones and playing! I have to say, and it's strictly personal, I'm a bit turned off by the smaller body, the main appeal of a semihollow to me is the size!
yeah me too. I really dont like 339
Great, I came here because I have three "339s" a sunburst Gibson, a cherry red Epiphone and a natural P90 Pro Epiphone, stayed because of the music and your playing, well done.
Thanks!
Thanks!
those 339s sound great
difficult to compare p90s against humbuckers .Mine is a 2015 p90 pro and is great.
Why didn’t you play the same style music on your Epi that you played on the three Gibsons? I liked them all, but I LOVE that blueberry burst look! See how superficial I am? 😁 Perhaps my imagination, but the blueberry sounded a bit warmer/darker than the others. They are all great guitars. Can’t go wrong with any of them. BTW, the cherry one looks orange. Kinda ugly.
Comparing P90s to humbuckers. This was insightful...
Liked them all but the Blue one pulled me in for its rich and humble sound and it looked the best ....
Same
@@christopherhansford6876 Have the one In Figured Blue top coming my way .... Can't wait .... Have the Es 345 in Cherry Burst bu t it's a bit big for me and was 3799.00 $300.00 more ....
My tip - Look out for an Ibanez AM50 MIJ.
I have one of the Epis- what hardcase does that fit in?
I had to buy one specifically made for it.
p90 are totally different to humbuckers so what are we comparing?
Hi Rich, blue Gibson or the Epiphone for me - in your opinion is it worth the extra for a Gibson over the Epiphone in terms of how well in plays and sounds?
No, the price difference is ridiculous. Your paying for the name on the headstock.
And maybe resale value... that said my epiphine has increased in price since I bought it. But I think mostly because they don't make it anymore.
Thanks Rich for the reply and can’t argue with the logic 👍
personally I think its worth it if you can afford it. I d never buy an epiphone. They have the same shape but thats where it stops. One is made in the USA with prime material and hardware, the other one is mass produced in china.
Blueberry Burst!
Do you have an eastman dealer by you? Check out the t-484
What's up with p90's on semi hollows? It's so much more interesting than humbuckers.
HB for the win.
The Epi P90 wins in most categories. I bought one 3 months ago and love it. I have $4k dollar guitars and the Epi is as fun to play as those guitars. The P90 Pro is the best value guitar I have ever owned.
Update - still loving my P90 Pro and gigging it weekly. My high end guitars rarely get played.
as fun to play but lower in quality
I own an Epiphone ES-339 and a Gibson satin black/yellow ES-339, both same year (2019). I bought the Chinese 339 to see if the style suited me. I love ES-335's but I'm 5'9" and don't need such a massive guitar. While I really like my Epi, it's more of a case of having a semi hollow that I didn't have to worry about scuffing up. The fretboard has been flawless & the electronics have been average, though a little cheap. I like the sound of the Epi enough, but there's no comparison - the Gibson ('57s humbuckers) sounds & feels far better. The Gibson's lighter for sure, but does tend to result in more feedback than the Epi does. Mine's the matte black, non-figured version of the first model played in this vid.
If you get an Epiphone ES-339, upgrade the tuners, the bridge & the nut.
If you get a GIbson ES-339, upgrade the nut.
If you install any tremolo system for either guitar (I have a Les Trem 2 on my Gibson), get a Tusq nut & a String Butler. Without them, you will not get tuning stability. I added a roller bridge as well.
The ES-339 is the perfect size. Large enough for semi hollow sound, you get Les Paul tones, yet you have a super light guitar that still fits in a standard case. The Epiphone is a much better deal, but don't for even a second consider it a replacement for the Gibson. I'm sure any luthier can improve on the ES-339, and Gibson isn't in my short list of "best brands". They're nowhere close to being worth the money (as an investment, they are, but not as an instrument). I got mine on a flash sale for $1900 CDN, brand new from Gibson before Covid hit. Now they're worth close to $3k or even more.
The Epiphone cost me, taxes incl, $650. If you're a masochist, you can put better pickups in your Epiphone, but upgrading pickups on semi-hollows is NO fun.
"If you get an Epiphone ES-339, upgrade the tuners, the bridge & the nut."
Eh? I have an Epi IBG 339 and the bridge is pretty much the ABR you'd find on high-end Gibsons, and the tuners are Grover Rotomatics.
I liked the blue Gibson best out of the Gibsons. The epiphone sounded the same and couldn’t tell the difference
of course, its in a mix through youtrube. Theres a huge difference just between a p90 and humbucker; theres a difference between different humbuckers! So of course theres a huge difference between epi and gibby (gibby being superior obviously) but hard to tell in a mix through youube
"So of course theres a huge difference between epi and gibby (gibby being superior obviously) but hard to tell in a mix through youube"
I love comments like this. If the Gibson is "obviously superior" it would be obviously superior in the YT mix as well, and you wouldn't have to make excuses for it. I'm sure the Gibson is a terrific guitar. Worth $3000 more? Only if you want the logo and nitro finish.
But yeah I'll take the red one.
I have an Epiphone Studio Dot, and honestly it is my most versatile guitar. Can even do Death Metal lol
imagine if you had a gibson
@@jfar3340 nahhh
@@LeftHandedRightHanded gibby >> epi, by far
...and none of them are available on their site. It looks like you are their best salesman!
It's an ES 339, right?
I doubt anyone can tell much difference in a mix or in a band situation.
Right.
and through youtube. But in person, alone, in your bedroom next to your sweet tube amp, maybe with your favorite boutique pedal or expensive attenuator, yeah theres a huge difference in sound and feel. Huge.
p-90 pro!
Sir, you don't feel like you are being weighed down
when you are playing the
guitar.
What amp are you playing through?
Fender Deluxe Reverb
@@RichBischoff Regular, or Tonemaster?
Regular
The 'red" Gibson is orange.
Wo takes a drive to take his guitar back to a store to compare it with more expensive and better guitars?
I do.
@@RichBischoff Apparently. New question: why?
To show that it doesn't matter. My epiphone held its own against guitars 5 times the price.
@@RichBischoff Good, if you think that. To me it sounded like a cheaper guitar with P90s, which cant be compared to Humbuckers. Also i felt your playing was better on your own guitar. But then again, the Epi didnt hold tuning on the B and E and went slightly flat.
I disagree.
Epi's feel is not as polished as the Gibbys. Neck on Gibby is much more finished. P-90's are not as "singing " as Gibby Humbucker's. I've owned both . . . sent the Epi back. Kept the Gibby blue 339.
so i wasted my time so you can bring your Epi P90 to battle, c'mon man!!!
I have one.

Gibson blueberry 👍
Ebony!!
Seems to be a "vintage" orange light filter over the entire video, that makes the colours look a bit washed out ... nice video otherwise
Keep looking for a lefty that I can afford
That's a $3000 guitar... I will just buy a knockoff and invest into some pickups and great amp.
meh. Just get the gibby if you can afford it.
I prefer p90s over humbuckers!
Tbh it's not the guitar,it's the player.
You may have just got epiphone a few orders with your playing.
The Epiphone Pro wins hands down.
agree. Wins the last place.
I could hand you a piece of shit guitar and you would make it sound amazingly good! I like your ES 339 the best!
