The ONLY guitar show I watch anymore. Love to listen to Colin and learn all about stuff. Brilliant!!!
😊🙏
Agreed. Colin's our UA-cam "pub mate."
I’m the Epiphone Sheraton nut that went crazy on your comments when u got that thing. I was super surprised you picked the 335 over the Sheraton, to my ears the Sheraton sounded better on your mic set up. But when I went back and listened again I TOTALLY see why you picked the 335. It fits your playing style better - and I love your playing style. I’m not sure why it works better - it’s a mids EQ thing I think. Your 335 has a bite that cuts thru real nice - the Sheraton has a smoother side - which I prefer for my style.
But…
My favorite guitar on you is most definitely the SG. If you go back and listen to your demos the SG always nudges out the rest - I think it’s because your love of that guitar shines thru in your music. Good Lord, guitars are wonderful. You are the reason I’m currently shopping for an SG. I like the looks of that Caption Kirk Douglas SG with that extra knob on the pick guard. But I don’t like acrylic inlays - they look cheap. For that price point they should have gone with pearl inlays. Sorry for rambling on. Hard not to with your show. It’s awesome. And I thank you for it.
Cheers man… let us know when you bag that SG! 😁👍🔥
25 years playing and I have never played this style of guitar, they just never spoke to me or inspired me as a player. They look and sound wicked maybe I should get out of my comfort zone, thanks mate for making my lunch break interesting, again!
These are one of the last styles I played. Now I can't get enough of them. Playing them loud is key for me.
I am the same. Everyone of this style I bought I wound up selling. They are pretty, but playing wise they never grabbed me.
@@daveduffy2823 Theres just something about an SG that inspires me.
The day I went out my confort zone, was my best move ever as a guitar player.
@@theprisonier
The guitars I thought I'd like the least ended up being the ones I liked the most once I tried them!
You're a swell bloke with great instincts, rockin' chops, and the best waffle on the UA-cams, Mister Colin, and let nobody tell you otherwise.
Thanks for putting in all the effort, and for making our Fridays that little bit better.
Thanks man! 😁👍
Always a good honest review
Always Appreciate your Reviews and made this Interesting with Points of Interest Very clear here mate. I always wanted the DOT to start with but got the Sheraton Pro II & 399 in 2022. Got the Epiphone Riviera P93 with 3 P90s and had Everything Replaced but the Pickups, Gold selector switch & Bigsby instead of the ES 335.Colin you add the way one needs to know very well.
Great review as usual. Got my Sheraton II Pro 3 years ago it's become my goto instrument. It's so versatile, even more so after I added a Stetsbar tremelo system.
Yeah it's heavy but I mostly play seated when playing this guitar although I do gig with it.
Superb value for money.
Another great video! Thank you sir!
Good stuff. My first guitar was a blonde Sheraton from a pawn shop in 1994. Still have it and now I must get it out, tune it up and play. Hope to watch you build the Tele next.
Another great Video, Col ! For best sound I chose the ES335 !
Just found your channel tonight and loving the comparison reviews
Glad you found us! 😁👍
When you yourself are surprised by the comparison outcome; that it an honest comparison!
Well done.👌
Beautiful playing by the way!🎼🎼🎸🎸
Good show, Colin. The comments below are great reading today, I could identify with all on something or everything. Three great guitars, I'd pick the 339 all things considered, figured you liked the 335 most. But I would still be happy with any of them. The beauty and details of the Sheraton might sway some, or the pickups, so to each their own. Cheers from hot, hot Dallas!
Thanks to you Colin I now have the Crestwood and Sheraton Pro! Cheers!
You always seem to know which guitar I'm shopping for next! Greetings from the U.S.✌️🎸
I really love my ES339 pro with the push pull coil-splitting pots. One of the most versatile guitars I own. I also love the ES 125 George Thorogood model. It’s tone is very different but very nice.
All information I need is here! thanks a lot sir.
Love his reviews
Acousticly the Sheraton sounded amazing but amped the 335 sang, it was warmer. The 339 wasn't in the same ball park.
I have a tobacco sunburst '77 Gibson 335 with the coil tap switch on the lower horn.
It's an incredible guitar, so versatile. I just love her.
Great honest review again. Loved it.
Great thorough video as always! I have the Epiphone Joe Bonamassa ES-335 in red and really like it. I might play it as much as my Gibsons. Glad to see the ES-335 was your favorite too…makes me wanna take mine out and play it now haha.
