i thouht it isnt possible to get planningfor these log cabins unless to attach to existing dwelling, how does one get planning?

Yes it is possible. depends on your local council how strict they are.

How long did all that take from start to finish?

If you watch till the end it will tell you how long the builders were on site, painting and decoration took way longer as we did it ourselves including fitting the kitchen which was 2nd hand. and also fitting out the utility room and the walk in wardrobe, you can see all that in part 4 of the series.
