I'm 37 now. There was one of these in our Pizza Hut, directly next to the iconic "Revolution X" Aerosmith game, Samurai Showdown, and a western game I can't remember what it was called....there was a stampede that would run through and you would have to run on top of the bulls?? Basically, it was an absolutely legendary experience going there. Pizza was just a bonus. Love it
I know this game got an unreleased sequel but I want an official sequel for modern systems kinda like they revived Killer instinct for X Box a few years ago
Man unfortunately it's all wrapped up in Atari's vault :) When Atari went under they had a bunch of games in production and none of them got finished or released, I don't know why they can't do sequels to any of those but whoever owns the licenses doesn't do anything with them at all, might be a legal hiccup or something.
What i read was that the systems all got flashed to factory settings there was a few that had update 3.0 but none has come up most likely yeah either they destroyed it or some employee is waiting another 30 years and sell online to be super rich or something amazed there isnt a hardcore indie devs that want to work on this game this game could have been one of the greatest fighting games to ever live and have its own movie or animated series on "Netflix-joke" if only this could get unreal engine most likely they get sued i guess since 98 hasbro bought the company and since hasbro is more targeted to kids most likely this game will never surface or get a reboot without a price this game could have saved atari.
@@LyonsArcade More likely it's just Warner Bros Interactive sitting on it. You have to consider that these are the guys preventing the computer game "No One Lives Forever" (aka NOLF) and its sequel from being re-released. See, thing is, the rights to NOLF and NOLF 2 are owned by about three or four different companies... and nobody's sure exactly who, other than Warner Bros, is one of them. Someone wanted to re-release the game, so they contacted everyone who *might* own part of the rights. Every single one of them said "Well, we might... but you'll have to pay us up front just to look through our filing cabinets." And then, just to make *doubly* sure, Warner Bros renewed their trademarks so that nobody can re-release the game or write a sequel without paying licensing fees. If they'll do that to a computer game... even one that they have *publicly admitted* that they don't plan to ever re-release or make another sequel to... then you can easily imagine that they might be sitting on Atari's vault.
This game was so much fun, I remember talking to some guys when it first came out an they didn't like dinosaurs biting each other but I thought thats what made the game cool-the fact that it was something different, plus the stop motion animation graphics was something never done before in gaming which gave it a real unique aspect. He is right about the special moves, if you didn't understand it before hand you would never figure it out-luckily the console versions were perfect platforms to practice on.
This game was on free play down at a local arcade with a playcenter on the upper floor. It was placed in the playcenter next to TMNT, but that cost 20p. I played the hell out of this, even if the game in hindsight isn't very good. It's always got a soft spot in my heart.
Also, did you know there's an unreleased Primal Rage 2? Very little is known about it, it's one of the biggest mysteries of gaming when it comes to the arcade side.
Design some more/newer characters perhaps -a humanoid elephant and hairy mammoth like characters -a humanoid rhino like one -a humanoid hippo one -a humanoid bison like one -humanoid wild boar -a grizzly bear, black bear, and polar bear character And maybe a goat, bull, moose, elk, ant-eater ones
Maybe have it be set up where there are many smaller sub monsters that could be offsprings of the main characters and maybe in defeats have the little shAts pop out and eat the dead monster body and maybe those that are wounded be offered virgin sacrifices from their human slaves to rejuvenate them for further fighting It could maybe also be cool if they could set it up maybe kind of like the mortal Kombat games with the character hiarcy and plot lines and maybe even do some movies
Your videos are awesome! How I miss the good ol 80's and 90's : ( The New Generation will never know the excitement (after begging your parents to take you) of walking into a Arcade!
+Rodney Norwood Yeah... it's completely different now, one thing a lot of younger gamers don't realize is that back in the day, the games in the Arcade were far superior to anything you could play at home. It was a lot more social too, you'd meet your friends there or make friends there, or even get into a fight!
+LyonsArcade lol exactly! I think the last social moment after Arcades was when HALO arrived. Everyone would have HALO house parties by linking up consoles, but once they created Xbox Live it even took that away from us : (
I remember coming across a Primal Rage in 2016 at Strong Museum of Play, but the gore was switched off. I was told the game was pretty much bootlegged because this game is impossible to emulate, even through MAME. I also remember the infamous "golden shower" fatality move that Chaos did and how that got removed from the SNES port.
Really the only way to experience the game. At least until there's some way to magically reverse engineer it. The Midway Arcade Treasures 2 version is sadly horribly compromised. This game never did anything for me, but I have a soft spot for the Atari Games Corp era of Atari's arcade division. I feel that's when they're best games and hardware was cranked out.
Actually the PS1 and Saturn ports are pretty identical to this, it was the Sega and SNES ports that were greatly downgraded and made the game seem mediocre. Although the Genesis port and 32X has the "golden shower" lol.
@@califaern3sto Yeah but the Midway Arcade Treasures edition is censored so that alone is a big drop off for me, it has the better graphics but it's incomplete. If we're talking gameplay, then that's debatable. Of course the arcade is the best.
All the artwork except the side control panel artwork. Old video but I needed to comment lol. Also, I agree. Home ports will never touch the original arcade machine. Even MAME. PRs programming code was encrypted. If you play PR in MAME, which is a emulator (duh) you'll notice that the blood is tan sometimes, character sprites are glitchy and some combos are impossible to tangle together. Even gameplay is effected. All because other components that the code in the arcade software talks to is missing so the code acts up. Atari was smart with this game! If you ever get another PR, put that info out there. Might sell faster haha. That's why I bought mine 7 years ago. Great video!
Good game but it's laggy as hell in the controls and that makes it very hard to fight properly hence ST rules the genre. I know that all these types of games Pit Fighter etc but I suppose Mortal Kombat did it best.
I just recently picked up a Primal Rage arcade PCB and am looking to make myself a cabinet for it. Any words of advice you can give since you worked on it before?
PCB: There’s are 2 versions of the pcb. One labeled Neotec on a sticker, which can only be used with a high impedance Neotec monitor and a newer board with a switch where you can select between low or high impedance monitors. On the older version, you can change a few resistors to make it work with low impedance. Instructions are floating around the internet. Audio Options: Yes, the pcb board has a separate audio board which needs to be powered by harness coming from the main board. You will need to research the different types of audio options available. There’s a JNX adapter that you can purchase if you would like to run the audio through your current jamma connection. 4th button: The player one button is also used as the top weak attack.
Dose anyone have measurements of the cabinet? I have plains of makin one. No luck finding one. Heard rampart or pit fighter is close but I want measurement that are dead on
Debary it's probably just a rom swap. So you'd have to order the roms to switch out on your board.... Steph at www.HobbyRoms.com would probably be able to burn you the roms you'd need. You probably wouldn't have to replace all of them on the board, just a few.
What was the reason for the programmers not allowing a clean emulation for their game? Why are there yellow stuff instead of blood amongst all sorts of other problems?
No, someone tried to port the arcade version, which is what you have in the video, to gamecube and ps2, but due to the copyright protections on possibly both the hardware and software, there are major glitches.
@@pieterwillembotha6719 Actually, you hit the nail on the head. The problem is (or was) the copy protection and security encryption, which made complete emulation possible. Any attempts would usually crash at the character select screen. *However,* there are two prototype cabinets for Primal Rage 2. One of those is available for play at the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, Illinois. Until 2017, nobody had cracked the protection on it either, but someone finally figured it out.