I love that I can watch your films, even if it’s for a guitar or guitars that I’m not particularly interested in, and still really enjoy the whole thing.
Thanks that’s appreciated! 😁👍
I've got the Epi Sheraton Pro 2, but I quite fancy the 339. I like the idea of the 335 design with the smaller body and the tone appeals to me. The 15 minute kit guitar build is a great idea. Very interested to see how that turns out. Great video Col. Thanks very much
Thanks Colin, look forward to your videos, love your tones, think I may have to get a 339
I always enjoy your show
As I said before, love the semi hollow content. Probably the first channel to do these 3 guitars. For me either the 335 or the Sheraton. Larger body size is just easier for Me to play, probably because I started on acoustic. Love my '97 Epiphone dot that I bought new in '97.
Really looking forward to seeing you build a guitar, I've definitely had the thought pass through my head so I look forward to watching your series! Also just picked up a 339 after watching your initial review of it last month, I really wanted to check it out after watching and a month later of humming and hawing I picked one up!
Yup ! The ES-339 has that 'X' Factor for me too ! especially through a "Tweedy Blues Junior" ... Enjoy ! 🤠...
Cheers man, that build series is nearly finished now over at theguitaristas.vhx.tv
Thanks for another HEFTY EPIsode, Col!
😆👍
Brilliant as always and I know others have reviewed the Harley Benton, Brian May inspired BM-75 but I would love to see you review it and if applicable upgrade.
Good comparison sir! I would always pick the 335 and not just because I own one and love it But because if I got any of the other guitars, I would still be jonesin' for the 335! The Inspired by Gibson 335s are just incredible guitars for the money!
HELLO AGAIN, I CAN SAY HONESTLY YOU ARE SPOT ON!! WITH YOUR REVEW OF THE SHERTON 11 PRO. THIS IS THE ONLY GUITAR I CAN GLIDE ACROSS THE FRET BOARD COMFORTABLEY. I PURCHACED AT A LOCAL GUITAR CENTER. I SAW IT,TOOK IT OFF THE RACK,PURCHACED IT,THE REST IS HISTORY. GREAT JOB, WELL DONE, THANK YOU
Amazing playing mate keep it up!
Cheers man that's appreciated! 😊🙏
@@theguitaristas I'm actually looking into a 90s squire strat, if you get lucky enough you should try one the necks are amazing
Thanks for the vid, matey.
Had a Sheraton many years ago. What I remember most is how bloody heavy it was and, playing standing up, takes a real toll. Casino for me, thanks.
Nice comparison, I wasn't aware the neck profiles were so similar. I also didn't know that the center block in the 335 was smaller than the other two, that's very interesting. Seems like all three are very capable gigging guitars, the Probuckers are quite impressive too.
I've used a 2000s Epiphone Sheraton II for around 7 years now. It's a pretty versatile guitar, especially when equipped with decent electronics. I got it for $500 used, already had Gibson '57 Classic pickups installed (I did not know this when I bought it), and it absolutely sings. Sheratons have a distinct jangle/chime to them that charmed me early on, and it makes them really unique when compared to other semi-hollow guitars. It's also probably my favourite guitar to play clean, and really sparkles with my AC15, loves overdrive too. It's one of my 'never sell' guitars.
Great video as always Colin, the ebony Sheraton for me is the best looking. However the ES335 vintage sunburst looks so classy, purely on its classic looks. As for how they sound I’d be happy with both. Looking forward the Tele build! ✌️Have a great weekend mate. 🤘
Cheers Carlos and you mate!
Very nice playing, cheers my friend. Anyone else hear early Blackmore in there?
Wow thanks that’s some compliment! 😁👍👍
Two thumbs up on this one. The first thumb for the playout, which was fantastic. The second for validating my decision to buy my 335, and more importantly not to buy a 339, which I had been eyeing, but don't need, and can't afford.
Great video
Liked and Subscribed. Hell YESSSSSSS
Great comparison video. For looks i go for the Sheridan but soundwise the ES335 sounded best. More bite and sweater sound. So i pick the ES335 😊
Loving that new guitar! Been dreaming about building my own but been too chicken! The only guitar show you'll ever need is right here!!!
Love your channel. Okeechobee, Florida
Would really like to see more on the comparison with Greco, Tokai, Burny, Aria Pro ii, Gibson and Epiphone models of Les Pauls and other models. Cheers!
Just picked up a nos 2004 Epiphone Alleykat N.Y. mini & '57 classic. Great sounding guitar, know for the mini but the '57 stays with it both together and on it's own. Oh man! that grey 339 is calling my name! Cheers!
A great idea.
So true the 335 style has some very worthy minor variations
The Gretsch G5622 Electromatic center block should absolutely be a serious consideration
Awesome to see that you can still bring the heat when I am not here, Colin :)
Please Strum Me Up A Bourbon too!
Very interesting that you found the 335 to be the pick of the guitars - I would have bet a pie and mash on the Sheraton coming out as top dog. Don't worry about looking funny playing the 339... you don't! And it is Pelham Blue!
Loved the video.. i have a 335 (red) and its a great guitar. I will say playing those kinds of guitars are fine standing up but sitting down with them becomes uncomfortable for me after about 20 minutes. I really what to see more of that strummer build. I've been thinking of doing something similar lately. Damn now im waffling.. cheers
Sheraton for me! Altho I might switch the scratch-plate or just lose it altogether. Like most Epiphones I have a feeling I might switch out the pick-ups . . . thanks, as always, Colin - fun Friday evening!
I thought the Sheraton sounded best but the neck feel is the most important attribute. Not surprised you picked the 335. Great video!
I'm sure you can't help it but please don't stop waffling!!! I love it and I know many others do to!!! Thank you for being you and giving us something very enjoyable, very entertaining, and a place to learn about a lot of things we might already know and a bunch we might not know! Thanks a ton!!!
😁🙏
Thank you for this video comparison...I'm looking at the 339 because of the smaller body . I also think it sounded brighter...I'm 5'2 so I think it would be more comfortable.
Hey col - great channel been watching for over a year …. Never stop waffling 😅 one question - would love to see you review / tear down an epiphone slash …..
Cheers man, yes about time I got one really... 🤔😁👍
Got my 335 Pro for £330 new 3 years ago! Awesome, clear alnico pro pickups. It's been my main gig guitar until this week when I bought a Gretsch g2622 which is gobsmackingly good!
The Sheraton is a stunning Guitar. The 339 is a superb color. I don't know Colin. I would say their all pretty cool, with the Sheraton picking them to the post on looks. Won't the Guitar sound better with that floral Headstock? I own a couple of Epiphone hollow bodies, they were me Dads and he was right handed. Ones a Casino and the others a Sheraton, early ones. There's nothing on show here you would say no to. The only Headache being which one to choose. Thanks mate, you make Fridays worth waiting for 🙏
Love the Epiphone guitars never would i buy a Gibson now..
Interesting comparison. I liked the 335 best as well.
Your going to get in trouble with Alvin 😜the bluest of blues , the Sheraton was my fave ❤️it great content
Looking good these type of guitars. Think I like the sunburst one the best. Don’t think I will ever buy one of these again since I sold what I had. Can’t remember seeing a 339 ever in stores. Never played one.
Enjoyed the review.
Have a great weekend Colin
Cheers man and you! 😁👍
Be good if you could review the noel gallagher epiphone riviera..see its worth the extra money .. another top comparison video.. thoroughly enjoyed it and format and longer videos.. good job !!
I'd have thought you'd go with the Sheraton, but agree the 339 sounded nicer, perhaps it resonates more in sync with the Alnico pickups than the Sheraton does with it's buckers.
Have yet to get a semi hollow guitar, for me it would have to be the 339 complete with P90s, if such a thing exists that is.
Another cracking video with loads of waffle, perfect 👍
Another great video Colin, I have an Epiphone ES 335 Pro which I picked up in the sales for £279 a few years ago, from what I can tell it's very similar to the sunburst Epi 335 you have, just with coil splits and block inlays in the neck - great guitar. Just curious do you generally set your pickups high or low? I find this can make a huge difference to the sound/tone.
Mighty nice pickin' my friend. It sound good.👍
Cheers man! 😁👍
Absolutely brilliant Colin, yet another informative and fun video, I think I need to feed my guitar addiction and tell the Mrs I got an Epiphone sunburst ES335 on a deal 😂, .....keep up the great work in helping me feed my guitar addiction. 🎸
🤣👍 I am happy to take the blame!
Just bought a couple of the new Sheratons with mini humbuckers. Think you should review them. Great videos my friend
On my wish list! 😁👍
Hi Col! Its gotta be the Sheraton for me. Why would i want a copy when i can have an Epiphone original, Plus it sounds sweet, love your channel mate you always make me laugh, never miss it .
Got a 339 and Just lovin' it ! And plan to have Ep 335 and also a Sheraron II Pro...
Thanks for the comparison. Note: when you strummed them acoustically, you picked the two full size guitars in approximately the same spot in front of the bridge pickup...when you strummed the 339, you didn't adjust for the body size and ended up picking just behind the front pickup. Picking position dramatically affects tone.
Excelente video. Gracias por la reflexión
339 reminds me of my Epi wildcat I have. Same size but packs a nice clear punch! Sold my first Sheraton years ago, missed it and then got a great deal on a Pro2 for $325US from a guy in LA in near mint condition! Haven’t put it down since. Thanks for your reviews and I believe I’m going to start your tv channel trial. I love doing parts casters from scratch, nothing more satisfying then saying I made it. Have a Epi Dot and Washburn HB 30 that round out my 335 like guitar. Play great, each with its own special sound. Thanks mate, Cheers and until next time.
Cheers Stu! 😎👍
You seemed to be favoring the Sheraton over the 335 in the Sheraton review. I think you said you thought the 335 would be better with different pickups. Now comparing them back to back it looks like you have had a change in heart. They both sound good to me.
The 339 isn't a small guitar compared to solid bodies like Les Pauls and SGs (actually it's a touch bigger), but I suppose it does look it when in direct contrast to a 335. I suppose one just expects a semi-hollow guitar to be bigger.
I haven't got a 335, but I've read the 339 is a blend between the classic sound of its bigger brother and a more focused tone of an SG or LP. Though the 339 does seem to lose some of that lovely 335 raspiness.
I'm honest about the importance of appearance to say I think the colour options on the 335 are rather limited. Wish they did one in natural.
Sir the bluest blues with the es335 was pleasantly to hear
You played it really good 😊
Cheers man! 😁🙏
I liked my redid 335 style guitar so much I picked up a 1994 Washburn hb35. It’s in good shape other than a fret crowning I’m working on now.
I had a 335 back in 1974. I loved it for recording, and I got a variety of sounds of a very wide range. But I hated it for performing because it was squealed with Feedback when I was performing obviously rather loud. I told everybody I was gonna fill it with polyurethane if I was going to keep it. I ended up trading it for the 1957 Rickenbacker 4000 bass that I still play today. I’ve never been disappointed with my Ricky. You’ve inspired me to consider getting a semi hollow body again if I was to get the Sheraton, which sounds great unplugged and with more solid fill inside, hopefully it doesn’t squeal with feedback when you don’t want it on stage. I will research this further. Thank you for your video.
Cheers Richard 😎👍👍
What a awesome video have a good weekend also stay safe
Thanks Amin! 😁👍
Loved the video this week. I know you prefer the 335, but it seemed your soloing was more inspired on the Sheraton? If that' makes sense. Anyhow I loved the first series of sound tests and had to write down the loop and study the solo's. It wasn't boring to me! LOL
Cheers man! 😁👍
Funnily enough I love the alnico classics too - I bought the white Epi SG standard and much preferred the sound of them to the probuckers in the '61 I tried. They just sounded less flat and had a bit more sizzle to them while still being a "vintage" voice.
Great episode, thank you. Did you hear what Noel Gallagher said recently about his old 335? It turns out not all 335's are the same ( well the old Gibsons anyway). Some might have been built on a Friday! 🤣 He was on That pedal show. Keep up the great content 🤘🏻
Yes saw that and was suitably inspired! 🙌
Iv got the Sheraton and it’s the best guitar Iv got in my arsenal, does everything! Brilliant guitar 👌
I own a sheraton. It's a great guitar. Pickups are great.
like your videos. I tried a Epi. B.B. King Lucille model. The body just seemed massive to me I reckon I am just to use to my strats and SG.
Great Video Colin, you gotta love the Epi hollow body's for value for money.
Strange watching the video back after you said the 339 looked silly on you, it fucking does😂😂 but you absolutely rock the Sheraton. Beautiful guitar. Great playing as well btw..keep up the great content🔥
Cheers! 😁👍
Looking forward to your Clash with Joe's esquire. Sheraton for me bit fancy but sounded great to my ears .
Thanks for the review! I thought they all sounded good but the 339 spoke to me and I like the smaller size. I'm just learning to play and I'm left handed. Trying to control my guitar addiction is tough, I probably should stop watching this channel!😅 that's not going to happen! Cheers from 🇺🇸
Cheers Gary! 😁👍
I own a 335 and an old 80s Sheraton and the neck profiles are markedly different. If I swap between them during a gig, it takes a few moments to readjust. Especially when you factor in the neck angle which is also pretty different. Both great guitars though.
always amazing..
I prefer the 335. I've had a few Sheratons over the years and I think I like the idea of them more than actually playing them, if that makes sense. Whereas the 335s I've played (including the old Dot) werre always comfortable and easy.
I liked the 339. You rock Colin!
By far best review channel on the old internets. I thoroughly enjoy your channel and I look forward to every episode..
With that said. I see the sheraton pro ii as a far better product.
😊🙏
I’ve had my red Gibson custom shop 339 for 10 years now. I took the guard off and the pup covers, it looks superb.
An awesome Les Paul alternative imho
I took my pickguard off as well. I love the look.
Love the videos but you left out in my opinion one of the best semi hollow bodies out there and that’s the Gretsch 5655T QM speyside sounds great and looks great
Was wondering if you had thought of checking out the new sire Larry Carlton semi hollow with dog ear p90s & seeing if that was anything you might like? Great show always Collin.
Colin,
Thankyou for your wonderful and different take on vlogs...i look forward to the latest vid..keep it up. I really do love the 339... thats next on the 'to get list'....
Your videos have inspired me to play with a solder, and change my electronics within my guitars..
I have noticed a huge tonal difference with different caps in with the stock pups... my als65 gt has now a total different sound with just proper pots and a .44k pio cap. 600v the p90s just SING..!!
However with regard to the differing voltage(?) Rateing on the caps... would they have a affect on the pup readings (k ohms)
If i put a 100v, 200v would it be a hearable difference maybe a orange drop..??200v
(Maybe a idea for a vid..?)
Love the work, keep inspiring...👍👍
Cheers Chris thanks for the support man!… my knowledge of caps and tone don’t go that far but yes there’s a step we can take one day! 😁👍
I have the 2020 Epiphone es 339 inspired by Gibson line in sunburst and I absolutely love it..loose output jack was the only flaw
I agree with you about the 335, it sounds the most dynamic and transparent to me. For looks I'd prefer the Sheraton though.
For looks, the Sheraton is stunning. I’m a Strat & Les Paul guy, but I fancied a semi hollow. I bought an ebony Sheraton 2 (Korean) after much research into 335 style guitars. However I just didn’t bond with it. It’s just not my thing. I tried hard and could have stuck it on a wall just to look at, but I sold it so it would get played by someone who appreciated it. Instruments are meant to played regardless how much you admire them. Had I come across a video like this back then, I’d have been torn between a 335 & a Sheraton. I thought the 335 just edged it tone wise to my ears. Great comparison this week. 👍
Cheers Den, I feel like that about guitars as well, sometimes they just deserve to be with someone who will play them. I just need to remind myself of that when I look back sometimes and ask myself why on earth did I sell that one! 🤣👍
I bought an Epiphone 335 (Cherry Red, naturally) and sold it to a student because I never got on with it. I later tried a Sheraton in Holiday Music and really wished I'd got that instead. I think it was the neck difference that gave it the advantage. Never tried a 339. In addition I rarely sell guitars so shows how much I didn't get on with it.
I got the cherry 335 myself and ended up taking it back and getting the black Sheraton for the exact reason you just said..... The neck on it is just so much more comfortable for my wimpy old man hands and I have a hard time putting it down because it's such a joy to play, other than that I could care less about the other upgrades and may swap out the pups for the classics in the future, kinda liked the sound of the 335 just a tad better
Good to know Epiphone 339 is robust inside. I have considered buying one of these for some time. I'm liking the Artist brand which you guys have in the UK but we do not have any Artist brand semi hollow bodies in the USA. I guess they have figured out the exchange rate for those models yet. They seem very nice though and come with a roller bridge and locking tuners even on the hard tail model and an I'm sure a lower cost Bigsby on the trem models for pretty much the same price. They both come either dot necks or crowned and bound for about 100 more USD. Can yo review the Artist semi hollow body?
The Sheraton really is the standout in terms of looks. Would I be right that earlier versions (pre 2022) didn't have those unnecessary coil-splits? If so, worth a search on resale sites. Never really seen the point of a 339, save as an entry point for junior guitarists. Otherwise, keep 'em comin', Colin.
yep thats the axe mt its talking to ya, nice vid mt .
Nice comparison demo, I own and Epi 339 and an Ibanez 335 copy, the size of the 339 is okay but prefer the the upper register reach of the 335. To comment on tone, If the body and acoustic tone made no difference when plugged in then the Les Paul and 335 would sound the same given the same pickups, clearly they do not. Thanks for the comparison.
